Great Job on the wheels. Good tip on using EvapoRust and scouring pads to clean the rims and spokes. I plan to use that method to go back and re-clean the spokes on my vintage Schwinns.

Ah the wheels segment. My hands are bleeding as I envision pushing my hamhock thru inside spokes to clean/polish. The pain is worth it Oscar as your wheels look great as always. I noticed whitewalls coming, nice! Like a root beer float! Looking forward to seeing next week episode 5!

Thanks Rich! yep, I know the beating the hands up on the spokes feeling, I started wearing heavy duty work gloves and it definitely helped. The whitewall idea came from seeing a green lady suburban image online and it looked classic, so I went with it, I certainly appreciate you following the series Rich, see you next week👍

Do you ever clean and regrease inside the freewheel?

I have not had to so far with the exception of my 1981 Le Tour, which I replace based on overall condition, however I will be taking that one apart to re-grease and make it turn as it should. 👍👍🔧🔧

I always put a wafer-thin layer of grease between the nipple and rim, good against rust / corrosion. Then I wipe excess grease on the rim with alcohol so that rim tape sticks well. And when I have laced the wheel, and put tension, I use Loctite to secure the nipple to the spoke

Oscar, could you go over in a future video your technique for cleaning where the spokes and nipples meet at the hub? I can clean the faces and the axle just fine, but the dirt and grime just hides out around the spokes at the hub. All of your bikes have this cleaned as if you removed the spokes. What's your secret?

I scrub the area with a toothbrush and paint thinner thoroughly to degrease, then I use simichrome paste with toothbrush to get all the nooks and crannies, then use polishing cloth to get the shine. My current project, I removed the spokes and it was easier to clean, I did 2 at a time to clean the flange on both sides, the I sanded and polished the spokes, they look like new. It was more work but worth it, you will have to tension the spokes and true the wheel. The rear wheel was a mess so I will be replacing the hoop and freewheel. My first build wheel, I got all the spokes polished and look new , I will be lacing the wheel today and hope to get the video done in a few days. Looks 1981 Le Tour Part II
