Thank for the tip about travelling loop, very useful to hear about this. Really enjoying your podcasts and the pattern reflections. Thanks very much

Thanks. I did more research on travelling loop and while good they always start with an empty needle, which for me creates a tension change. My method reloads the needle with around five already completed stitches, so when you start knitting again you are technically already in a row of knitting (stitch #6 in instead of #1 in) and there is no gap between the end of the last round and the start of the new round, so tension remains consistent. The beginning of round marker moves around a bit but you still know where it is. 👍🏻

Absolutely love your podcast. Keep doing your pattern reviews, and as a New Zealander, I love hearing about the local yarns you use. Some companies I've never heard of, so thank you. Stephen, your knitting is amazing! I totally made it to the end. Your podcast isn't too long ( could be longer). Some others are over 1 hour!

I think the knitters I enjoy watching the most always teach me something. They tend to go into a lot of detail on how the modifications they make improve the fit or wearability of their garments. For example, Suzanne Bryan, , Roxanne Richardson, Eva of the Charm of it, Mel makes stuff, Stitched in Sweden, Little Big Knits, Heartland Knits and sews and Knitting the Stash. I think they put quite a lot of time into planning what they want to cover about each item. I enjoy being able to see the knits quite close up. Currently, I’m having difficulty seeing much detail on your knitting. I think people do it most successfully by sitting near to their camera or by bringing each item close to the camera. It seems to take a lot of skill to move the garment slowly enough that it can be seen. I’m sure it will be a journey for you to find a way to improve with each episode. Good luck.

😊I'm sailing in Croatia and cycling on the islands near Split. Today I begged off 'group' activities to have a little me time, knit and catch up with a couple of podcasts. Thanks for having a new one for me to watch while I hide in my cabin and knit 😅 I knit like crazy to finish my Ranunculus before leaving NZ a few weeks ago. It's going to have to wait until England, I think, before it's cool enough to wear it. I made it with Orb fine and isager alpaca acquired from Get Flocked in July while on a SI road trip.

I cant’s believe that you state you are an inexperienced knitter, Stephen!! I haven’t been able to do cables, let alone seed stitch!!, then I saw you tackled a very intense colorwork sweater also!! That is an advanced knitter to me!! I am US and have just found you both, I hope your Beinbeck experience is a good one and that it doesn’t rain on you. Your travel plans sound amazing. @MakerMark just came back from UK and Edinburgh and appeared to have a wonderful time. He went to John Arbon mills also and spent 3 hours picking out colors for a sweater that he already thought about the colors prior! Can you imagine the overwhelm ? I hope Reinbeck is a similar experience for you both. I did subscribe so I can watch more of you, However, I am going back to the beginning to hear your story.

Hi Guys, I did make all the way to the end! And I really did enjoy it unbelievable Stephen that you consider yourself intermediate😅 but I understand you’re looking out and beyond you. I appreciate Bebe your explaining that your sweater as a good beginners lace. Having done the LoveNote myself I could see at some point doing that one. Anyway ..I love what you two are doing I think it’s really great and you’re going to take it travelling as well. 🎉

Stephen, all your jerseys are amazing. I have just finished an all over cable jersey for my partner and I winged most of it because I wanted to get rid of the 80s big shoulder. It worked too and looks amazing so I can really appreciate the work you put in to your garments. That sweater is definitely not too big and I like a folded cuff on a chunky jersey. I did once manage to cut off a rib from a bottom up then pick up the stitches and knit down but it was a stocking stitch garment.

Love your jumpers. The deep dives are really great. If you like a panel of lace, I’d recommend the Zweig. It’s one of my favourite jumpers. If you knit it in a dark main colour you can skip the texture pattern in the body.

loving the reviews. I have put off for some reason making a Rannuculs, but in the past few weeks I have been looking through the projects and wanting to give one a go, now I'm sure I do. I think your sweater looks great Stephen. I had an experience with a bottom up Julie Hoover knit in that I wanted the oversize, like the models looked, so I thought I needed to make the size larger than I normally would have. Even as I was knitting I thought, trust the pattern. I should have trust my gut as it ended up far to big, sleeves too wide and down to my fingertips. I tried it on once, put it on the shelf, tried it on the next day to see if it had magically changed, frogged it and waited I think a year and then knit it again in my size. I think my issue is body image and not wanting a knit to be too small. For the record I do still love Julie Hoover designs and I intend to knit more.

100%!! The struggle is real.. So much effort goes into the knitting you just want it to be perfect. I can knit tricky patterns but struggle and stress over staying on gauge literally the whole way - Stephen

Just found you guys yesterday and love your videos, just episode 5 left. I do like the deep dive as most channels brush over the pattern itself, not that details need to be given away but if it was well written things done well in the pattern or not done well, and if one would recommend it and to what skill level. I have wanted to knit a Marie Wallin pattern and the ones you have both chosen are my top two but the reviews of her pattern writing and knitting flat has put me off so far. Looking forward to seeing your progress on these patterns. It would be really nice to hear about your experience of knitting flat colorwork as most channels always just say they are knitting it I the round which doesn’t provide much help. A good review if a Marie wallin pattern would also be interesting as I think for many her knits look quite daunting. Also loving the Alice Starmore obsession, me too, haven’t seen her patterns knit anywhere. Great work guys and I hope you are now enjoying your trip and can’t wait to hear all about it.

Thanks Sarah. I must say, I do not enjoy knitting color work flat at all! When I was learning color work I started with a hat and a cowl then when I was more confident I moved on to Marie Wallin. I recommend starting with one of her patterns that has color work just in the yoke so it’s not too daunting -Bebe

Hi, I was a bit daunted at the start as I had only knit colourwork once before at it was a simple motif and I hardly remember it as it it also had intarsia and i was freaking out about that. The only way to start is by starting so I did. I normally do two handed colourwork but i dont purl continental, so I needed to switch the yarns. Oddly i found tensioning the floats easier as i could see if they were too tight. That golden rule about constantly spacing your stitches on the right hand needle. Anyway you’ll (hopefully) hear about this all again soon as I will run through the Troutbeck knitting experience and give some thoughts on how the pattern was to knit for me. Cheers Stephen.
