Is Episode 4, I begin to design a custom subframe for the bike. I cut down the stock frame in anticipation of the new subframe, and begin to restore some parts.

I'd recommend just getting them sandblasted if you want a really amazing final product. You can prep by taking the parts off and cleaning them in advance. Otherwise you'll be sanding for days.

Hi Hard work by hand is really the only answer to getting the results that you will truly be happy with & yes I have done the same as 10 year’s ago & im still very happy with the results

it's good to see you back on the project! I will watch closely your progress and I admire your bold approach to smoothing the design of rear suspension. this black discolorations it is not corosion but carbon, you can use an acid based cleaning compound to dissolve mineral contamination. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll be posting episodes more regularly now. Ah ok, good to know thats just carbon.

Sandblast the cover would be most effective. The brown stuff on the inside is just oil that dries up after years of operation. Every (older) engine has it.

Hey brother to answer your question I believe that is permatex Indian head gasket sealant, all the old-timers used that stuff and love it, if you don't already know...

look into vaporblasting.... it's better than sandblasting.... comes down to the sands used for blasting.

Like some already said, sand blasting would be most efficient and it also roughs the parts up for paint.

Suggestion for next time - might be easier to have the paint shop sand blast the valve covers. Cleans the surface and gives it enough texture to take the paint.

boxster1990 yea, strongly considering that given how long the valve cover took

Looks really good, I'm kind of late to the party here but are the solidworks drawings from the cafe racer bible accurate in terms of dimensions or is it an approximation we are supposed to tailor their designs to the frames as you have done?

Really enjoying watching the progress - thanks so much for sharing! I know how much longer everything must be taking when you have to stop, set up your camera, check the focus, do some work, check the camera again, etc etc! I bought the Café Racer Bible from the Retrorides guys and am 100% with you in terms of the 'engineered' flat look on the rear suspension. It looks great, but could look fantastic! Love the idea of smoothing those elements out - how far did you get with that? Would love to see how you changed things up. Merry Christmas!
