Your sweaters are beautiful. I have not knit the Ranunculus yet but seeing yours I may have to cast one on. I am working on a Felix cardigan. My garden has not done well this year either. Last year I had a bumper crop of green beans and tomatoes. I picked 6 green beans today (sigh). We were inundated with Japanese beetles this year so my flowers are looking pretty sad. Hopefully next year will be better. I'm glad you are able to stay home this year. I love being home and not having to worry about a work schedule. Enjoy the time with your family. It goes by so fast. I pray your daughter recovers quickly.
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I knit a Felix pullover and really loved it. I actually have yarn to make another and I've thought about doing the cardi version instead of the pullover. Gardening can definitely be tough. And the Japanese beetles always give us a run for our money. My husband goes out every morning and knocks them off all of the plants into a bucket of soapy water. That works best for us. Lots of work though.

I love your new Tammy Gore shawl. And I would LOVE a shawl podcast. I like cresent-shaped also. I also am not a fan of assymetical shawls because I find them hard to style also. It's hard to wear them. oh my goodness, and I absolutely ADORE your soft blue-green combo squish WIP Runniculus (sp?). Why is it that you point me to so many wonderful paterns? I never thought that I liked the Runnuniculus because it looks so loose and oversized, but yours, both of them, are turning out just lovely! I love the idea of a Srappy episode. And also, I am such an avid spinner, that I would LOVE an episode on patterns that are very good for handspun yarn.
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chelle! What a great idea! An episode on patterns that are good for handspun. Love that idea! When I first saw the Ranunculus, I thought the same thing. It was WAY too oversized for my taste! But the pattern is so versatile that you can change the look of it by changing the yarn and needle size. That's why I like it so much!

Amber, I too am late on the Ranunculus sweater, but I do want to knit one up for myself and love how yours turned out!! Your socks (wildflowers and honeycomb) with the toe alternated colors is brilliant. I never thought of doing that, but that is such a good idea. So great to see you again and hope you have a wonderful rest of your summer!! As for gardening, I feel like you and I learn every year. My father in law told me to plant Marigolds by my tomatoes and it would denture the worms. So far, that has really worked. I have only had two worms this season. Maybe the trick is to find the flowers that help with the vegetables. My mother always planted jalapenos by her roses and that worked too (as far as keeping the grasshoppers away). LOL, little tricks we learn.

Hi Amber, lovely projects! You inspire me to make a Ranunculus which I have been resisting for so long. But with Drops Belle, I think, it will look great and be wearable in the summer. Plus I have always wanted to try that yarn. Regarding gardening: you are speaking my mind. Vegetables are harder to grow. You can add some no see through lace at the “V” area across to cover the opening. Can you put the tank in the dryer after spraying it until damp or do to shrink it a little? Or, you can make darts on the sweater by seeing them on the sewing machine. Or take in the sides on the sewing machine. Knitting a gauge is so very important. Other u tubers say this too.
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Those are some really good ideas! I don't remember my gauge being off. I think it's a matter of picking a size that was too big. But you had some great ideas on how to modify it. Thank you!

Wonderful episode, as always! I would love for you to do the shawl episode first (being selfish here)...we’re planning a road trip out west in September, and I need a shawl pattern to work on! Thank you for all of your efforts! Continued success and much joy! ❤️🥰

Thank you so much, Jeanette! It would actually work out great to do the shawl episode first as I've already gathered all of the info. Stay tuned!

A lovely podcast, as usual Amber! The garden looks amazing! Podcasting outside is a win-win! This year’s drought took a toll on my fig trees. Normally, I would have eaten ginormous organic figs by now. It looks awful! Yes, my flowers did better than my figs this year! Your Ranunculus looks absolutely stunning. It makes me want to try and knit one too. I am not sure if I can knit all those lace details. I have been knitting baby stuff this whole summer because we are expecting the first grand kid at the end of the year. Your ideas with using yarn scraps is a great idea, can’t wait you podcast it! Enjoying time home to take care of your family is a great idea!

Oh the lace on the Ranunculus isn't hard!!! I bet you could do it! And the drought also impacted a lot of our stuff too, especially our blueberries.

There are tutorials for every step of the Ranunculus. I'm not a lace knitter, but found it to be fun and not hard. Go for it!

Hi Amber 👋 this is my first time watching your podcast and I loved it 😍 my mum mentioned you to me, both of us want to knit the Ranunculus and you talk about 3 in this episode it has been very helpful 😊

Hi Sylvia! Oh if you both want to knit it, then you should definitely give it a go! Thank you so much for watching and thank your mom for me for recommending my channel! ❤️

So sorry to hear about your daughter’s health issues. Sounds so painful! Your Ranunculus FO and WIP are beautiful! Glad you’re having fun knitting that pattern. I haven’t tried it yet, although I bought the pattern. I’d love to see any episode you do with shawl and mini skein ideas! I’m always looking for ways to use my stash. The podcast Meanwhile at the Castle posted an episode about a month ago with mini skein ideas. We can always use more!

Hi Cathy! Thank you so much for watching and for saying hello! I'm definitely going to plan on doing both of those episodes some time in the future. I too am always looking for fun ways to use up my mini skeins! Scrappy projects are so fun to work on!

So nice to see you again, Amber. I completely understand your feelings about the Ranunculus pattern because I had what seems to be a very similar experience. It seemed almost fake how everybody was making it again and again, I don't know how to explain, but yeah, I didn't want to make it... Yet I had several balls of standard lace weight silk mohair that I had purchased for another project and ended up not using, I didn't know what to do with them so one day I thought, ok, I'll make the Ranunculus with these just to see what the deal is and whatever happens, happens. So I made it, according to pattern, the smallest size is very much oversized for me, the silk mohair with 6 mm needles is so much see through, yet it turns out I like the sweater very much and it is the perfect thing to have in the summer to throw over my t-shirt in the evening if it gets chilly. Not only that, while I was finishing it I was already thinking, "oh, I do get it now!" - and I want to make more, in different yarn weights, perhaps some with tighter gauge, and it is, like... I will look at some yarn and I'll suddenly think, I bet this will make a great Ranunculus... It is just, as you said, such a versatile pattern. I wish your daughter fast healing.

Hahaha! Yep! That's how it happened with that sweater! I'm almost annoyed with myself for liking it so much. 😆 🤣 😂

Hi Amber! Loved this episode so much. I was thinking about making a Ranunculus and ordering the Barrett wool Birkin kit and here you are talking about both!! I am going to order some Drops Belle today for the Ranunculus but I think I will wait to see what you think about the new Birkin adjustments. I just started knitting my first musselburgh hat and love it- might be Christmas knits for all instead of socks. I would love you to do a scrappy project episode but the simple shawls would be great too! I totally get how you feel about the veg gardening! This year my tomatoes are healthy and have a ton of fruit - but they are staying GREEN - I don't understand why they aren't starting to ripen - and it is all of the plants. I always enjoy growing lettuce and green beans and cucumbers and this year I mananaged some really good carrots which was amazing since they always looked like Mandrakes from Harry Potter. But everything else is questionable. Deer and rabbits have eaten most of my pepper leaves so they are doing nothing. Flowers bring so much more joy... at least thats what I am saying now - next March and April I may be singing a different song;) As always- thanks for the inspiration!!

Hi Chris! Thank you so much for your kind comment! Enjoy knitting the Ranunculus. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use my Drops Belle for a third one! Haha. Gardening is definitely an experiment and is full of both victories and frustrations! Especially when you're doing organic gardening and dealing with multiple pests!

So fun to “sit outside with you” during this podcast. I absolutely loved your idea for the special podcasts - especially a scrappy project video! I’ve been wanting to discover more scrappy projects. I knit the Birkin a few years ago (before the yoke modifications were made). I can definitely understand people’s complaints about the yoke fit but honestly, it is still my absolutely favorite pullover to date. It was a JOY to make and one that I’m still so proud of because the color work was a challenge for me. The only thing I would change is making it in different yarn. I used Brooklyn Tweed Loft (which I love) and the armpits are starting to get pretty thin. I hope to make another one some day in a yarn that is more durable. Can’t wait to see your version! I’m really curious how the Barrett Wool Co. yarn holds up. I love Susan’s version 🤍
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Hey Annie! I'm so excited to get started on it! I've used various bases from Barrett Wool Co. in the past and they all feel pretty sturdy. I've never used this fingering weight base yet though.

I just did a ranunculus in Line by Sandnes Garn which I think is the same fiber content as Belle and I LOVE it, so I think you need a warm weather ranunculus 😉 I absolutely love the color of your blue ranunculus, so gorgeous. Both of the podcast ideas sound fantastic, I love it when people talk about all the different patterns, I’d like to add Night Storm by Heidi May if it hasn’t been added, I just knit that this summer and it was such a fun, easy knit, I could see myself knitting it again. PS, I want to love homemaking, maybe it will get easier as the kids get older, but right now it just feels like I’m trying to clean behind a tornado and I’m just tired! Also, there’s always knitting and I’m bad at putting it down and doing what needs to be done, especially after school is finished for the day 😴 I really love the Homemaker Chic podcast (Parisienne Farmgirl and The Elliott Homestead on YT), they’re the only reason I get laundry done!

You just enjoy those years with your kiddos! My youngest is now 16, and the other two are now adults. I miss the young years even though they felt so stressful and busy and chaotic when I was in the midst of them. You'll have plenty of time to do all of the other homemaking things when your kids are older and more independent.

I totally understand about the asymmetrical shawls…how in the heck do you wear them? Crescent shape is the best in my opinion too!

Hi Amber, I think the yarn for your 2nd Ranunculus could be Baerenwolle in her iconic colorway Pond. I don't think she dyes anymore but she was a very popular yarn dyer about 5 years ago. Thanks for a lovely podcast Tracy - Sydney, Australia
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy! Wow! I can't believe that you could recognize a yarn color and dyer's work! That's so impressive. I do really love the color, especially held with the minty colored suri alpaca. Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you, Amber, for an enjoyable episode, I’ve missed watching you. I’m glad that your daughter is on the mend, how scary it must have been. I’m currently knitting the Birkin with Barrette Wool Co. yarn, but in two colors. I also had been put off by the comments of an ill fitting yolk; I’m so glad that the pattern was fixed. I originally bought the yarn for another one of Kaitlyn Hunter’s patterns, but when I saw someone’s version of the Birkin knit in two colors, I knew that I had to cast it on. I have a few more rows of the colorwork section, but when I tried it on the other day, I was so happy with how it looks and fits. I’m looking forward to seeing your Birkin. It has been a strange gardening summer, my green beans are JUST starting to come in, even though I planted them in early May. It’s been a very hot summer, here in Minnesota, we’re finally getting some cooler temperatures. Thanks again! I’m looking forward to your next podcast.
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
I'm SO glad to hear that you think the Birkin yoke is fitting well! I can't wait to get started on mine. I was going to wait until September to cast on, but I think I'll probably cast on as soon as the yarn arrives!

To determine the size of your v-neck sleeveless top, can you count the # of stitches at the bust below the armholes? Also, this sleeveless top could be worn over a Blouse or long sleeve top as a vest. I have somewhat of an obsession with Ranunculus, as well. I have knit 2 and keep wanting to make another and another! Great podcast!
@alovelyyarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! Yep, I can totally count those stitches! Just didn't think of that for some reason. Haha.
