I'm so glad the coffee came out of your teccla sweater! I'm pretty sure that to knit a sock inside out you knit in stockinette in the round working on the inside of your circle with the floats on the outside and then when you get past the colorwork you can flip the sock right side out and continue knitting. It just helps your floats be subtlety longer because they're on the outside instead of the inside if that makes sense. I'm so glad I am a continental knitter now. It makes ribbing so much faster!❤🧶

Oh my goodness, thank you SO MUCH for the super sweet shout out! I'm glad I found you as well, I've been enjoying watching you 😊💜 PS you're definitely motivating me to film the video about how we started the shop and all of that, and I will have to deep dive possum as well. I appreciate all your kind words. By the way, other people have probably mentioned this but knitting colorwork socks inside out is definitely super simple! No purling involved. You literally just knit the same way but your knitting is turned inside out so that the floats run along the outside and therefore should stretch out a bit more... I hope that makes sense and you should definitely try it!

Good Morning knitting Amber! I love your fall socks, so color appropriate! Your insights into knitting challenges you experience are so helpful to me, as a newish knitter. As a "forever " crochter, I wanted to learn to knit, in order to make "smooth" socks. But this winter, after not knitting for a year, I discovered what knitted knockers is all about, so I'm looking forward to doing that for my Christmas charity project. I so enjoy your filming style of real life and music choice! Thank you for sharing. Peace and Blessings always, Kay 🧶🧦🍂

Thank you for the close-up on the Peace Fleece aran weight yarn: it made me curious enough to go take a look at their online products. Thank you also for showing your Intertwined sock. It's a very beautiful stitch pattern that works out nicely with your variegated yarn. I think this is the inspiration I needed to finally buy my first skein of variegated or speckled yarn !!! ❤❤❤

You are nice and tall at 5’8”. I on the other hand am 4’ 9” but I have a long torso and very short legs. It is interesting when we start thinking about body sizes and being able to knit the same sweaters, just need to adapt to the torso length. Always look forward to your podcast, so thank you for giving your time to share with the rest of us. Wow, so happy you were able to rescue your knitting project after the coffee accident 🙏🏻

I've been enjoying the Black Cat Knit Co podcasts, too! I'll have to look for Galanthus Knits. I plan to do my Advent knitting in January. My December will be too busy. My kids and grandkids will be here for the month, then they're moving overseas Jan 1, so I'll be crying in my knitting (since I don't like beer 😉). I can take my time and enjoy the knitting therapy since the Christmas gift knitting season will be over.

The smock stitch is very easy to do, and looks great. I used it on my 2x2 ribbing to make a plain teal sweater (in Lanas Light yarn) fancier after watching Fruity Knitting's interview with a designer. I can relate to knitting for a short torso; I am 5'2" with a 31" inseam. I am too risk averse to consider drinking anything other than water while knitting; your tale confirms my worst fears (although you could always spill coffee while wearing the sweater, so it's good that you know how to get it out). Knitting colorwork socks inside out just means that the sock is inside out while you are knitting on the right side (you're knitting from the inside, but the floats are being stretched on the outside of the sock as you knit along).

Amber, I'm so glad that those coffee stains came out of your project. I probably would have had a temper tantrum and ripped the thing to pieces. LOl, you're not losing your mind, I too got the maryann sweater when it was free! Completely forgot had it in my library, you've inspired me to knit it. Knitting socks inside out, just flick your knitting to the inside, so you'll be knitting on the 'back' needle instead of the 'front'. The floats sit on the outside of the sock, giving more space for the floats,. It's a bit weird for the first row of the first time you do it, but then it makes sense, it's so easy. I knit & teach colourwork sock knitting in my country, I encourage my students to use 9" circs, which most do, but there are plenty of videos. I also watch BlackCat Knit co, the New Zealand possum is considered a invasive pest over there, so they had to be culled, their fur is divine, so soft and smooshy. We do get NZ possum wool over here in Australia, wonderful for socks, and for those who have sheep wool sensitivities, however it's been contentious as initially how the fur was obtained wasn't humane.

I love your sweater! And I wholeheartedly agree with you, body island is way worse than sleeve knitting-I was telling this to my friend just yesterday. As for colourwork in the round I recently failed at color sock knitting because I am very new at socks and my friend gave me the same advice “knit it inside out”. So basically you knit the same way but turn your work inside out so you have the floats looking “out” -it almost looks like you are hiding your knitting 😂. Thanks for keeping me company in a day where I needed some decompressing after a long week.

Another comment mentioned this but Madeleine from Fruity Knitting has been knitting the Jenny jacket for her friend and she's talked a bit about it on at least one if not two episodes. So glad the coffee came out! I don't like knitting inside out colorwork (but have no issues with my tensions anyway 😊). You could try using a larger needle size. I can empathize with the coffee debacle, I've done something similar!! I think I was more worried about the sticky creamer than the actual coffee. 🤣😂🤣 I would consider that one yarn an aran weight, which is somewhere between worsted and bulky. You're probably going to have enough yarn for 2-3 hats! 😉 The way I understand "knitting inside out" is that you knit, but the wrong side is on the outside... I guess the easiest way is to say you have the knitting on the inside.. it's really hard to explain, even though I can easily visualize it. Start it as you normally would, when you get to the color work flip it inside out and keep knitting. Hopefully that makes sense.

I finished my batty for halloween soccs that I ripped out and started sgain, my husband has many pairs that need replacing so am knittong him 3 pairs for his birthday. Found canadian foioball team yarn at polka dot creek. Bc liona and sask. Roughriders. Then also found Vancouver Canuck yarn for my older son. So 4 pairs were on the needles at once. Now down to 2 pairs with one more yet to cast on. Needing a break from socks. Break8ng it up with some charity crafting fot ourhealthcare auxiliary. Big Christmas fund raiser coming up in Nov. Also completed 4 paits of socks for btidge friends for Chtistmas.

Hi Amber, I love Summer Lee Design Co . Colorwork Cuff club, the motifs are so pretty. I had the same problem with the colorwork fitting over my (apparently gigantic) heel/instep. So I knit the second sock using the larger needles (US2) for the colorwork, knit inside out, but I also increased after the ribbing and before starting the chart to the next size stitch count. All these things combined eliminated the fit problem.

Knit your colorwork socks with the floats on the outside. You are not purling, you just have the inside of the sock turned to the outside but you can still access the knit side of the fabric to knit the pattern. Try it and see. There also must be a video showing the method somewhere. It helps keep the floats a bit longer since they are forced to float around a larger circumference.

Colorwork socks for me are best knit inside out where the design is facing inside and you end up knitting the back row of the needle instead of the front…after you try it it will make better sense to you. 😊

Knitting socks “inside out” doesn’t mean purling, it is just pulling the sock through your needles, so the floats will be on the OUTSIDE rather than in the middle of your needles. So it looks inside out as you’re knitting. Clear as mud? 😅

The bushtail possum is considered an invasive pest in New Zealand. They are trapped for their pelts so yarn would be made from their fur. It doesn't sound very nice but this possum has had a devastating effect on agriculture in NZ. They carry bovine tuberculosis, which is a major threat to the dairy, beef and deer farming industries so there is a concerted effort to control their population.
