At the beginning - season 1 - we all knew that Viren is the villain with some bad excuse to be one.
That didn't change. What did change in the following 2 seasons, however, is more and more depth that the man we see is a Villain, but he is also a hero.
Viren is light and darkness entwined in one tormented soul. His faults are far to great for him to resist, but he is also "𝑺𝒆𝒍𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒂 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒐 ."
