Thank you for watching. I really need the support.

I have an 87 951 (and an 87 944 S) so I have been following your series religiously. As a video topic recommendation, I would like to request a video on the DME and KLR - How do they work? What is the difference between them? How do you test them? What should you look out for? Where are performance chips installed and what do they alter? What is the FQS Switch - when and why would you want to adjust it? How does an 8V DME differ from the 16V cars (auto idle adjustments, "learning" in open/closed loop, etc). Please keep them coming and I look forward to Saturday's video!

This is a great idea! I'll sort out the details for this. It will be a little while, but we'll get it done. Thanks for the idea!!

I'm glad to hear that Michael, thanks for being a part of our project and our journey. More great stuff to come!

Saved this one. I will watch it again and again. Not yet sure about the condition of my transaxle. Resolving a crank no-start then clutch MC then the car may actually move! Great content. 👍👏

Cranks no start I usually find dme relay. Or the speed and reference sensors are switched. Fuel pump failure too.

This is awsome because I need to fix mine

Ah man where was this video a month ago when I took my trans apart lol to install a lsd, another awesome job! With my dowl pin i modified a old CV axle bolt(close to the same size, just had to turn it down a little) and use the socket method to pull the dowl pin out instead of pushing it with a punch
@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios Жыл бұрын
I probably should have used a socket, I wasn't thinking. I was sure that punch was going to do it. But......Anyway, next time, I'll have the right tool. Thank you for sharing your experience, we love to hear from all of you..

Great content, keep it going. Interested to know what special tools are needed.

Thank you! More great stuff coming. We'll keep the door open for all 944 as well

Your videos have been so helpful in replacing my clutch and resealing the transaxle. Can you help me find new dowel pins that connect the transmission case to the differential case? Can't find a part number with any hits online. Maybe even if you just know the size. Just like in the video I destroyed them while punching out. Thanks, Steve

Russ, this is going to be epic! I was studying the factory service manual along with your video and you are right on track. Given how technically detail oriented the German engineers are, it will be interesting to see where you deviate in practice. For example, they use 4 different shims to adjust the pinion and differential backlash and bearing pre-load, and an extensive process for measuring these items. Is this something you have to do every time you disassemble/assemble one of these units? Same with disassembly/assembly of the input and output shafts as they have a variety of circlips of various thickness to compensate for wear. Plus all the specialty tools and the use of an oven to heat the aluminum castings to 250-300 degrees F to remove and replace bearing races. Wow, if I could learn from you how to rebuild my transaxle with oil cooler and lsd, that would be awesome! Thank you!

Hi Jeff, although there are so many procedures for a ring and pinion replacement, or if you have to replace a case or pinion bearings, the procedures are pretty simple. If any of the above needs to be replaced, then the pinion depth, backlash, and preload need to be measured. In our case, we won't need to do any extensive work. I just picked up a 385 measuring bar. It's not complete, but I'm going to try to gather the rest of the system so I can demonstrate it. Thank you so much for hanging in there with us.

I don't know if there's a 944 trans video teardown video that's this informative online at all. So helpful and fun to watch. I just bought an AOR awhile back to replace my open diff turbo trans. I haven't driven the car with it yet, but with an LS built for the roadcourse, I imagine I'll be doing some work to it one day. I'd love to try to do most of it myself and this video gives me hope! I have to see to learn, workshop manuals just don't cut it for me. Was this trans an LSD?

at least wipe the pan clean that you drain the transmission fluid into...seriously. How can you ever ascertain that there is no debris in the fluid? Another good episode of "944 dissection" though.
@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios Жыл бұрын
Actually, the pan was clean of any debris. It looks bad because the bottom is all scratched up. Everything will be inspected thoroughly. Thank you for watching. I hope all we do here is helpful
