When I was an apprentice, I went on a service call with my journeyman to a bridal shop. The back of the shop was completely open with a 30' ceiling, and you could see all the panels and raceways going up to the ceiling, and it was immaculate. Best work I've ever seen. Every row of offsets matched perfectly. That's when I knew what craftsmanship was.

I remember talking with a construction crew I worked with about mindfulness. At first they brushed it off as hippie crap but after a good conversation about safety they got it. I love you brought up the intention of samurai. This was ultimately what I was trying to say. Being mindful of the work and doing everything with intention means we all get to go home to see your families at the end of the day.

I had a new guy start working with me about 2 years ago, he just retired from the army with 22 years of service. I told him very early on that we would see a lot of fucked up hack work, there are so many people that just don’t care but I take a lot of pride in doing things nice, neat and right. After almost 2 years he said to me “I still remember when you told me how I would see a lot of hack work and I am amazed on how right you were.” Great video

I had a pair of brothers working for me, family are friends, their mom and I were talking one day and she claimed I had ruined her boys, since they now look at conduit runs to see if they were plumb and looked good. They notice open boxes, one of them grabbed his mom and kept her from walking under an open box, in a Walmart... Nothing prettier than a well run conduits going into a panel, when every bend is the same and all the couplings line up

I dropped out of college and decided to make being a union electrician my new career. I dont mind the work I knew it was physical when I signed up. What I didnt realize was the "quality" of people in the trades. Whats with grown ass men graffiti-ing up the porta-johns? like how is that a professional adult in a respectable job? do you ever see nurses or accountants or firefighters doing that sort of thing? Those sort of things give construction workers a bad stereotype in my opinion, being a craftsmen to alot of these guys is an idea in another dimension.

I can't even count the times in my 26 years in the trade, where I have went to pull wire in somebody elses run of conduit and had the pipe come apart at one or more couplers or connectors. I get accused of the OCD thing occasionally too. Concealed conduit does not have to be perfect, but it needs to stay together and intact. Great video, Thanks. Russ from Oregon.

That's about the gist of it my dude. There will always be critics, seriously electricians are tough on other electricians. This trade needs a little lifting up in that way, as everybody thinks they know more than the next guy/girl. Just take pride in what you do and ask a lot of questions, read books, magazines, join groups. Most importantly ALWAYS think of yourself as a student. Had a Cheif electrician that was the best at bending conduit when he was not chading skirts in the office or New York times crossword puzzle evry day. He was the worst for wiring. Pulled about 60 control wires tight over 60 amp fuses. Never left enough slack to pull a motor out of a machine. One of our guys used to draw a hammer & a condom inside his boxes. AKA Joes hacknwork. He would not stick up for me when I raised hell when ahole refrigetation guy ran a copper line in front a 480 fusible safety switch. I cut it out and flattened ends of copper. Hack workers make the rest of people working on equipment work that much harder.

I really appreciate this video. I always try to do the best work I can and it drives me nuts when my coworkers don’t pay attention to the small details. Its the small things that build the reputation of your business. My grandpa was a bricklayer. He was building cabins for the forest service when he got stuck with an inspector that wanted him to tear everything down and redo it cause he didnt like the tolerances in the spacing of the bricks. Overall, he had the right spacing, but because of windows and corners and such from brick to brick, it wasn’t always exactly there, which is normal for brickwork. Well to have to tear all the cabins down and redo them would have bankrupt my grandfather. So he went to the higher up of the inspector- who just so happened to know my grandfathers father and had worked with him before. As soon as he found out who my grandfather was, he personally went down to take a look at the cabins and saw that they were good and passed him off on it. I’m proud of the work ethic of my great-grandfather, who passed it on to my grandfather, who passed it onto my father, who passed it on to me. Have pride in the work you do, and others will too. Thanks again

Dustin, Right On! One time I got called to go to a building that I had designed that I was being blamed the elevator was shutting down. Elevator installers said it was a grounding problem. When I found EMT with loose connectors, the electrician said "That is why we put green wires in the conduit". I said "That is sloppy crap, fix all of them!" Of course the problem was not grounding, but that is what was told to the owner. The problem was a circuit board in the controller. Since it was only happening in one of the two, when they swapped the board and the other one stopped working, the elevator tech had egg on his face! Your videos are VERY GOOD!!! Kevin

Its just some meters and disconnects with the conduit ran to wherever, but he’s mainly just trying to show the quality work of whoever put it in. See how everything is equally spaced , square, and level from the base all the way up? Craftsmanship.
@jovetj4 жыл бұрын
1:47 I suspect this is the electrical service for the building he's using as his studio. Power comes from below into the box on the left from the transformer. A Main disconnect is provided. It then heads to the right into the box under the meters, where multiple metered circuits split off. Each circuit goes up into the meter box, where it's measured, and then up into a main disconnect for that customer. Then the conduits carry it up and into the building where it needs to go for that customer.
