🇺🇸I was 16 when this movie came out and I got the joy to drive a brand new 1998 ML320 shortly afterward. I never dreamed of owning one someday, but $600 later I am a proud owner! Since it isn’t new, I don’t feel bad to create this awesome vehicle! 😎

@@LakeZidePerformance that seems like an absolute bargain! Nice one. Question: the boxes on the sides of the car. Are they storage boxes or fuel/jerry cans? I've never been able to find out for sure.

@@richardchallenger7739 based on the videos I watched of the RV restoration, I wouldn’t be surprised if those boxes were completely hollow inside or made of wood.

Thanks! I have done so much research into overlanding, overlanding equipment, specs, etc. lately in order to come up with real life working solutions for this ML. The movie ML was really just full of props and fake things glued together with hot glue to get the shots. I want everything to work as if it would if this was made for a real life dinosaur excursion!

The paint looks awesome!! I really like how the colors turned out. Eventually I'll repaint mine and might see if I can match the ones you came up with. One of the guys on the JPMP Workshop facebook page posted a ton of pictures of the Santana version that's in Germany, but I haven't seen any similar posts of the other two versions at their respective museum locations. The large holes on the back bumper are for tow reinforcement plates. They're an "L" shaped that bolt on the back and side of the frame. I found a set (the reinforcement pieces, wire harness, tow hitch) on Ebay a couple years ago, but they're a pretty rare find along with those fender flares (accidently found some in good condition at a junkyard). I've seen other ML owners have issues towing without those reinforcement plates (when towing heavier hitch weight trailers), so if you're planning on adding anything to the back bumper/towing it'll be worth finding them. Def keep an eye out on those junkyard ML's and you might find the other pieces if you want the OEM parts. Also thanks for documenting your work on the ML. When I painted mine I didn't have time to film, so its fantastic that you're taking the time to film/edit these videos for people to see your progress!!

It really did turn out great, my neighbor brought his kids over which are fans of JP and they were super wow and all about it and asking tons of questions. I listed all of the paint codes and colors in the description under every video if you need those. Just a comment about filming, I film everything with my iPhone 12 and a decent stand. Filming all of this makes the project take longer than it should due to doing it all by myself and having to deal with full storage, moving the stand to get the shots, thinking up ideas of how it will look, etc. I had started documenting these projects of mine recently so my children can see me even after I am gone doing the things I love. My goal is to document all of my bucket list vehicles on this channel and the process I go through for each one of them. I am a huge car nut and have been all my life!

There is a orginial ML from the set of "The Lost World" at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart (Germany.) Since a few years they kind of hidding this ML right beetween some other cars, so it is nearly impossible to get a clear look at the car, or even make good pictures. 😣

I would love to travel to my heritage country to see it! I think that is the pickup version, I know I will get to see one in March next year when I go to Universal in Florida. Only issue is that one has been sitting outside so long that it doesn’t look original anymore. I’m sure it’s paint has been touched up several times. It will still be cool to see. I would love to do some measurements of a few things to share for future builds.

If you’re going to fabricate the bumpers, side and hood greeblies, would you consider making two and I can pay you for one or I can trade for parts you don’t have yet? I was going to 3D print the hood greeblie.

Now that you mention that, I am designing those things in AutoCAD. When I get finished I am willing to share those AutoCAD .dwg files with anyone that needs them or hopefully someone can put them out there on the JP website or something even after I am far gone from this world. Let me see how the first set goes and if it isn't a hassle I may consider making them for you and others if you still need them. Hopefully I will have more time, I work too much which takes time away from my hobby! I haven't been able to work on it in a couple of weeks due to work!

The Lost World Mercedes Benz ML320 is actually a 1997 Model Not a 1998.

🇺🇸 You are correct, but there is actually not a production built 1997 m-class. The units in the movie were pre-production units. The closest available production built m-class would have been the 1998 model. 👍🏻

🇺🇸Now that’s great information! Thanks for sharing! I love finding things like that and extra wires in the harness to be able to add factory options on the cheap from a junk yard. The car makers don’t do that too much anymore. 🤷🏻‍♂️
