Welcome to Aunt Debbie's Boutique
Each video with highlight a simple project, with me showing you step by step how to cut it out and construct it. Simple techniques that don't cause frustration.
All you need is a sewing machine you can operate, a pair of fabric scissors, sewing pins, a seam ripper, and an iron. A cutting mat, rulers and rotary cutters are an added bonus. We will address fabric, thread and needles in each video.
Patterns are child friendly but children always should be supervised when sewing.
I am a single mom in W. Texas with a 30 yr old daughter who has had a passion for sewing since I was 10 years old. I also have numerous nieces and nephews and have sewn for them since they were born and that is where my brand of Aunt Debbie's Boutique comes from. I have spent most of my adult life teaching sewing classes to kids and adults. This channel is dedicated to passing these patterns and skills to a larger audience in a much more user friendly format. You can watch these videos at your convience rather than have to choose between going to your sewing class or your kids soccer game.
Let's get to sewing!

It was so refreshing to not have to listen to someone else’s choice of music opening with the commentary. Such a pretty quilt.

Thank you so much. I put music in some of my first videos but found I like the silence better…or the sound of the sewing machine so I quit doing that. So glad you agree!

Thank you so much for this video! Your method of teaching makes the video enjoyable, educational and encourages me to quilt. I particularly appreciate the silence while sewing, it gives me time to really think about what you had just said. Sometimes too much chatter is disturbing, proof positive that less IS more. Well done!!

Blessings! First time seeing a video from your channel! Thank you! I appreciate the “I shouldn’t and I should off” as well as the whole video! It helps me understand what to do and what not to do. I am self taught and I have made one quilt and I have two in progress (can’t seem to decide on a center square for them)… One suggestion is that since you’re teaching maybe you should label with numbers like you did on your pattern on each of the different cuts you’re making and then the label should stay on each part on the very first block you’re making that way you won’t have to figure it out since you are trying to show us on camera, it would be easier! Have a blessed day!
@auntdebbiesboutique1223
@auntdebbiesboutique1223 3 ай бұрын
Numbering them is definitely a good idea. When the camera turns on, I forget my name and can’t see a straight seam. There’s something about knowing everyone is watching you, that makes you mess up more. So taking extra steps to lessen the confusion is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion and I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Can you please tell the u finished size of your blocks are? I also am over the moon excited that you gave the fabric amounts to us. I hadn’t yet seen anywhere to find the amount of fabric needed in a log cabin quilt. Is there anywhere/anyway to figure out the fabric quantities for a larger quilt without the borders being so wide? Thank you so very much for sharing your time and knowledge with us! You are greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much. I did a 3 part series taking a few simple quilt and quilting it different ways. If you’ll search on my channel for Episodes 49-1 thru 49-3, I explain 3 different ways. I had intended to show a 4th way, free motion quilting, but my machine I quilt with broke down and had to go into the shop. I have it back so have added that video to my list too get back to. There is also a series about a sampler quilt for beginners that shows more details about borders. It was Episodes 42-1 through 42-13. I send a lot of mine out to be quilted by someone who has a long arm quilt machine but I hope to do more myself in the future because that’s expensive. Hope this helps. I’ll try to add more details about the finishing in future videos. God bless! Glad you love the Lord too!

Hello. Im new to quilting, would a twin size such as this be a good baby blanket? Also if I want it to be bogger than a twin size would I need more blocks?
@auntdebbiesboutique1223
@auntdebbiesboutique1223 3 ай бұрын
A baby quilt is usually just 9 blocks, 3 rows of 3 blocks and yes, more blocks would make it bigger. Just decide on what size you want and divide each measurement by 14 to figure out how many blocks. You can also make it slightly smaller than the need and add borders to get it bigger. If you tell me what size you want, I can make some suggestions. Thank you.

I have never quilted before. My mom started a quilt, chose the fabric and started cutting out the strips, but before she could sew them together she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Mom passed away and I have her material for the quilt. I’m going to try and make this in her memory. I have a question about sewing the strips together. Watching you, I noticed you don’t tie off the seams when sewing them. How do you keep them from unraveling or ripping apart?
@auntdebbiesboutique1223
@auntdebbiesboutique1223 2 ай бұрын
You don’t need to tie off seams if you use a small enough stitch length (1.5-2) and if the seam is going to be crossed with another seam which they all will. I usually back stitch at the beginning and ending of a long row of chaining or use can use a leader and ender which are scrap pieces of fabric that give you a running start and let you sew off the end. I rarely have problems with seams coming apart. You might want to watch my series on the Beginner Friendly Sampler Quilt. I go into more depth on this and a few other things. Let me know if you have any problems or questions. I’m happy to help.

It’s in the description box. Click on the line that says “Episode 52 Log Cabin Quilt” and there will be more information show up. The link is there. Let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll try something else.
