Sol is the brains here. His intelligible input is of great value. I went to a better school, there is an added advantage in being in a school where teachers are competent and present, facilities are all functional and resources are readily available. It was nice. The timing is not off. He's right.

Well yes but I went to a public school and got 4 distinctions. I also have friends who got 99% for maths and phys, public school kids can get great marks if they just put in the work. There are programs that support public school kids like promaths, you just gotta sacrifice groove. Bro could've chosen another time to bring that up, he sounds like he wants to promote victim mentality, we can't cry about everything and expect Government to take care of us, we are responsible for our own lives... life was never meant to be fair, it just is! play the cards you are dealt with
@lionelscarf2872 Жыл бұрын
@@TBG26 I did not go to a private school. I went to a public school. In a Jewish area. Everything was immaculate. I cannot say the same for the schools that were around my area. Most schools in the hood don't have basic things like swimming, squash, tennis, even E.G.D, not to mention a computer lab. We have brilliance in the hood but it is misdirected because of lack of resources. I know people who fix p.c's but they did not do CAT or I.T in high school. Imagine if they had those opportunities. It is not a victim mentality to wish the same for everyone. There are some schools in this country that are so well-resourced that of you don't have enough money for varsity, you have amassed enough knowledge through high school to start something and make money.
@TBG26 Жыл бұрын
@@lionelscarf2872 Well put, cannot disagree with you here, we didn't have most of the stuff you mentioned. It's great to wish others had those basic resources... but unfortunately that's not how this system we are currently in works. An equal playing field for all is impossible, I agree that it's not fair but that's just how it is... for me there is no point in complaining that the Government should do this or that, that train has passed and we have seen that it doesn't work. The community taking matter into their own hands works, the individual taking matters into their own hands works... basically I'm saying complaining about things not being equal doesn't solve anything. Taking ownership of our own lives, being responsible for what happens in our lives (present and future) works. Yes it's not fair that some go to shitty schools and some go to better schools, but that's just how the system is. It's not fair that some have both parents and some have single/no parents at all, it's not fair that some are born into poverty and some are born into wealth, it's not fair that the weather in the Northern Hemisphere can get extremely cold but the weather in the South is not as bad, it's not fair that Lions can basically kill anything in the wild but Zebras can't. To summarize my point (while agreeing with you), complaints to the government don't get us anywhere, they clearly don't care... it's up to the individual to make the most of their situation and try to improve it for the next generation, it's up to the community to offer their "tech literacy classes" on weekends for kids because we see that they don't have IT at school. Government is not our parent, that's not what this structure is for. Back to the Sol convo, celebrate the kid's win without overshadowing it. It's like bringing up that other kids don't get to practice swimming at poor neighborhoods while your child is celebrating winning a regional swimming tournament... that's not emotionally intelligent I agree with you tho, it's not fair

But no, our government does not think we are worthy of civility, they just want to keep our people hopeless and desperate.

Great and engaging show as always. This comment is regarding the syllabus or content now vs when we were pupils. There have revisions done to the syllabus over years to align with learning standards, hence OBE vs CAPS, which is the system being used now. The way of asking questions has changed over the years, to be more application based (CAPs approach) than recall based (OBE). Back in my day (High school 2005-2009), the government exam papers were still asking questions that you could parrot learn and regurgitate it in tests/exams. The private schools which used the IEB system, would ask you more application based questions - so use a scenario to best illustrate the principles you had learnt, so you couldn't just study the material and be sure you'll pass. You needed to understand the content. This is what would give pupils the edge when at university, because it was no longer about what you learnt, but rather how you applied the knowledge.

Sol have a point and the timing was perfect. We can have more of this kind of achievement if the environment in rural areas was conducive

Sol used da girl's scenario as something to look up to..it's like saying "imagine coming from this girl's background was a norm, we would have this girl's performance as culture amongst us.

Sol is correct, and his timing was good. We do not have to be silent to speak the truth just because we fear being labeled has haters. As we celebrate it's also important to point out important facts...

Guys... The conversation we should be having here is 'Specialesed schools'. Not everyone that's in school is academically inclined...others would excel in art, others in sport...etc. Besides vernacular, all subjects are taught in English, a language that is not a home language for a majority of South Africans. If a pupil fails English, what are the chances of them passing other subjects that are taught in English? 36:08

ON 1:13:37 I wanted Sol to reach out to his intellectual hub and serve us, I feel like he could have unpacked what Mac was trying to say more in depth. Maybe because I understand and had so much to say about the subject especially from a spiritual standpoint.
