Episode 63. Ka-52. The charge of the Alligator

The headliner of this episode is the Russian strike-scout helicopter Ka-52 Alligator. It’s often called the flying tank of special forces and compared to the famous American Apache, and not in the favor of the latter. It has a powerful armament: 24 guided surface-to-air missiles, 80 unguided rockets, air-to-air missiles, aviation bombs with total weight of up to 2 tons - and an APC cannon on top of that. Reliable protection: modern armor, plus the newest electronic countermeasures system President. Amazing survivability: Ka-52 is capable of flying even if its tail is cut off. Besides, it’s the only helicopter with an actual pilot ejection system. It has absolutely unrivaled flight performance: Ka-52 easily performs the most difficult aerobatic stunts, even during the dangerous night missions. The Russian Alligator has recently demonstrated all its achievements and abilities during the special operations against the ISIS in Syria. So far this is the only Russian vehicle living up to my expectations in Ukraine. Seen a few alligators shot down but the crew always survive and it’s more like a landing than a crash. Defiantly can’t continue combat without a tail tho lol.

It can fight without the tail (there is no tail rotor as there is no rotor on the tail). But pilots land cus they don't wanna risk it. So far we have not seen a situation where ka52 only loses the tail (close to rudder)

Ka 52M is/will be better than Ah 64E. Just imagine an attack helicopter that -has 6 pylons in total. 50 80mm unguided rockets, 24 Vikhr/Ataka anti tank missiles (1000/950mm penetration behind ERA) 4 igla/verba air to air missiles, a 30 mm cannon with 460 rounds, all of this can be carried at the same time, payload capacity is 3 tons - Dircm (the most important counter measure against manpads) and also has got maws and ew suite. - doesn't have a tail rotor (one of the weakest spots of conventional choppers) -has network centric capabilities. It can also control UAV'S, get direct video feeds from them and also has secondary function of scouting enemies. -Got a 60 element aesa radar. Can detect tank size targets from 45 km's away and warships from 150 km's away and also has a good electro optical targetting pod under the radar OES 52 that is. -Can take 12.7 mm bullets at point blank and 23 mm shrapnels, basically can take a lot of beating. -Got new fadec controlled engines vk-2500. It also has the insane thrust to weight ratio, climb rate with all up weight can exceed 16 m/s.

Alligator is not a "protector", but a "predator", can wipe out an entire football field at once only by unguided missiles... To protect borders use drones to find problems, then by transport helicopter send special ops, or artillery shells.

I just started watching these video's and I really like them. They are very insightful and as an American I'm always interested in other countries, culture's, military, ect. I like Russia and would like to visit one day. They are the only ones in my opinion that have military machinery that can compare to the United States. I still like the Apache better than the alligator, but both are very capable and also beautiful aircraft.

Apache pilots have much more experience and flight hours than Russian pilots. The Americans fly more and work harder on targets, have more practice, and are better resourced! The Alligator is designed mainly to sell to other countries and this video is just an advertisement for the customer

All helicopters can land without an engine. It's called auto rotation. The 'gator is still a badass chopper tho. Notice the two new us attack and medium lift choppers they're experimenting with are trying dual rotor designs with a pusher prop Edit:I'm an american but I LOVE watching stuff on crazy russian weapons. The problem is that peace and stability aren't very profitable for the huge military-industrial investments that basically every country has. Outright war is less profitable and is avoided, but real peace is what they really want to avoid. Conflict creates profits.

In any war, you can't afford to have less of weapon systems in service. Long ago, countries you have thousands of tanks and jet fighters, now its gone to even the most competent nations in the west struggling to even buy 200 jets and 200 tanks!...Norway used to operate 74 F-16s and had other jets too like the F-5, but now, they even struggle to buy 52 F-35 given their oil wealth!

13:14 This was an Apache, flown by an American pilot during training and miscalculated his altitude. Half the video was edited out here. I watched the actual video and he actually came in, went up, did a 180, half spin and then flew into where you see him crash. The air pressure and volume is lower in the arctic and he didn’t calculate this in his attempt. THIS WAS NOT A RUSSIAN HELICOPTER STRIKE, THIS WAS A US MILITARY ACCIDENT.
