Thanks for inviting Becca on the pod. Really enjoyed this wholesome conversation and the insights on cycling and toxic elements in sports. ... I was also glad to hear you discussing the question if pacers should be considered an influential element to performance - I commented this on the last Long Run Archives and thought a lot about it. But when you came up with the observation, that pacers do indeed influence for example the RPE I also realised, that there is hardly an objective way to measure this. We will never see pacers at cornerstone events like WTMRC Long Trail and that’s fine, but in some regions pacers are an important element of the culture and need not be questioned, I think. … But talking of culture: You mentioning the Black Canyon womens’ podium with all the academic degrees present reminded me, that especially the ultra part of trailrunning can sometimes favour the privilegued, being it wealthy people, who are able to finance the whole endeavour, being it people good at networking and socialising who are able to mobilise a wealth of a support system. You are always at the forefront talking about making marginalised groups visible and making the sport accessible for everybody. Maybe at some time you can reflect a little bit more on this aspect and if trail running is really just a sport for people who later in their lives will play golf or if it is possible to make it accessible for a broader audience in general. I would be very interested in your thoughts on this as you are the experts. … Thanks for all your work!
