A new 68080 Vampire install in my Amiga2000 - LONG VERSION-
ok I could not wait, so i installed it right after the unboxing. this is the LONG version of the install, feel free to skip to 25:00 after booted for comparison or watch all the temperament of a classic Amiga come to life. everything works in this super long video, I do get this all Sorted later, this is more of a learn as i go experience with the vampire, hopefully you can avoid most of my blunder and do yours with more comfort. the boot process was slow because i left the gvp scsi card boot flag set, without it you wont see scsi drives (in the future) the onboard 44 pin requires specific media i didnt own (it dont like sandisk, well mine doesnt) the old Expsys.device format was not very compatible with scsi.device which the vampire uses. your best bet is to use a pc to win32diskimage a copy of CoffinR54 (os3.0 bb4 varient for vampire) however this is my go to , the vampire is awesome, for those who say it isnt a real amiga, well this is a real amiga, your just jealous because you cant afford one.
Purchase your Vampire from amedia-computer here!

A B2000 is a US Amiga 2000.. An A2000 is the original German model that didn't have a Buster chip and was soon replaced by Dave Haynie's B2000, which is the machine we all know and love and is actually based on the Amiga 500, believe it or not ;-) Dave says they dubbed it "B"2000 as the Amiga 500's codename was B52 (Rock Lobster).. The evolution of these models is pretty weird as after the A1000 there was a "fork" regarding design choices. Both the A2000 and A500 are based on the A1000 but the A500 is a pretty different machine than the A2000 as it was a machine designed by Commodore US while the A2000 was designed by Commodore Germany.. This "fork" came back together so to speak with the B2000, which is based on both the A500 and the A2000, which is why for many afficianados the Rev. 4.3 B2000 CR is considered the "Golden Amiga 2000 revision" ;-)

I have 2 - Amiga 1000s...and a number of A500s and finally got hold of an A2000 with an 030...cannot wait to run some classics on this machine. It is still very cool to see the Amiga community is still around and people are still enjoying the hardware and software.

Love it! SAGA is probably Super AGA :-) ----edit Have not watched your whole video yet, but at 40 mins... One thing that Amiga was awesome at and that was (on a CRT monitor/screen/TV) actual displaying every resolution it could display at the same time... I remember Workbench set at 640*256 (16 colors) Deluxe Paint at 320*256 with (AGA 255 colors) and Octamed Soundstudio with 640*256 (at 16 colors) and rendering a Sculpt 3D image with full 700 (something)*500 (something) overscan and I could just draw down or up the screens as I liked... Or just Amiga+M and switch screens instantly... and that was some of the magic, when you had 2 MB of chipram and 4 MB of fastmem (on the Amiga 500+ with ECS chipset) you could pretty much do everything you wanted whenever you wanted... I did work with (not make/create) Windows 3.11 at the time and it was just soo much behind at pretty much everything (if you got a Vesa Local bus gfx card it was faster graphics in someways but the Microsoft OS was just awful in more ways that you can count...) Then came Windows 95 and PCI hardware, and yes it was faster graphics but the OS still sucked hard (AmigaDOS/Workbench could do stuff in 86 that Windows 95 could not dream of)... I remember just adjusting the resolution of the first Windows 95 computer (in the year 95-96) and it needed a restart... then adjusting the TCP/IP adress and it needed a restart... and so on... what ever preference you did it always needed a restart... On my Amiga (at that time A1200 with a 030/882 card) you could display what ever resolution you wanted (that the TV could handle) at any time, you could change everything without a restart except ROM version which was a restart. Even with hard-drives and stuff you could actually just powerswitch off your computer... on Windows 95 that could lead to non starting computer... But anyway, my main "aha" was the small reentrant code of the AmigaOS, and it's incredible (even to this day) multitasking abilities not only with code (without the protection of an MMU) but with graphics... I would really like to try the Vampire (in any form, I still have my A500+ and the A1200 though in pieces) but I really need the graphics (ECS/AGA) to handle what did once and perform as they actually performed... I know that is a hard feat... RTG is one thing and sure I do know the limits and the benefits (I have run UAE with it :-). Ahwell... just drunken rant!

Awesome you got it working but half the fun is Exploring the Possibilities. We all fumble here and there and your not the only one running with the cover off an A2000. I just put mine back on after having it off for 3 weeks but it will come off again once AmigaKit sends my order out they are either wicked fast or wicked slow. I did go to the Vampire Site to see if that 68080 Vampire Board was available for order and I did not see it and had I seen it I would of picked one up myself. I don't know how long you have had your A2000 but I have had mine since the early 1990's I bought it from a friend to run my BBS. I did have a DataFlyer board and when it died I cried because mine supported both IDE and SCSI but I never used the IDE. I still have the DataFlyer board and one day I might be motivated to repair it.

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks Chris. looks like me when I'm exploring something new. Part of the fun is making something work through many retries. I've opted to a TF1260 with my 1200 just to keep it simple. Even then I'll be exploring the IDE connection on the card. Wish I could have a 68080 but TF1260 is more in my practical ballpark. I'm using an LC68060 to see what it can do. At least at at first after I explore more options later.

ok all of you guys talking Amiga and how they are putting mods in makes me want an Amiga with some sort of expansion. So what do you suggest? I was leaning towards an A3000. I had one, my friend sold me when he got married and moved out of state. I didn't know much about setting up one. I know bare minimums. But I want to learn. I do have to say that I have limited space, so for now It is just suggestions.

I haven't one myself instead opted for puffed up A2000's, that said the 3000 is an excellent choice given the native capability and expansion options, they're quite expensive. Here's a helpful overview: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boqze6yQltt0g9k

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Come-on! Pull the agnus, plug in the megachip, connect the wire to the pin on the chip and your good. You were already in there, so it would have taken maybe 3 minutes, LOL! It would have probably taken longer to explain what it is and does than it would take to install it... All good, btw... You're one of the most reliable Amiga video producers on youtube. Love your repair videos, in particular. Would love to see you take on some of the more problematic A3640 boards. They're a challenge...

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration The B2000 is what most Amiga 2000s are. The A2000 was an early big-box model only released in Germany and used the A1000 chipset.
