Episode 8: Building the viaduct

Great work Ken! I also see (from your shirt) that like me, you're a long-distance cyclist! I've ridden the C&O Canal trail a few times when I lived back east. Thanks for sharing your progress. I love Harpers Ferry as a railfanning and historical location. Can't wait to see it all finished!!

Texas, I was wondering if anyone would notice the Seagull Century shirt. That was my 3rd 100+ ride last year. I'm lucky that I can 'ride through' my layouts prototype area occasionally on the C&O. Trying to find someplace on the layout to include the canal, towpath and perhaps me on my gravel bike. It's now riding season so I'll have less time for the layout but I plan to be running trains by Fathers Day. Thanks for the positive comment and please sub if you haven't already. PS: I just got the prints for the backdrops!

That came out really good, I'm really impressed with how clean those arches came out using the Masonite.

Yes, now the challenge is to find and fit the right material to form the underside of arches. I'm really proud of the bridge, tough to make O scale scenery look right to scale. Thanks for watching and welcome aboard!

Its taking shape, you have the patience, the dexterity and imagination, its all coming together. After getting the three loops and a partial backdrop, then plasticville buildings, upgrades in the future, N&W, nerver or when. If and when i ever go the way of something prototypical, i will get a custom builder.

Thanks Guss, I appreciate your positive comments. I've challenged myself to emulate as many prototypical B&O features/scenes as I can on this layout. I will looking for a custom builder for the Harpers Ferry Bollman bridge and the Point of Rocks station. Post a link to your layout.

Hey Ken (Swiv here) looking real good there..Im an HO modeler, bought a ton of stuff lastyear, still in boxes..Always wanted to do a bridge like this and yours is curved, cant wait to see the end result.

Swivet man, good to hear from you. Thanks for the compliment. The whole layout is taking longer than expected partly because I'm trying to model actual locations. I sometimes wish I was building in HO because I wouldn't have to compromise scale as much. Lets chat soon, PM me.

Thanks all for the support. The viaduct was a fun project and will be a hallmark of my layout. I forgot to mention the reason the viaduct is higher than the deck. I will be adding 2" pink foam leading to and away from the bridges. The long awaited backdrops prints should be arriving today. Look for another layout update once I get them mounted.
