I met Barry back in 93 when he was just starting G-Guage railroading. I see he's been very busy as when I last seen his layout it was only outside Garden railroading Not an inside layout as what's there now. He makes everything by casting it in an old paint pod modified by compressed air using drafting math Real Guage down to scale for making the parts in plastics. I believe if I remember right his first custom job was a 2-8-2 #479 as G scale doesn't have that loco in scale for sale, as he was the first to set the bar on building custom G-Scale loco's that weren't available at the time, which known one else was doing it at the time, mainly early 90's. You can find Barry Bogs on a lot of older G-Gauge Garden model railroad TV shows to books as he's Famously known by a lot of Garden Railroaders.

I have always been indoors with both of my G scale layouts. I built three K28's back in the early 90's. One of the 473's ( I built two 473's) went to LGB, in exchange for parts to build additional K series locos. The model was sent to Japan, and Aster built the 22.5 LGB metal model using my model as a guide. The 473 Bee and the 479 plow engine were built about 2005 and I entered them in the Durango 2006 NG convention where the engines took second place in the contest. The Aster models are wonderful engines and run great!

This is like, the platonic ideal of a model railway. It's large scale, it's all custom-built, its visually dynamic and clearly designed to be interesting to look at first and perfectly realistic second despite the enormous attention to detail in the locomotive models. It's what every modeller aspires to deep down, but most are lack the time and resources to achieve. It's truly incredible.

I MIGHT be able to build ONE of those locomotives from scratch in my entire lifetime, and it wouldn't look half that good. He's built 30 of them, plus a whole house-sized layout to run them on. That's absolutely incredible. Barry is a true artist and craftsman in every sense of the word. I hope this gets turned into a museum eventually. Thank you, Barry, for sharing with us.

While the KMs caught my eye the absolutely mind blowing, seemingly insignificant detail that caught my eye was the individual ground/driver lights on the big boy and 484. Those little details are the chefs kiss to an already spectacular model.

Seeing this video, Mark, brought joy to my eyes!!! I’m blown away by the extreme amount of detail in Barry’s masterpiece layout. The interiors of cabs, passenger cars and all that fitted out in ultra-fine detail. I was even noticing lightbulbs on the engine undersides! I kept pausing your video to analyze all this. And seeing your excitement throughout this, Mark, was priceless. The choo choos are works of art so beautiful. I love their large size scale. And then the multi-level set up just blew my mind! Oh and the buildings, all this made me scream. WOW! I’m finding it difficult to fully express how fabulous I think Barry’s layout is. Suffice to say with the level of perfection he has achieved, he is definitely having fun! Many, many thanks to Barry for inviting us to see his magnificent layout. If I ever had the privilege of seeing this in person, I would most certainly loose myself in this! And, as always, many thanks and kudos to you Professor for sharing this experience with us, yet another beautiful field trip! Best and cheers to you and Barry!

I was really happy to see the K-28's make appearances, as they're my favorite locomotive, but it's really nice to see more bigger engines like the L-131 and the L-77. Models like Big Boy and 844 are always nice to see, but more unknown engines are even better. Also, great narration.

@barry42mmr
@barry42mmr 2 ай бұрын
@@TGCourt Thank you for your kind words about my layout! I do hope this video visit will inspire others to try scratch building large scale models. I use O scale models as my 3D plan for what ever I want to build. I measure the O scale model and multiply by 2.14 to get to the G scale size that I need to make the part for. If there is no O scale model available, I have used a highly detailed HO model and then multiply by 3.85 to get to G scale. When I started in G scale back in 1987, I though of G scale as HO, only bigger. I was so afraid that folks would laugh at my work, because most G scale is just toy trains around the Christmas tree. With that said, everything that I build has to be to scale and operational, or I do not build it. The Big Boy is one inch less in length than six feet with the tender. The passenger cars behind it are 45 inches long. It all has to run on a five foot radius curve, even though it looks stupid doing it. In the end, it is what I wanted. That is one of the joys of model railroading, because you can do what you want, how you want it done, and in what time frame. It's all fun! Thanks, Barry

This is where Barry placed the Lobato trestle you see in the video. Barry has basically taken over the upper floor for his layout. There are those who enjoy the hobby of Model Railroading...and then there are those who enjoy the HOBBY of Model Railroading!! Most impressive! Honestly, the closest I've gotten to custom building anything was entertaining the idea of using CAD to make bits and pieces of the D&RG class 47/D&RGW Class T-12 for the criminally under-served HOn3 scale...

Don't know if you've been watching Blondiehacks but she has gradually been machining and building her Pennsylvania A3 Switcher steam locomotive and tender. Although this made me smile from ear to ear, this layout and everything is amazing!😮
