Another video about bees, contemplating why they don’t act like we think they should LOL.

Hehe 😄There's a talk by Michael Bush somewhere on the net. He added dry sugar and his bees threw it out, so he added water to some of it till they realised that it was something that they could use. Found it :- Michael Bush, Lazy Beekeeping Shenandoah Valley Beekeepers (at 1:1:15) 🙂

It sounds like he did something that the Bees agreed was right. I would love to do that more often.😁

Here in Texas the bees were flying also, temp in upper 40. My topbar hives were the most active. Worries me because next week highs in low 30 and ice storm headed this way

I’m also concerned our weather in Southern Illinois it’s been up and down so much so far this winter. I don’t believe our weather patterns are helping the bees.

4 lbs is alot. I make damp sugar and press it in cupcake tin. When dry and hard I will slide in 2 under the brood combs (main cluster) of my top bar hives and put 2-3 on the inner cover hole of my lang hives. I replace as needed. I quit putting anything but plain water in it a couple years ago.

Very good advice. I usually do it plain too, but I watched KZbin videos lol. Supposedly this recipe with vinegar in someway helped the bees?? I was trying it just to see if they would eat one over the other. Two of my hives were throwing some of it out. The other two are not. Have you ever noticed Bees carrying out the sugar?

@@simplytopbarbeekeeping2107 Anytime I put dry sugar in a tray, they carried it out. When I dampened it and pressed it down to make a brick like they didnt. It would get moisture in it and they would consume it. But I always added more small pieces to absorb the water in the tray so they wouldn't get stuck in it

apple cider vinegar...why not try a bit of sherry?

That would probably taste better and maybe even help keep them warm.👍
