Maybe a way to catch bees in your apiary before they leave to find another home.

Rough cut lumber is the best smell for bees just dip the 1 inch of the end in wax and add the scent and you will attract them. Also adding a little bit of propolis to the top of the wood attracts them.

I have two scions like that in my yard. You should have something to attract them. I have wax, slum-gum, and a small piece of TempQueen on mine.

@@simplytopbarbeekeeping2107 I had two absconds land in my swarm traps. They didn't stop at the scions but you can't be there all the time. I had a colony move that I messed up and the confused bees found the scion. When I move a hive I leave a scion in that location to catch the returning bees. It was helpful for me. Slum-gum is the strainings when rendering wax from brood comb.

That also looks like a bird feeder. You could use it as such, then if it never attracts bees, you still got use from it :)

@@bradbrown2168 because of the warm weather we’ve had in last half of February, and until recently, it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t see a swarm maybe in the last week of March. Just seems like we’re having a real early beginning this year.
