She consistently makes me feel represented, understood, and accepted by people who were not a part of that culture because time again she has shown the ability to explain it to them in a way that they can understand, rather than be fearful of. Throwback to when someone wrote a fan fiction about me and my TEACHER when I was *very much underage* & would UPDATE it daily, like if we had a test they would write about it the next day in their “chapter updates”, or like if we had a seating assignment change they would IN DETAIL say who was sitting around me, stuff like that. It got so bad I got pulled into the principal office, had my phone & wattpad/any writing app searched, the teacher got put on temporary leave, & a full investigation went on to figure out who wrote it. When they finally figured out who it was, I got an apology because everyone genuinely believed I was writing it, & the teacher had to transfer schools because his reputation was tarnished with parents (even though he had no correlation with anything & genuinely was a great teacher). The kid got charged with stalking & some other things for writing about underage relationships. We were literally in 6th grade.

When signing up you say what fandoms/characters/relationships you'd be willing to write about, and which ones you'd like to receive a fic written about, and based on that the people organizing the event link you together with someone else. You write someone a fic based on what they asked for, and you'll receive one back based on your own requests. These events can be anywhere from 4 people within the same fandom space to hundreds and even thousands of people across multipe fandoms. (which have to use algorithms to find matches) and the requests can be as vague as fandoms and characters alone all the way up to specific plot details you want included.

I've never felt so seen as I do rn watching this episode I've been reading fanfiction since I was like 13 and I'm 21 now. I've seen all type of questionable fanfics but like even since then I was always uncomfortable reading fanfics about real people bc I feel there's like consent missing. It's so bad when you see some people write sexual fanfics about minors (both real and fictional) without aging them up or even stories of sexual assault that aren't done with respect. There's no rules when it comes to fanfics so yeah it definitely has its dark sides.
