honestly, this song is so sad. so many bands from this scene talk about how they want to die and how depression makes them suicidal but a man who writes a song knowing he is going to die is something that makes this an incredibly sad and emotional band. ever since Tom died a new meaning came to every song they ever wrote.

Stage 4 melanoma (a sickness with no remedy), your white blood cells are the final line of defence to defeat the cancer (except the ones inside of me). He went into this album knowing this was going to be his last. His swan song, momento mori has definitely made me more mindful of death. My goodness. Tom you were/are a fucking legend, no one in this industry could ever replace you nor top your works, status and strength as an artist. Your guitar work has inspired me since "Ruin" and having found out years before that you write most of the lyrics on the songs we now know as the classics of Architects, your words have deeply touched and changed my life (donating to sea shepherd, awareness of animal rights, being more empathetic, writing better riffs) and I will always be eternally grateful for that. Rest in peace, wish I could have sat down and had a chat with you mate

Cameron Little It's pretty much the most deadly cancer. Gotta catch it so early on. Later on it spreads so quickly until u got tumors all over. Sadly watched my mother pass away from melanoma in 1999. So sad to hear. He was very young. Just recently got into Architects, only to see in comments that Tom passed. Fuck cancer!

Same man, I only recently got into Architects, this is only the third song I've heard from them. Then, reading the comments for this song, I learned that the guitarist fucking died...fuck cancer man. But then I was confused. I had thought it was the singer that died, but it was the guitarist. So who is singing the sing, Tom Searle, or Sam Carter? Did Sam write this song for Tom, or...what?
@Jimbovian
@Jimbovian 8 жыл бұрын
Tenebrarum Domini Tom (guitarist) wrote pretty much everything for the band, including the majority of the lyrics. Sam is the vocalist, I think the he writes a few lyrics here and there but most of it was down to Tom. Tom is the one who passed away.

I cant agree more. I was so amazed by that record when i first listend to it. It was incredible. But i was always wondering why it had such a melancholic taste (not in a bad way though). And as i was re-listening to the album after Tom had passed away it hit me so hard. I mean, music is my life. Im having hard times in my life with a heavy chronic desease (luckily ist treatable) and depression. And music is what keeps my head up. So im listeing to a lot of stuff every day. But i've never had a record hitting me so close to home. It feels like a diary of a dying person. It almost has every of the 5 phases of dying. Anger - Nihilist Gravity - Bargaining Gone with the Wind - Depression Memento Mori - Acceptance I believe no one who hasnt suffered from anything like that will be able to tell what he went through. But this record will give you at least a "good" taste of it. This is what music for me is all about. And cant express enough how much i love that record and how much it means to me. (Which is also the reason why im going to get a tattoo of it this year.)

+Ziad Jamal lol I've been a long time fan and honestly, I think Daybreaker was their best. Perfect balance between clean and harsh vocals, riffs and breakdowns. Don't get me wrong, I like where the band is going creatively now, but it seems like the LF//LF era of Architects is bringing way too many chugs into the band's sound (which have always been unnecessary given the artistic geniuses Architects are). This new single sounds much better than the last one, even though I have a feeling this is gonna be LF//LT vol. 2, thus being a polished chug factory-very powerful, but not Daybreaker grabyoufromthehair-good. Each to their own I guess.

I know this is an old comment but i recently listened to a podcast with Dan Searle (his brother) who taked about the time before Toms passing. It honestly seemed like he faught till the end and kept a remarkable positive mindset. He meditated up to 5 hours a day and even played Rock am RIng and Rock im Park while being incredibly fatigued due to his late stage cancer. He even joked to his nurses about them taking pictures for his tinder profile while at the hospital, when he kinda knew how bad things are. Not saying it was all fun and games but this man really had an incredible way of dealing with the circumstances. RIP Tom you fucking legend

Instant goosebumps. My skin crawled. Absolutely beautiful writing. Completely unrivaled. Rest in peace, Tom.

Recently lost one of my closest friends. Shortly before he passed I'd sent him this song to listen to and he agreed it was a banger. We spoke about the lyrics in the song etc, marvelling at how well-written the song is, he had a thing for analysing deeper meanings in stuff. My grandma just passed from lung and bone cancer. Her last days of trying to breathe was hard for us to watch, her breathing was burning calories and it burned her out bad, even just speaking made her weak. The very last day she couldnt talk at all and we gave her water with a sponge, she couldn't hold her head up. Was so heartbreaking. But she did spend her last days talking to god and repentance. When she left I over came with happiness it was so weird but the next days I couldnt believe the woman who raised me was gone. When I found out she had cancer this song came to me and she is the first in my family to have cancer and it shocked us all. Cancer was actually real in front of me. Now I try and pray for those who have it and born with it. Life sucks but I'm thankful.

Unreal to think that though the last 3 years; all the shows, all the appearances, all the music videos, Tom knew how ill he was, and continued to do what he loved while maintaining a smile and making himself seem as well as possible. Oh. Oh dear god, I see Tom in every word on this whole album, in every white space between the lines, I can hear his thoughts, his mind talking to us. It is so weird knowing that all these lyrics are words of a dying man who knew exactly what was going to happen to him. Rest in peace, my wonderful friend. My friend introduced me to architects a few months ago, and when I heard this specific song I damn near lost it, I immediately related to this song looking back at when I was diagnosed with cancer. It pushed me to my limits physically and mentally. I did research into this song after listening to it and saw how it was wrote, who wrote it, and actually lost it. I saw Tom passed away August 21st, 2016, I found out I had cancer 4 days after which happened to be my birthday as well I had just turned 19. Almost a year later and a lot of chemo and my cancer was gone. But just living with something that can take you from this world so easily makes you learn to accept harsh realities, ones that carry on afterwards. I just feel like the last 6 1/2 years I’ve been alive has just been borrowed time.

Ok here me out. As someone who has struggled with mental health his whole life, and been pushed to the edge by it, this song really hits home, even if that's not the original meaning of the song. "I take a leap of faith, but I lose my nerve, in the end I'll get the hell that I deserve" : Trying to break through those barriers in your head, but coming up short, and feeling even emptier "A sickness with no remedy, except the ones inside of me" : Knowing at the end of the day, it's your own self that can beat your demons "If I could silence all the doubt in me, except that what is meant to be" : Understanding the need to not be broken by what you can't control. I just wanted to share this thought with everyone.

Consistent with the sound on their last album(s) yet still showing progression and growth. Maintaining heaviness whilst adding powerful, melodic parts. Architects is truly a band that continues to rise from the ashes of a burned out genre. Sam's voice is out of this world, and I don't even think we've seen the true extent of what he can do. The lyrics are nothing short of poetic. The instruments are not out-shined by his voice; rather, they complement it and add their own flavor to the overall song in a beautiful balance. And let's not forget the iconic blegh that defines them. A solid 10/10 for this one.

This hit so much heavier after I realized the familiarity of the lines of "labyrinth with no escape" and "to keep myself under lock and key" points to remaining inside the Pandora's box, because the last to come out of the Pandora's box is Hope. Pandora's box is metaphorically something that you will leave unopened so that the last remaining Hope would not escape amidst the unexpectable problems and troubles that the box contains, and in this song, that unexpectable trouble is inevitable death from sickness. You've locked yourself in the Pandora's box to hold on to that Hope, so now your "Hope is a prison." I got chills down my spine.

Lyrics: The weight of the world is resting on thin ice When the surface breaks will I find paradise? As I freeze to death, left to reflect What a waste of time I was, in retrospect I'd take a leap of faith, but I'd lose my nerve In the end, I'll get the hell that I deserve I'm always gone with the wind Crawling in and out of my mind God knows, I lost all my faith A sickness with no remedy, except the ones inside of me You ever wonder how deep you can sink into nothing at all? Disintegrate Annihilate me Do you remember when you said to me "My friend, hope is a prison." Hope is a prison Of all the patterns that I could create, I built a labyrinth with no escape To keep my 'self' under lock and key I am my own worst enemy I'd take a leap of faith, but I'd lose my nerve In the end, I'll get the hell that I deserve I'm always gone with the wind Crawling in and out of my mind God knows, I lost all my faith A sickness with no remedy, except the ones inside of me You ever wonder how deep you can sink into nothing at all? Disintegrate Annihilate me A sickness with no remedy, except the ones inside of me You ever wonder how deep you can sink into nothing at all? Disintegrate Annihilate me If I could silence all the doubt in me Accept that what is meant to be (Is meant to be) You ever wonder how deep you can sink into nothing at all? Disintegrate Annihilate me Do you remember when you said to me "My friend, hope is a prison."

+Nick Luciano Totally agree. Fortunately it seems like Architects has really exploded in terms of exposure and popularity since LF/LT. I remember seeing them live only about 2 years ago (right before LF/LT was released) and they were playing a tiny club in Ottawa as an opening act for PTH. As much as I love PTH (it's a requirement for Canadian metal fans), Architects had BY FAR the best set. Really hope this album takes them to the next level and gives them exposure they truly deserve. Such a refreshing band in a genre thats become so stale.
