People tend to forget that screaming is an "emotion". You don't only scream out in anger. Its just sad when people do not realise that. This kind of music has a lot more meaning and has helped so many more people than any pop song ever could.

Screaming is the only way to express a certain type of pain. The pain where you hurt so bad and you are so angry at the feeling of constantly feeling broken and worthless but feeling trapped without any way to change things. People hear the scream and don't listen to the words and fail to understand songs like this with heavy screams are some of the most emotional songs you will ever hear.

ik you put it in quotes, but screaming is absolutely not an emotion; screaming comes as a result of certain emotions you feel. and you don’t know what any pop song has or has not done for someone. stop judging just because you feel judged about your taste in music

Bro... listening to this years after really brings back memories. I used to feel so broken, I used to cut myself, I went to counselling, I had no one who’d hug me. I’m 21 now, moved out of home at 18, I’m so much fuckin better, I love my life. You guys will get through this. Edit. This song hits different now that my brother passed away from OD a month ago. There’s always something different going wrong aye. I think I’ve hit rock bottom first time in a while.

I get this song now. In the beginning he talks about his addiction to drugs. The hospital for souls is the REHAB he went into. The lyrics throughout are the conversations he had with this doctor. did you ever slit your wrists? have you been skipping meals? were going to try something new today..how does that make you feel? interesting and he doesn't want them to leave him there to burn

Lyrics And then I found out how hard it is to really change Even hell can get comfy once you've settled in I just wanted the numb inside me to leave No matter how fucked you get The sun will return and you come back down! The funny thing is all I ever wanted I already had There's glimpses of heaven in every day In the friends that I have, the music I made The love that I feel, I just had to start again The days are a death wish A witch hunt for an exit I am powerless The fragile, the broken Sit in circles and stay unspoken We are powerless Because we all walk alone on an empty staircase Idle in the halls and nameless faces I am powerless Everybody wants to go to heaven But nobody wants to die I can fear death no longer I've died a thousand times A wasteful universe And we don't know our soul was Emptiness inside our heads But no one dares to dwell Throw me to the flames Watch me burn Set my world ablaze Watch me burn How are we on a scale of one to ten? You can tell me, what do you say? Do you wanna talk about it? How does that make you feel? Have you ever took a blade to your wrists Have you've been skipping meals We're gonna try something new today How does that make you feel? Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me In this hospital for souls Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me In this hospital for souls Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me Hold me close, don't let go, watch me In this hospital for souls Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn Hold me close, tell me go, watch me burn Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn In this hospital for souls Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn Hold me close, tell me go, watch me burn Hold me close, don't let go, watch me burn In this hospital for souls

the part of this song that ALWAYS brings me to tears is the "how are we on a scale of one to ten? could you tell me what you see? do you wanna talk about it? how does that make you feel?" personally, every time i hear this, i can't help but hear the sarcasm of these lyrics. maybe it's just me, but when i was going through therapy, when i was feeling less than human because of my depression, these are questions i was asked frequently. but these are questions that will never have a definitive answer. i could never accurately explain how i felt, nor could i even hope to make anyone understand why i felt the way i did. it's hard to make someone understand your depression, your anxiety, your thoughts, when they haven't experienced it themselves. and while this song brings back so many shitty memories, it is my favorite -- it is beautiful. because it's a reminder that i'm not alone.
@stvltiloqvent10 жыл бұрын

This randomly came on in my playlist 8 years after I first discovered them, and the lyrics dug up a lot of old painful memories. I'm not exactly sad or anything, just emotional over the fact that the worst of it all is finally over, but also grieving how much my poor younger self had to suffer. When he sings "hold me close, don't let go", it makes me want to picture myself embracing my younger self, since I had to pull through every single major life problem completely on my own and I'm finally the adult I wish I could've had for support. This really struck a chord in me and has me in tears. Although life is still hard, especially during this awful pandemic, I still am grateful to have finally found at least some peace in my life after the rollercoaster I've been through, and I hope everyone else does too.

He's pouring his heart out in the lyrics, you can feel it. I'm not going to go real deep into my life because that's just something I don't do, but I was abused (physically and emotionally) by my mother for 13 years. I've got scars inside and out. Everyone thinks I hold up pretty well because when people meet me they have no idea. They think I'm fine and I've got my crap together, but in reality, inside I'm crumbling. My dad and stepmom have no idea. They have no idea I have certain habits either. But seeing all these comments and listening carefully to this song inspired me. Everyone out there is going through something, and if anyone ever needs anything... I'm here.

If all you hear is screaming, then you’re allowing your biases to get into the way of the real message the artist is trying to convey. Metal may not be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine. But it doesn’t mean it’s talentless and pointless screaming with no substance . Everyone has a story to tell. I love bring me the horizon. Music has pulled me through the death of my brother, it helped me get through my suicidal thoughts after my brother died, it helped me collect myself until I was able to stay sober long enough to get my life together and it continues to help me battle issues when everyone else said that they’d be there for me had left. Music has made me actually realize 2 things. I can’t live without it. And it will help carry me and others. And that’s why music is beautiful. It doesn’t matter if you like rock or not. Music is about finding what moves you

The best thing about coming back to this song for the first time in three years is realizing how much better everything has gotten than how it was when I resonated with this song. For a while when I was in between mostly-okay and not-great-at-all, I refused to listen to this song because of how much it hurt to relate to. But I'm glad to say things have gotten much better, and if anyone feels like things won't, they will, sooner or later. Just be patient, and keep trying. On days you're too tired to try, just know you're still good enough and it's okay to take days to rest. Life is stressful for everyone, and theres nothing wrong with needing a break from the world. Breaks are hard to find, I know, but even finding 10 minutes on a day to shift your mindset to that of something a little more uplifting, your outlook on life will follow. If worrying about the future is what stresses you out the most, try not to worry about what you cant control now, and pick a smaller task. Simply focus on trying to make today at least a little better than yesterday, if that's all you can do.

Just one year ago, my field of perception was so small that I couldn’t see anything getting better in the future. It was like standing in an open field surrounded by fog. No hope in sight. Instead of giving up, I just waited it out. I didn’t do any inspirational shit, I just let things fall into place. In just one year, the fog has cleared and I’m able to see life differently. I guess what I’m trying to say is that nothing lasts forever, and it’s always rewarding to look back and thank yourself for continuing to live despite the hardships you may go through.

When I first heard this song, it didn't touch me the way I guess it was supposed to. I mean, it touched me. The song, the lyrics, how the lyrics are strangely poetic and simple, but deep. The first part of the song is obvious. "The fragile, the broken, sit in circles and stay unspoken. We are powerless." I guess that this would represent how someone can be depressed and be surrounded by people like their own, how they can be near people yet still be so desperately lonely. Then the line, "Because we all walk alone on an empty staircase, silent halls and nameless faces". People who are depressed just feel blank. We don't feel the wind. We don't taste food. It's more than sadness. It's a numb that takes over you and eats away at your soul. When we walk through school, we don't hear people. We don't see their faces. So this line, I suppose, is only obvious. But it's those lines that's near the very climax of the song that get's to me. "How are we on a scale of one to ten? Can you tell me what you see? Do you want to talk about it? How does that make you feel? Have you ever taken a blade to your wrists? Have you been skipping meals? We're gonna try something new today, how does that make you feel?" I mean, I guess that for some people, they'd take it as Oliver legitimately asking them questions to make them feel better. But I thought-Oli's oughtta be a little bit more darker than that. He always has been. Particularly in such an emotional song. Having been in a hospital, those lines sound like things that the doctors in white ask you after you wake up from losing too much blood from the slits in your wrist. They're too professional. Too clean cut. "Have you ever taken a blade to your wrists? Have you been skipping meals?" And, particularly- "We're gonna try something new today, how does that make you feel?" I remember being asked those questions in the hospital, not necessarily in the sentence said in this song, but it makes me sort of realize just to what extent Oliver's mind goes. I like BMTH for the way they portray their songs, like a musical picture in front of you-but also very dark, twisted. Oliver stating those lines can awaken the memory of being in the hospital for any kid who's been that far, and it's this strange, dark touch, like "Hey, kid. I know who fuckish they are. You'll get through this." It's coming from a depressed persons perspective, how everything just makes you wanna crumple to pieces, how you just don't know what to do anymore-that awful hopelessness. Lines that sound one way to one person, and another way to another-that is poetry. It targets certain people and leaves the others with wide theories and imaginations. So yeah XD

I listened to this song, and it gave me something to feel, cause that was something I didn't really have much anymore. It made me want to get better. I can happily say I am now holding down a job, and I have the most amazing people in my life. So, if you are just like me, and you aren't so good right now, I know you probably hear it all the time, because I did too, but it does get better. I'm not saying its completely gone, but I am so much better now. We all have purpose.

Holy shit. I only Just discovered this song and the lyrics. I have never found a song by BMTH (or most other bands) that I can connect with on such a deep level other than Sleepwalking. I remember when I thought BMTH was another generic Deathcore band. I was so wrong. How are we on a scale of one to ten? Could you tell me what you see? Do you wanna talk about it? How does that make you feel?

For me. The most intense songs on Sempiternal are Sleepwalking and Hospital for Souls

Arsène Fox No, the mood of the song and the fact that the lyrics can be interpreted in multiple ways in which I can connect with is why I love this song. As far as I am concerned, this songs meaning can just be as general as trying to recover from a trauma or mental complication that is severing your connection from the world around you. Being left with the wreckage of your past and searching desperately for a way out of it. I know Oli wrote it about overcoming drug addiction, but a lot of the lyrics on this album can just as easily be related to struggles with PTSD, anxiety, depression, trauma, guilt, shame, personal morals, and coming to terms with what you believe (i.e religion or spirituality). Funnily enough, drug addiction usually causes a wealth of mental complications anyway. So the words he writes are directly interchangeable to the same things I can connect with. Same results, just a different cause or means to reach them. I hope I made sense.

I think the lyrics are pretty bad, but that's a good interpretation of therapy
