Most people don't think it is possible to avoid hip replacement surgery because it doesn't happen very much.
Most of the time, once someone is diagnosed with hip osteoarthritis, they're told that it's just a matter of time before they need to have surgery to have the hip joint replaced.
But just because not many people get to avoid surgery doesn't mean it's not possible.
Could it be that the healthcare industry just has it wrong?
In this video, Dr. David answers the question, "Is it really possible to avoid hip joint replacement surgery?"

I was scheduled for hip replacement surgery last April. I was in a fair amount of pain where i couldn't walk up any hills at all. Our local medical center told me BOTH my hips were "Trashed" even though the right side never bothered me. I went on a semi keto diet, low carbs and very low sugar. Kept walking and lost 35 lbs in 6 mos. I walk every day now hills included for 30 -60 minutes mostly pain free. It' can be done!

I was scheduled to have hip surgery this month and then canceled it. Id so much rather heal naturally then go through a painful, invasive surgery where so much can go wrong! Unfortunately my company also went under in May so I camt afford the program either. I'll keep watching these videos though and implementing as much as I can! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with those of us who struggle with painf hips every day!

I’ve had two replacements, which went well but oldest one breaking down (2006). Doing these exercises is helping keep strong 👍 Mild polio at 12 affected the muscle imbalance and drs often not even aware then of muscle imbalances! It takes work daily to stay strong but a privilege to be able to exercise 😃. Thank you, David, for your explanations and instructions !

I enjoyed using his program over the past several months when although it did make me feel stronger and in less pain, The arthritis was too far gone and the range of motion was severely affected thus I had a hip replacement last week and I'm having the second 1 in 2 months. I'm telling you it has been the most torturous pain ever so whatever you can do to avoid surgery you should absolutely try it I wish I had found the program sooner.

I have hip arthritis that is so painful I can barely sleep at night. One thing that seems to help is lying on my back and relaxing while my partner lifts my leg and gently pulls towards her, then turns foot left and pulls again, then right and pulls again. Definitely releases the pain for a short time. Thanks for your positive videos definitely needed.

Question I have avascular necrosis of the left hip. Is total hip replacement the only option? I have left knee & shin pain, also low back problems & scolosis. I have trouble sleeping because of the pain - sometimes the knee pain is worse than the hip pain. I did physical therapy for my hip & back which did help a bit.

If you feel like the exercises have helped we would recommend looking into the Hip Arthritis Recovery Program. You can access it here: “Hip Arthritis Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We hope you found this information helpful. We wish you all the best in your road to recovery!

I am in the UK and according to the general thinking of the NHS will be having a hip replacement op. I always felt that the cause was a failure of the core muscles following a hysterectomy 10 years ago. I subsequently suffered a hernia and needed repair. Over the ten period the arthritis in my right hip progressed. I have been using your recovery exercises and attending a Pilates rehab unit which has been most helpful. I use some pain relief but try to limit it. I think your approach to hip arthritis is innovative and should be part of treatment here. If I have the hip replacement for my right hip, I'll try very hard to make sure it's the only one I have. My symptoms have been a long time developing and I thought it was inevitable as my mother had both hips replaced over a 10 year period. She had contracted Polio in her late 20s. I am glad to see that there can be natueal recovery, although it may be a little late for my right hip. I do try to implement the glute squeezes when walking but find that the right side is hampered by the joint and possibly my hip flexors, which are very tight. I lie on the floor at thr end of each day to straighten up!
