In severe pain but explained to a doctor that my neck muscles were sore & he told me I need a spine doctor, that neck & shoulder muscles don’t work together as a group. Needless to say, I insisted on getting a new doctor. Not sure why I feel numb from my elbow down to my fingertips at times too but there is something nasty going on in my shoulder & bicep area.
@Accipiter223 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for this...most videos don't mention that impingement & tendonitis can also have some of the similar symptoms as a tear (stiff when you wake up, etc). I was confused because after watching those other videos I matched with some of the symptoms of a tear, but I feel no pain when just sitting around, I can lift my arm pain-free 90% of the time, and have no pain at the top of the shoulder where the bone ends, etc. I was also baffled because there was a specific spot on the front of my delt, down pretty low, near the tie-in with the pec where it hurts most. I also wasn't experiencing weakness; I still bench pressed two more times since the onset of the pain (not a smart idea in retrospect), and though it was painful my strength wasn't reduced. It was frustrating trying to figure out what was going on, but after watching this video my symptoms sound EXACTLY like shoulder tendonitis. Thank you so much, I can watch the other videos you have now for some rehab ideas (along with laying off benching for a couple weeks obviously).

Hey everybody, Wow, thank you so much for the information. In retrospect, impingement is something I've been dealing with for years. I've always had what feels like a tendon or bone rubbing against another tendon or bone in my shoulder. I had always just assumed that was my anatomy and learned to live with it without much pain or discomfort by avoiding movements that caused those bones or tendons to rub on each other. Over the past year I have really dedicated my time to fixing my shoulders, repairing damage, and strengthening the muscles. By doing so I realized I can restructure the joint and that rubbing of tissue on each other happens less and less. Now that I have seen your video, and others on KZbin, I think I finally understand what is going on. All the symptoms of impingement are what I have been dealing with for years. I wanted to leave this comment to thank you for the content, and let others know that it can get better. I am not 100 percent restructured, but I am able to do most movements and activities without pain. If I feel pain I avoid those movements and try to figure out ways to mobilize my joints in that range, so that I can do it without pain. This mobilization is a combination of stretching, strengthening, and ballistic stretching that has made my joint stronger and more flexible. I theorize the reason I have impingement is from decades of improper strength training without focusing much on mobility and flexibility. Our bodies will adapt over time to the demands we place in them, and as a Calisthenics guy and rock climber, I have placed crazy demands in my shoulders. However, this is also great news! Because just like my body adapted in a dysfunctional way, it can be restructured and damage can be reversed. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos doc, so I can add more tools to my repertoire. So to anyone struggling you can get better, but depending on the severity of the impingement it is going to take work on your part to get there. But! You can do it! I have faith in you 🎉

You can access it here: "Neck & Shoulder Pain Help" kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1mbR1jLbsUrgCzvlaLTxGnJ0 Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We hope you found this information helpful to you. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

Thanks for the explanation between the shoulder issues. I want to say that I have shoulder tendonitis in the front part of my right deltoid, but still have full-motion, and am still able to move my arm in a throwing motion. I also think the cause is a combination of pull-ups and bad posture when using a mouse in front of the PC.
@ACNPCC Жыл бұрын
Dealing with the same exact issue right now. How has your recovery process been and how long did it take to recover
@snakeeyez8955 Жыл бұрын
@@ACNPCC I can't remember the exact number, but I want to say roughly 3 to 5 months. I had bad shoulder impingement which was probably the cause of my shoulder tendonitis. I'm not at a hundred-percent; got a bit of pain when reaching my arm behind my back, but I can at least do overhead exercises again. Just have to be careful and to do them sparingly. If you exercise, I highly recommend not doing any overhead exercises where you raise your arms up into the air like pull-ups or shoulder presses until the pain has subsided. Ease up on doing dips too because it affect your shoulders. If you use a mouse a lot, it helps to use the mouse at a level where you can maintain your arm at a 90-degree angle without lifting your whole arm upwards to move the mouse.

I think this is why my golf back swing caused my shoulder impingement. I wasn’t following the rule of the hand in my backswing. My backswing had limited scapular movement. When I started using the rule of the hand and letting my left scapula get more involved, not only did I hit the ball more powerfully and accurately I also became injury free in my left shoulder. I have never seen any golf instructor emphasize this move. I don’t think they know how important this motion is. Thank you!

This is an absolutely fantastic video. I'm a poster child for shoulder injury and progression of symptoms, pretty much spot on to what you mention. Rotator cuff, labrum and biceps tear back in 2006 with surgery in 2007. For the most part got considerably better for years, but I've continued to play throwing sports (as best I can) with moderate success (I'd say 80% back to original at one point), but in recent years the shoulder is going downhill with arthritis and a quick sharp momentary pain only when I try to throw hard. Could throw soft toss all day without pain. Man does this annoy the heck out of me. I don't want to give up sports, even at age 55. Anyhow, this is a superb video for anyone wanting more shoulder information. Trust me, I know. On a final note, NEVER GIVE UP!!! :)

Thank you for this. Extremely helpful. Went to a GP and they couldn’t tell me much. My range of motion is limited in my shoulder if I’m physically trying to move it, but if it’s relaxed and someone moves it for me, it has nearly full range of motion (with pain.) I think that means I don’t have a tear and it’s just impingement. Time for some PT.

You're the man! Hats off! One thing I find hard to understand is that despite having a high-degree partial tear, I've never lost motion, and it did hurt a lot during sleep for 2 weeks and the pain went away nit then it came back 6 months later even when I'm at rest and at night and now it's gone away again. I have been suffering since Easter Sunday. Long story short I was drug by my left arm by my truck. I have been told its tendinitis, torn rotator cuff and frozen shoulder! I went for an MRI but was unable due to a panic attack. I have been through PT for two + months, I do my exercises at home, have even bought balls, do cane stretch and have recently bought an over the door pulley pull. I still can't put my hair up, my arm behind my back or carry weighty objects! I can't sleep at night and have pain constantly, even at rest! I'm at my wit's end!!

Wow that was informative. I’m bricking it over surgery because I once nearly died in the operating theatre and now just don’t like the thought of it. So it’s reassuring that potentially I can solve my shoulder with therapy. I’ve had mobility issues for about 3 months now, well, 2-3 months. Shoulder flexion (with pronated wrist), abduction and horizontal extension all cause a degree of pain and it’s often worse in the morning or sometimes in the middle of the night. Feels like it’s impinged but more symptoms of tear. Definitely will look at your video on therapy ideas. Great content.

Good video. I have been dealing with rotator cuff tear for over a year and no reduction in pain. I had frozen shoulder initially, but got worse. I couldn't move. I have pain daily and haven't found any medications that really make a difference. I just need my shoulder fixed. I have tried physical therapy and other interventions. I still have days I cannot do range of motion, or function through the pain. I have seen multiple doctors. I wish I PT exercises and other interventions would have helped. Injections did nothing either.

thank you! I have gone to many KZbin resources about my shoulder pain that has grown progressively worse over the years, and most of them are marketing tools, or resumes. I did find a different source earlier that gave a really good technical detailed breakdown that I enjoyed and left me feeling good. you took that a step further with describing the symptoms specifically. especially when you described pinpoint versus diffuse pain. I am a veteran with a lot of service and wartime injuries, but none of them combat, so they are not covered buy VA. nor have I been able to afford insurance for years. (btw: being such a veteran from Obamacare coverage) I have been very worried as I regularly use my arms, that I am tearing something more and more every night and every time I use my arms. I can now move forward knowing that all I have to do is muscle through the pain and not worry about being in continuous pain with a useless arm... further, I've been able to find lots of good physical therapy exercises. thank you very much

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy I can't believe that I got a respond from you Dr. David. Thank you for sharing this playlist with me. A week ago I met up with one of the gym trainers from my university. I explained to him the way my shoulder feels after and/or during workout. He told me that I should consider some ball rolling exercises on the spot where I feel the pain. Also he advised me to stretch my chest (and not my back) muscles every day. He told me that my shoulder problem is caused by kind of inflammation and he also mentioned something called calcification. He told me that by doing the ball rolling exercises and the stretches every day the pain should be relieved after couple of weeks or months. Hi Dr. David, I have a question for you if you don't mind answering it. In your professional expert opinion and experience, would it be okay to train with weights for my healthy left shoulder and arm? It's my understanding that training the unaffected shoulder and arm will provide a beneficial indirect neurological stimulation for the damaged or other shoulder/arm area and give me some upper body weightlifting activity. Examples are a one arm DB row, a one arm DB shoulder press, a one arm side lateral raise and a one arm DB hammer or drag curl and a one arm triceps extension performed with light weights of course and not to muscular failure. @@epmanualphysicaltherapy

New subscriber. I just want to point out how much you helped me as I had some recent debilitating pain in my shoulder that kept me up at night. I even stayed up for 48 hours because of the level of compression pain I was feeling - out of this world! Sleeping was out of the question! Desperate, I went on youtube and saw your videos on how to alleviate that pressure and it gave me a break from the sweat and frustration I had built up by then (5 am). My only remorse is that you aren't in my area (Cali) and so far, every doctor I've gone to has completely disregarded the aches and pains and treatment that I learned from you (everything to the information regarding partial/full thickness tears that are really only seen by MRI scans, which can also go missed). They would give me the "deer in the headlights" look when I discussed the major points of your videos as you do in your videos. Thank you so much for you knowledge and expertise! You are truly a dedicated and compassionate health care professional and I sincerely wish they were all like you; passionate, dedicated, and incredibly competent. I've had x-rays taken and a crap ton of prescription inflammatory pills and muscle relaxers even topical creams. But I won't stop bothering them until I get a damn MRI so I can get this treated with a PT ASAP! Doing God's work! Thank you!
