I would love to know what took her towards using a semi conductor mirror. instead of the quarter wave mirrors usually used

Fascinating. I did not know she invented the device our femto oscillator used to generate femto pulses.

Ugh, why do they have to call it "ultrafast" when it's actually "Ultrashort".

Lasers will be on mars as supplemental light for plant growth. Just as the last part of the video mentions. Interesting video. Wish I couldve invested in those start ups of theirs.

To Colin Watson. There's natural laser light on mars, discovered by Charlie Town's, a while back. The light bounces around the planet like a Ring Dye laser In the upper atmosphere never touching the surface of the planet. Dust particles are the laser medium pumped by the solar wind high speed moving comic particles.. :)

So basically a Swiss Templars daughter was rushed to the head of an important position in physics after a life of absolute indulgence in any area she chose and was successful at some things because the prevailing wind was completely at her back wow that’s super unimpressive- It’s also super important that this is a woman since gender is like a super relevant hot topic she deserves extra praise for not being born with an appendage!!! Do you know there are people who could make absolutely enormous contributions to advancements in all areas if they had all of that favour instead of needless encumbrance and the hindrance of poverty!

What did she mean "even though I was a girl, I was still able to persue physics"? Was she denied education due to gender? That pseudo struggle is getting annoying

Before ww2, woman were not seen as a gender of doing war, jobs and many others. Woman were image as a person who would clean the house, prepare food for the husband and etc. Maybe that's why she "Convinced her dad" to do some learning about physics; but after ww2, woman were then image as if they were like men. They were able to keep up with the males and that's when the equality of males and females started to come to an agreement. In the end, my idea might be flase.

@@officialmaskx6793 Don't be silly, she studied in the 80's, not in WW2 times. It was less common for women because fewer had interest in basic sciences but there were plenty nonetheless. The only struggle is in today's media.

The issue is extremely deeply embedded into our society. As young children, toddlers even, boys are told that they're DOING cool things like wow you're so good at the toy racecar driving, and girls are told that they are LOOKING good, omg pretty pink dress and she's so beautiful. This is subtle yes but it has devastating consequences, because when we grow older and want to pursue a field such as physics or chemistry, we are not seen in the way men are. I was told to my face that men can "just do things in STEM that women can't." I've also had a customer at the restaurant I used to work at before I was accepted into grad school, he turned to his friend and said "ya know she's a lot smarter than she looks!" It is not a pseudo struggle and the fact that you said that proves that you are privileged.
