I will say the same : your boat looks like the fishermen Nothumbrian coble (the one which have no more rig, using only an engine).🙂

I'll have to take a look at that!!

You could anchor using the "Alderney ring" technique. I cant help thinking your boat looks like a Yorkshire coble with the bow cover on too 😂

I grew up in Whitby and that silhouette is pure coble. No traditional sailing cobles have a spray deck. I love Dave's innovative ideas though but I'd rather see some innovative tent solutions or maybe an inboard electric motor conversion. What's the point in solving problems that don't exist? My experience of sailing small boats is they rarely get swamped due to water over the bow. More likely over the stern in a broaching situation.

I will have a look at that technique. So many ways to crack this nut!!! I think Lulu would say the Northumbrian Coble looks like her!!

Hi Dave, maybe a 'lazy line' system would deal with the anchoring issue? No need to get to bows it's all done from side of boat.

Phil. Thats a golden nugget of "I never knew about that"!!! I will look that up! Anchoring from the side would be so much easier anyway on the Lugger as she's a bit cluittered up front.

@@SailingWithDave yeah great idea i might employ that method too on my new one

@@Spud63 One thong I have thought of is to use heavy duty zips. Have 2 on each side. and maybe a 3rd in the middle. The side ones would allow you to leave the fixings on the boat but you could remove the panels fully so for mooring or even on a trip where you just wanted to get rid of them you could. An option middle zip would allow you to open it up more easdily for anchoring etc. You could make the zips dual opening so you could just crack open one side a bit for the rode or line?

@@SailingWithDave sounds like a better plan

the batten you put on the side after shaping and profiling it and varnishing/epoxying will the actual cover material be perm fixed to it and sealed as water will get inbetween and poss damage with heavy waves hitting the top of it , otherwise looking good , what is min temp you would epoxy outside , surprised in feb was warm enough

Yes me too, global warming has its benefits I guess (joke!!!). The West systems 105 hardener says 5°C+ but ideally it needs to be 10°C+ for a decent quick cure in my view. Yes the battens would make a permanent fixture to the boatand if screwed in would create a good strong bond, or at least thats the idea!!!

Don't take this wrongly I enjoy your work a lot: however the music is irritating (I get it during the introduction, that can always be skipped). I'm curious to know is it just me? I always unsubscribe and select "don't recommend channel" when people decide they must have background music or other sounds whilst they are talking. I'm curious to hear other people's views.

Hi Fibber. I'm sorry to hear tha, especially from someone who I know has been a subscriber for so long. Let me explain what i'm doing. I wanted to just change things up a bit for a number of reasons. So I have been experimenting with using a different format. The sea adventures I did last season actually out perform all other videos on a monthly basis. Even my latest 4 posts per month are usually outperformed in views by these videos. So I am naturally trying to copy that kind of format, because it works and also because it's interesting to do too. I'm not hell bent on grpwing the channel but have found over the 3 or 4 years of doing it that it has to remain fresh to a degree and also it has to not be a chore for me or I will just stop. So I have been trying to make the format a bit more like that. Don't worry, I think I do this for a few more weeks and then go back to the old format, its an experiement and we'll take a look at if it worked. Judging from the analytics I have seen already, not much is the answer to that!!! These videos are considerably harder to edit so I am quite happy to go back!!! I am also extremly interested in any views people have, so I am very happy to hear too. I think after 3 or 4 years you do have to make some changes or it just gets boring. But I am open to ideas all the time.

Thanks Dave. Intended as constructive criticism no more. I understand you wish to grow creatively and will never please all. To enjoy you’re site I'm willing to compromise: such is life. The question I ask is: is the popularity of such as you describe to do with subject matter or any music (or weird "sounds", not something you do yet)? How much is in spite of the latter rather than because of it? Everything from Radio to TV etc has not only music (which is one thing and can be brilliant when done well) but strange sounds and drumbeats playing as people talk and I wonder who actually likes this? Most people may simply just have the ability to ignore it. It's not a new thing but it is great to find old TV which does not have it. When my hero is walking in the woods I prefer to hear birdsong, not a whale in pain. Screaming swifts yes, that mediocre female never. The call of the wind, water and gulls does it for me on a boating video. The issue is now the ability to do "sounds" is universal and so it is becoming increasingly common on the internet. I wonder who actually likes it? I'm mostly talking about "sounds" but I make the point NOBODY EVER in music has achieved universal popularity: in fact ALL are minority taste. I define in music bad taste as somebody else’s idea of good taste.
