Eps 17 - Touring Flores - Ende: The Amalfi of Flores? - Around Indonesia on my Small Motorcycle

I'm enjoying every day of this Grand Motorcycle trip around Indonesia, but more so when I can ride on some amazing roads. Now, the southern coastal road West of Ende isn't quite there yet and there is still a lot of work to do, but if it's done well, when that road is finished it'll be one which people will travel far just for the pleasure or riding it. As I was riding through the many construction sections of the road, I couldn't help thinking about the Amalfi coast in Italy, and how it attracts thousands of people each year. It's been a dream of mine to go and ride there one day, but in the meantime, there is always Ende. Roadworks take a LONG time to complete. When I passed that way in February they were well underway - and it looks like they are still well underway. When I went through the traffic jam was pretty intense. Beautiful stretch of coast as you say.

Waaa, mind you, it' not easy to build a road in these conditions, with the rainy season wiping it out every year, hehe.

Hi Daniel, I am back home and catching up with your adventures that I missed while being wrapped up in my own ...watching on the big TV ... looks good. There was roadworks going on in that section of road when I was there 5 years ago but not to the extent of the project now ... those cliffs are very prone to landslides. I agree, once it is finished it will be a great ride ...when I rode through there a Komodo Dragon with half-a-tail dashed across the road in front of me.

so beauty the blue beaches!!! hopefully when the goverment develope all the route crossing the location will give the local priority in all sort of food, shoppes busineses and let the local take part the tourism activities.

Rode through there a few months ago. A 2 hour delay west of Ende on one day as they had scheduled road maintenance closures I didn't know about. Really liked the blue stone beach roadside stop.

Yeah, they weren’t done yet when I went through, but it’ll be a great road when it’s finished!
