It depends what you are doing with said riflescope. Many PRS and F class competitors drop that sort of coin on their scopes. Your Schmidt & Benders, Hensholdt, Tangent Theta, Kahles riflescopes are in said price point. Most hunters typically spend $1000 and less.

This guy is very nice. Very wealthy but very nice. Scopes are nice but very pricey. I think he worked with Huskemaw optics at one point. They have a similar level but without the illuminated point. They are probably made by LOW or JOL. In my opinion the scopes should be 1k to 3k not start at 3k.

Sounds like a well built and engineered scope. It presumably has good optical quality at both ends of the magnification range and good low light performance with that 34mm tube. However aside from the internal green bubble level what problem(s) did he really solve. I didn't hear anything that I didn't know already. Every upper echelon scope manufacturer has an optical engineer on staff. Are we being cheated by the other market offerings in this boutique price range ? He''s a knowledgeable fellow with excellent credentials. However for less than $3k the Burris Eliminator 6 has a quality internal ballistic calculator, integrated laser range finder and internal digital level. If this was the first sales pitch I ever heard I would be impressed and might even impulse buy if I had cash burning a hole in my pocket.

The scope cant issues has much more to do with the rifle stock than with the scope. MOST rifle stocks prevent you from keeping your head perfectly upright without any leaning of the head at all. For wood stocks, I always carved out a notch in the stock to allow my eye to be directly behind the scope without leaning my head at all. Most of these chassis and PRS cheek rests are even worse because they're so wide.
@nathanjames329

After hearing him describe the canting problem, I'm surprised people are making canted stocks that would allow you to keep your head upright.
@Rico11b
@Rico11b Күн бұрын
@nathanjames329 One would think that would have been resolved by now. I usually modify all my stock cheek rests to eliminate the problem. Stock and chassis makers keep moving in the wrong direction, making thicker and thicker cheek rests, making the problem worse. They just copy what some other fool does and keep repeating the problem.

Dr McCall, I love to see this kind of innovation. It's obviously more than just illuminating a cant bubble. I'd like to see some real-world reviews. Should I assume you're leaving one or two for Mr Spomer to review? The price of this line of scopes is up there, likely for very good reason, but with so many 'gimmick posing as innovation' features on products these days, if a [Stealth Vision Extreme SVX 5-30×56] costs more than or close to what I'd pay up here for a [Swarovski Z8I] or a [Vortex Razor HD Gen3], I'd like to know that it holds up to those scopes regarding the 'basics'. As a relative beginner looking for something I can invest in & not want to replace in 2 or 3 years, I've been wanting to get into long range shooting (nothing crazy - 500m -1500m) in likely 7mmRM. I do have a couple of questions: 1. Does this tech eat through batteries fast? Is the battery proprietary? Rechargeable? 2. Have you shipped this scope to Canada yet? If not, any retailers you have an export license with? 3. Bonus question - has anyone with a prescription for glasses ever had a scope with a primary lens configured to the owner's prescription, so they wouldn't have to wear glasses when shooting & possibly mess up the prism angle? Thank you!

Come on Ron! This is a big "SO WHAT"!!! You take your 4K scope and I'll take a $500 scope and I can guarantee that at the same power settings you and I will see the exact SAME target with the same clarity and resolution to make a perfect shot. Even if we swap scopes the shot groups will still be the same. Paying 4K for a scope I BETTER be able to see the face of God each time I look into the scope.
@RonSpomerOutdoors
@RonSpomerOutdoors 3 күн бұрын
Rico, you might be right, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. I've never found a $500 scope with the same clarity, resolution, contrast, brightness of a much pricier, higher quality scope. That doesn't mean the $500 unit wouldn't suffice for 98% of my hunting needs to 500 yards or so. That said, I've noticed that whenever I look at a deer, elk, mountain, or flaming orange October maple through my scopes I do see the face of God. May he bless thee and keep thee and make his face to shine upon thee. Best of luck with all your outdoor adventures.
@Rico11b
@Rico11b 2 күн бұрын
@@RonSpomerOutdoors Maybe I oversimplified my point a bit. I meant that the pricier scope isn't going to give me an advantage in a hunting situation, or even target shooting. We'll still be seeing the same targets and the same mirage if it's present during the shot. A 4K scope ISN'T going to reduce my shot group size over a $500 scope. After passing 6 or $700 bucks it becomes a case of diminishing returns and the "bang for the buck" goes completely out the window. I like bang for the buck. ;)

New tech is all ways very expensive. If it catches on with highest end; over time the tech will become cheaper to produce and work its way down. Look at all of the manufacturers that their cheapest scope is far better than the most expensive from 50 years ago. And in my opinion tech improvements move even faster now than before. Maybe more affordable in a decade. Happy hunting

Over 3000$ for these scopes heck no!! Honestly in this day and age the scopes that we can pick up for 1000$ is just as good as the scopes that were 3-4000$ 10 years ago so what is the point in spending 3000$+ for a scope today?? Because it has a level inside it does that really make it worth 2000$ more?? Not in my book!! I have never in 35 years of hunting shooting and using spotting scopes have I ever had a problem with a scope that was mid grade say 700$ up to what I consider all anyone would ever need up to about 1500$!! Never had a scope in that range fail or have to send one in for warranty!! So what really makes a scope worth 2000$ more dollars when no one is having problems with the 700$ to 1500$ scopes with the same features!!

@@RonSpomerOutdoors I am sencerly curious what makes a scope worth the prices of a stealth vision or nightforce and so on we all know the 3000$ ++ scope brands!! Is it the glass?? I can’t see a simple pice of round glass 30 or 34mm in diameter costing 2 or 3 thousand dollars more than what’s in a vortex or a leupold or any other decent brand!! Is it tracking?? Iv seen videos with top tier brands with more tracking error than a mid tier so that can be it!! Turrets?? All 700$ plus scopes now have great turrets great tracking great durability!! I honestly think it’s all a paying for the name thing!! You go to a range or a match with a top tier optic that in all honesty is no better than the mid tier optics and you feel like you can shoot better or your a better hunter because you spent 2000$ more than the next guy!! I will gurnatee this though 99% of the people spend that big money on a scope can’t see the difference can’t shoot the difference can’t use the difference that their paying all that extra money for!!

Have you heard about this small unknown gerrman company called Carl Zeiss? Founded in 1846, starting with microscopes continuing on with related products. Rifle scopes from 1904. Today they are doing lensy things. Medical lasers, industrial measurements systems, everything microscopes, optical lithography, and the list goes on. There is high probability they are making the tools he's using for surgery. Oh, and they are still making rifle scopes. Pretty sure they have some "eye doctors" , even eye surgeons, and avid hunters engaged. Claiming that he would have been the first to combine this is just utter nonsense. How much did he pay you, direct or indirect, for this exposure?

I was given a free tour of his facilities, including his shooting range/hunting camp where I was allowed to shoot several rifles fitted with his scopes at targets as distant as 1,200 yards. He fed me, too. I got the same deal years ago (minus the shooting) while touring the Zeiss manufacturing facilities in Oberkochen, Germany. Zeiss, a pioneer and innovator in optics, manufactures some of the best, highest quality scopes and binoculars in the world. To my knowledge, neither Zeiss nor any other scope maker includes a bubble level and indicator LED in the eyepiece of their scopes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And, by all means, investigate all and any scopes that interest you before purchasing. (P.S. Zeiss engineers showed me a reducing lens they were building for the eventual production of computer microchips. They asked me to guess the tolerance allowed across the curved lens surface. I guessed 1/1,000,000th of an inch. I was waaaay off. It was 3 ATOMS!) That, my friend, is precision.

@@RonSpomerOutdoors Yes this might be the only internal BUBBLE level. Burris has an internal digital level on their Eliminator series of hunting scopes. If you are prone and shooting at distance, say 300 yards and beyond you're most likely going to have enough time to acquire the internal digital level properly. For shots that require a quicker response the green bubble level is superior in my opinion. The marketplace is highly competitive but I don't foresee a lot manufacturers rushing to put an internal bubble level in their scopes. It seems the quality mfgs would have done this a while back if the marketplace had a need for this type of innovation. Good scope ? It gets a resounding yes but not a game changer. There's a scope to fill every desire. I'm sure many will find this scope perfectly adequate and be quite happy with it.

@@RonSpomerOutdoors Don't get me wrong, I liked his talk on optics and eyes in general, in particular on issues that can arise when using glasses. But, I am skeptical to the scope and some of the claims he makes (main point in previous post). One example, he mentioned one of the reasons for 34mm tube is that it "let's more light through" 9:10. The old "30mm lets more light through than a 1" does" reinvented. I thought this was deemed only to be a marketing gimmick. When some company uses gimmicky claims like that, I instantly become skeptical towards the product. He also talks about that they measured light transmission. However, I can not find any published specifications on light transmission on their website. He mentions the lenses are "the best lenses" (or at least that they started out with the best), but provides no information to back it up. From what I understand, lenses are Japanese, and he talks about working with "one of the largest scope manufacturers". That leads me to think LOW. "Anyone" can get them to build scopes for them and then slap their brand on it. Quality can be great, depending on what you ask for. Website says "Best Optics 100% ED Glass". But, it also says "Resolution 8.1" Ultra High Resolution" , whatever that means?! All in all, too many red flags for me. As @lamont814 wrote below, Burris has a few options with an internal indicator for cant. Leupold have indication for when canting built into the illumination in some scopes. I know SIG produces a model with integrated level indicator (lights off when level, otherwise indicating how to correct). Different implementation, same functionality. But, you are right in that it is not a bubble level that lights up. He says integrated bubble levels has been done before (e.g. Huskemaw), but "it's always been hard to see, because it's sort of dark down there". I doubt most people are looking at the bubble when shooting though, so the light signaling is probably what is more informative. At the end of the day though, it's a matter of taste. And as the saying goes - the customer is always right, in matters of taste. I, however, will continue to be skeptical, especially at that price level. I would happily see an independent and unbiased review/comparison of the optics, and I will adjust my views accordingly. Until then, hunt honest and shoot straight. And practice some professional skepticism when it comes to products like this.
