Epson SureColor P9570 can't print on thin Washi paper

We've been using Moenkopi Unruu for 14 years, and have printed it for that long on the Epson 9800, 9900, and P9000. But the Epson SureColor P9570 can't print on thin Washi paper. It destroys the paper. Epson has no solution for this. If you need a new Epson printer, and use art papers, you should definitely buy a different printer. Although this printer is marketed as a fine art printer, it is certainly not a fine art printer.

I print on Asuka (Washi) 75 gsm 44"rolls. I have encountered tis same issue on and off. It seemed to be worse when the printer was new and after using it for 2 years does not seem quite as bad. I have successfully probably run 30-40 or so Asuka Rolls through the printer. I find myself having to reload the roll frequently. I certainly cannot say run a 70 or 80 inch print, but smaller prints are doable, say up to 50". It is incredibly frustrating but I don't have a choice but to stick with this printer.

One of our P9570s eats washi paper every single time. The other is generally OK. When the warranties run our we are replacing them with Canons

I know the video is old but what Epson said about this issue? Did they solve it now that we are 2 years later?

Epson has addressed some of the more critical issues, although we still have to print at half speed to avoid ghosting, and we do still get frequent head strikes, but it's not nearly as annoying as it was when we first got them.

It's a mixed bag. When it works, it works, but it's a very finicky machine and full of bugs

I’m looking at buying the Japan equivalent model here in Tokyo but am scared by all the issues you’ve had! Has anything improved in the 9 months since these videos?

Yes, same here. Sometimes it works great, other times it eats a lot of paper. Very frustrating. @@BellevueFineArtRepro
