Several years ago, V800 (which technically is the same device) with Silverfast, costed me about 500€. Epson dramatically increased prices.

Hey SprocketHoles, can you make a video about how you calibrated the scanner? It is difficult to find any good information about that online.
@Karl-HeinzZahorsky-ks6ed11 ай бұрын
Calibrating your scanner with SilverFast Ai Studio is a piece of cake. Just put the IT-Target von your scanner and press the IT8-Button in the vertical toolbar. The whole process including finding the reference data is fully automatic. It even gives you a Delta-E value for the precision of your result. See the whole process here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOod36nbbqlqLc

Great video, I seem to struggle with getting sharp black and white negs with my Epson, tried every which way, height adjustment, better scanning holders, etc etc the scans are ok but not as clear as I thought they might be, I seem to get the best result from the MF holder set at the lowest level , great vid thanks for sharing

Its a shame, these epson scanners are pretty much all that's left but they're not very good. None of them. It's almost impossible to get consistent focus in your scans.

Way late on this, but keep your eyes on the used market. I scored a V700 for $75 USD. I then purchased V850 holders and a PrimeFilm XAs for 35mm for about 1/2 to 2/3rds what a full V850 would cost. I had a prior version of SF and LaserSoft will offer you a huge discount on an additional license for a new device.

Hi, how long did it take for you to complete a roll of 36 using this scanner ? just doing some research before i jump on the boat for shooting film.
@SprocketHoles3 жыл бұрын
About 35-50 mins depending on the scanning resolution, but a lot of that is the scanner working away so you do other stuff

Hi, did you say the dust removel of the software does not work for B/W films?
@SprocketHoles3 жыл бұрын
It won't work on silver based black and white films( Hp5, trix, etc) because the infrared light is blocked by the image. It works on ilford xp2 super which is a chromogenic c-41 black and white film.

You can use the ISRDx for black and white dust removal.

@@silekiernanphotography How, can you elaberate, Please Thanks. I just received the V850 I ordered, but have not set it up yet so would appreciate any help using the ISRDx, since I will be scanning mostly B&W 4x5 film.
@silekiernanphotography2 жыл бұрын
@@markjfrey Hi Mark! You probably got a copy of the Silverfast software with your scanner and you will see options there for iSRDX etc. The company also has tons of tutorials. Also, Nick Carver has some excellent videos here on KZbin on dust removal and scanning with the Epson Scanner. At any rate, the first step is to load up SilverFast.

5:53 the highest position, really?? I thought it was supposed to be the one indicated by an arrow (3mm). Then again, the holder is so crappy that it doesn't manage to keep negatives flat and the curve of the negative might affect the correct scanning height. Wish I weren't so broke so that I could order the better scanning holder

Your video title indicated it would be addressing scanner setup. Unfortunately you skipped over most of the actual setup of this scanner and concentrated on unpacking and use of the scanner. As a new purchaser I am faced with 3 CD's with no explanation of them, no sequence to install them in and nothing about calibrating it. The Epson user manual doesn't cover this. Lack of documentation from Epson is very disappointing.

My point exactly CW, I can't even get this connector in the back connected, unless perhaps by forcing and damaging the whole thing? What a nightmare scanner to setup...

I returned it to the shop meanwhile. Its a very mediocre scanner. I hired some specialist to install it and on a Mac it simply doesn't work well. Apart from being nearly impossible to install, the results are incredibly mediocre, compared to my 24 years old Nikon Coolscan (which I was hoping to replace with something better, not something worse :( ) The Epson got to about 60% of the detail in slides I had scanned brilliantly in the Coolscan. The Epson made everything fuzzy, whereas my Coolscan is razor sharp. Why would I replace such a great scanner as the Coolscan than? Well, the Coolscan is no flatbed scanner. It takes limited formats only. So I thought, if for € 1100 I can have equal (or 24 years later likely BETTER) scan quality including any format, even directly scanning pocket negs on the surface, it would be a huge advantage. But the results are so mediocre it isn't good enough for my private holiday pics. And yeah, in 2024 I expect pro scan quality for € 1100, not to mention plug & play installation on Mac, not this nightmare, sorry. I mean, scan quality is like, the BASIC ingredient of scanning, not? Anyone has a better scanner recommendation? Please...
