Epson XP-540 printer with Epson 33 cartridges - initialization and disable firmware updates

Our test printer for Epson 33 inkjet cartridges is an Epson Expression Premium XP-540 working with 5 single tank inkjet cartridges. What happens during powering up the printer for the first time and how to install the Epson 33 inkjet cartridges? How to deactivate the automatic firmware updates to ensure that alternative material or refillable cartridges are not excluded from beeing used in such a printer?

Hi, if I install the latest firmware, will the compatible cartridges still work properly? I have read that the latest firmware does not allow the use of compatible cartridges, is it true? Thank you

Hello Agusti, thanks for Your question. The effects by installing the newest firmware on Your cartridges cannot be predicted 100 % in advance. Firmware updates at least partially aim at excluding alternative cartriddges from working in printers. ... it depends on how old your compatible cartridges are especially the alternative chips on them. The age of the alternative cartridges is also counting how long these cartridges have been sitting at the trading company before being sold to You. So the basic question is why do You need the new firmware on Your printer? We recommend to stick to working firmware as long as possible - do not change a running system..

@@octopusoffice Thanks for the reply. I will follow your advice not to update the firmware. This XP-540 printer when sent to print a document, when in standby, sometimes takes 2 or 3 minutes to print, and the EpsonScan2 application does not detect it until it stops and starts. I have set a standby of 15 minutes which is the maximum. I thought the new firmware would fix this. Thanks
