Range by David Epstein was one of the most ironic books I've come across, but profoundly changed the way I view my career and the world. like a blind truth so obvious, but one we've been missing out

How can I talk to people about this? I don't have any friends I can bounce ideas off of about this.

Also consider those who come from behind due to hardship and thus, work twice as hard until one day they end up far surpassing everyone because they work harder, it didn't come easy, thus, they don't take it for granted.

1) Don't Gardner's Multiple Intelligences speak to this??? 2) Perfect Pitch has to be learned at an early age??? After a certain point the opportunity is lost???

"Tiger Woods.... who I think is maybe... the single greatest example of expertise development in the world ever." A sad statement. Not that Tiger Woods wasn't really really good at golf; but this statement of his demonstrates that Epstein has a very limited grasp on some of the great historical examples of human achievement. "ever" That's a big, broad word there.

Can you think of a single example in history who had *recorded* 10,000 hours of practice in their field? You're highlighting "ever" but the word "example" is the one that brings down your argument.

DTwo - sure. Baroque violinists (Rachel Podger, Helene Schmitt, Carmingola) concert pianists (eg Rubinstein, Nakamatsu) Physicists (Bohm, Bell, Schrodinger) Mathematicians (Bernoulli, Gauss, Euler...) Composers (Schmelzer, Handel, Bach, Beethoven...) Ballet (Baryshnikov, Vishneva...) Magicians (Blaine, Copperfield, Kriss Angel) Visual artists (Michaelangelo, Vermeer, Klimt) A good number of these were/are examples of persons with a relatively greater level of expertise in their respective crafts than Tiger Woods was in his)

@@DTwoHS How does "popularity" impact the fact of the development. Also, I would expect anyone beyond 9th grade to be familiar with at least half the names, otherwise WTF are they learning at school (+ in society)?
