This was refreshing! Thank you! A big shift for me was no longer seeing myself as the one in control of all of this, seeing I wasn’t this person, and knowing/experiencing life from a witnessing or “awareness of” state. Yet, as I reflect, I still feel as if I play the character much of the time, Its like a habit. But I know, From seeing directly into this when my mind gets effortlessly quiet, that I’m literally awareness of & not an entity “doing” . It’s kind of hard to describe with words 🤷🏻♀️and for me it’s been going on for years and as I read Nisargadatta’s conversations I know I’m not as awake to what actually is as it sounds like he was, I don’t mind either, I just find everything so fascinating !

I'm so glad I found this video, it just answered my final concern. (After about 3 years of Enlightenment)...I used to travel once in awhile (when life became unbearably boring) and since covid restrictions, and since Enlightenment, I've stopped. Now I live a simple existence in small town Mexico doing previously-unbearably-boring routines seemingly over and over again. Only it doesn't seem boring anymore and, lately, I began to wonder if Enlightenment has made me mentally retarded! I think, Ya...I'm gonna rent an Airbnb place someplace I've never been to so I can "mix it up a bit". But then I go for a usual previously-unbearably-boring walk and...I'm in Heaven again! And I forget all about traveling. Why? How come? What for? All is perfect just as it is. Why did I want to travel? I forget. lol. I have a question and I'd dearly like an answer. It's so hard to find someone who it would be appropriate to ask. I once (about 5 years ago) was in a prolonged state that seemed to me to be enlightenment or similar. It came on after only a couple of months, or maybe less, of daily meditation. I seemed to be in the perspective of my "higher self" all the time and felt a total absence of any negative emotion. Lifelong depression and social anxiety just evaporated into thin air. Impressive synchronicities occurred constantly, I seemed very magnetic to people, and I was totally calm and confident. I viscerally felt "at one" with everything. I was convinced that it would never again be possible for me to become depressed. This feeling or whatever it was persisted constantly for almost an entire year. Gradually though, all of this faded away, even though I was still doing all the same things (meditating, etc.), and nothing in particular occurred to account for it. I just drifted back into the "small me." I noticed it happening but there didn't seem to be anything I could do to stop it. I did indeed end up becoming depressed again. In general in my life I have been very prone to depressions. Some of the worst depression in my life has even happened after this event. Nothing like this "enlightened state" ever happened to me before or since. I practically lost interest in spirituality after that because it seemed like there was nothing to aspire to if it could just disappear like that. I couldn't get it back. I have always been interested in these topics and I have read widely, but I'm sure that you have studied much more than I have and are more of an expert, so can you think of any possible explanation for what happened to me? Thank you.

Hi Eric, oftentimes enlightenment is described as a perpetual flow-state in which you will start to act and make decisions that come automatically to you. As if you don't need to plan anything, like where to work, or what to do in life. As if the grace of God/Universe will start to move you. Is this an overly idealistic misrepresentation or is this the case for an enlightened person?
@NondualityChannel3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps an overly idealistic misinterpretation. Deliberation and struggle are not needed to decide and act. Action arises from understanding...we usually rationalize the decision with thought after the decision has been made. There is no need to rationalize action/decision. After enlightenment, a lot of that unnecessary thought does not arise. However, enlightened people can still plan...say a vacation for next year, what to get at the store, how the bills are going to be paid, etc. It is not that "you don't need to plan anything"...but the plans are not taken seriously...that is to say if what is planned does not come about there would be suffering. The plan does not have to succeed in order to be happy. Happiness is now. Action tends to be more spontaneous...without deliberation.
@luistirado63053 жыл бұрын
@@NondualityChannel Thanks for responding. The way I understand enlightenment is that it is getting to that point where you no longer derive your sense of self from your thoughts. You no longer believe that your psychological makeup defines you; and your identity becomes more elastic. You realize that there isn't really such thing as a "me." However, even after having reached that point, I find that I still constantly get carried away by the ego in the sense that a lot of my motivation to do things in life are still influenced by the ego. And I still find that a lot of my thoughts give rise to temptations that try to get me to engage in superficial activities as a way, I feel, to prevent me from abiding/resting in my being/awareness. So my question is this: After enlightenment does the individual still have to cultivate the habit of seeing through the motivating influence of the ego? Or when you use the word "enlightenment" are you referring to that point whereby the individual has already made it a habit to see through the ego at all times ...to the extent that it has now become second-nature?
@NondualityChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@luistirado6305 No, there is no need to cultivate the habit of seeing through the ego. Upon enlightenment, the ego never causes confusion again...it is not you...there is no "me" and nothing to identify with. Kind of like, you never have to cultivate the habit of not confusing yourself to be your kitchen refrigerator. Identification with the body-mind just drops away...and there is no identification with anything anymore. It's not about habit at all...you just know you are not that...the end. The ego fools you only because it has not been seen through. There is some ignorance and misunderstand remaining that causes doubt and thinking "maybe I am that". You still think you are an individual because you have not seen through that illusion totally. The illusion has not yet shattered...which is enlightenment.
@luistirado63053 жыл бұрын
@@NondualityChannel Thanks for responding. In order to get that point would you have to have been cultivating the habit of resisting the temptation to identify as the ego, or does that point in time you call enlightenment just happen spontaneously (without your volition) ...say by meditating constantly?
@NondualityChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@luistirado6305 It is a matter of directly seeing/understanding...deeply...profoundly...without doubt. This is not something cultivated, turned into habit, resisting, etc. You can't do anything to cause enlightenment...it is more of a grace that happens. At best a more conducive environment can be created...free of distraction..by being still and silent and fully aware. Put it this way...enlightenment is a seeing through the illusion of "me"...what can a "me" do to cause this? Anything a "me" does only reinforces the illusion of "me". A "me" never gets enlightened.

@@NondualityChannel Thank you for your reply Eric. Would you describe your teachings more like the Neo Advaita like Tony Parsons teaches where we don't have to do any spiritual work (Tony says there is nothing to do), or more along the lines of Ramana Maharshi where he says effort is required?
@NondualityChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@mikebell4435 Neither...I mainly say cease doing and efforting. As Ramana Maharshi says...abide in Silence. This is not a doing. There is nothing you can do to cause awakening...you can't effort your way to awakening. But a more conducive environment for the grace of awakening to occur can be arranged (mainly via ceasing to do and cease thinking/silence of mind). Some doings may also help to a limited degree...for example, examining and questioning who you currently think/feel yourself to be in order to directly see you are not that. But again, this won't cause awakening. Ramana Maharshi did not give people a bunch of things to do (various spiritual practices and work). He mainly just taught self-enquiry...the purpose of which he said was to quiet the mind...so as to abide in Silence. Really, Ramana did not teach doings and effort either...he just said abide as Silence. This is not a doing. Self-enquiry, which is a doing, is supposed to lead to not-doing (i.e. abiding in Silence). Abiding as Silence does not cause awakening...it is just a more conducive environment for the grace of awakening. Ramana Maharshi called enlightenment a grace as well. You can't cause grace...you can't do anything to get grace.
