I still remember sitting in the pool in shadowhaven for 3 hours, listening to the raid communication from another server as they killed the sleeper. GMs despawned it at 20% (I think) the first time around, claiming there was an exploit being used, so that the sleeper wouldnt be killed, and those listening were losing their mind

Good old days... no maps, no instances
@samuelrs51385 жыл бұрын
I think no instances is a good thing, but maps were awesome when they came out. No more having to look up maps on sites like Allakahazems and spam your /loc key when trying to find something. And no more having to take an extra five minutes to run across a zone by going along the walls because you're too lazy to do the /loc thing.

Plane of Mischief was a great zone. Shame it didn't make it.
@TheRusty11 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Kerafym was not actually unkillable. he just had so many hit points that it was a futile effort for any raid. Unless the entire server raided him. That server was Rallos Zek. That was a fun day.
@samuelrs51385 жыл бұрын
Another fun fact: It was actually a Chinese/Tiawanese guild on a Chinese server that killed Kerafym first, the Kerafym on Rallos Zek was actually the second time he was killed.

Sleeper never went into other zones. It was simply a worldwide broadcast.

Yes he did, scripts run across Velious, as well as Sol B and Permafrost where Nagafen and Vox live.

This is xpansion was the definition of long hours of raiding patience. Literally hours of raiding to kill one boss. This wasn’t WoW, killing a boss in minutes, this was hours !

Does nobody care about original EQ and the void in all of us unfulfilled for all these years? 10k views? I grew up with original EQ selling teleports, waiting 10 minutes for a boat or meeting up in east commons to sell stuff in the mountain... Good times.

+Serve Allah Im right there with both of you. It was my first MMO when I was around 12 years old and raided with an amazing guild until I was 16. I remember running through Kunark and Velious with my best friends, grouping, exploring, raiding and questing. Man, I can not explain how many amazing moments I had in EQ.

Raid sizes weren't 72 man. They had no cap as there was no raid tool, you just had an army of unconnected groups.
@markf333311 жыл бұрын
Indeed, the raid window was introduced during PoP expansion and until then there was no real way to define what a raid was, just individual groups of people working together that we called a raid. Instances were not around so a raid could be as big as the number of people you could get to join.

One of the main reasons I still play in P99 even today ... I go in, play for some months, leave it for some months, and then return again ... been doing that for several years now. No other MMO can give me the feeling EQ, specially classic, gives to my brain, heart and soul. TY for this video, I enjoyed it between a 6 min camp in South Karana with my necro hahah! >:D

So awesome. Velious was nearing the end of my EQ days. My wife and I stuck it out a bit in Luclin but left for DaoC shortly thereafter. Velious has a ton of good memories and you covered a lot of those areas!

they did eventually kill the sleeper but he wasn't itemized and had like a cloth hat or something.

I just started playing EQ1, running around in the newbie cave so I can't say, sorry. But Kunark is HUGE and Velious is pretty big too. You have the Great Divide with a huge scar that splits it, the Eastern Wastes which is a forestland cut down by giants and ettins. The place called Awakening Lands is turned into a barren forest full of purple corruption and a swamp, full of corrupted creatures with pumping purple blood veins... That's about as much as I know. And skyshrine is a big battlefield.

Check out a EMU server called Project1999. Velious should be released by end of the year. It will not progress any further than Velious era.

Oh man... Such a nostalgia trip. I love it. Many, Just Velious seems bigger than the entirety of most modern MMO's these days. Maybe it's not really, and it's just the travel speed and dungeon complexity that makes it seem that way, but really. Most modern MMO's don't even have 3 factions in the whole game, much less just on one island.

Velketor the Sorcerer? I thought Velketor was something dragon-ish? Or did he morph into a semi-dragon for EQ2? :P Secondly, do you still lose items when you die in EQ1 or was that in the old EQ1 only? Have thought of trying it out many times but am scared to lose all my posessions. Third, Velketor's Labyrinth do exist in EQ2, but it's reformed into Hold of Rime: The Ascent so it looks very different, but some parts are a bit reminiscent to what I see from the one in EQ1.

"depositing her children on plants." :p Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I still remember very clearly the day when the Rallos Zek server killed Kerafyrm. He wasn't made technically unkillable. Zerging with 300+ characters was needed to bring him down, and only unresistable spells like Harm Touch and Manaburn could land on him. In the end, His corpse lay at our feet for the 30 seconds that a loot-less corpse would last.

Oh I don't know. Kunark was fun, and Velious had that amazing Tizmak armor with the special textures (assless pants on female Dark Elves for instance) and was highly sought after along with Velium Weapons. Many people used to grind the Dwarven Guards to get the weapons and the neat Velium shields shown in the above video.
