I’m thinking that people need to start challenging the “volume at max no matter what” setting. It seems to me like a relic from older amps, and a little too close to the mentality of dialing in a smiley face on a graphic eq for my liking. I’ve gotten into the habit of setting the volume/level on my overdrives conservatively to start, or even on clean getting a boost to taste then switching over to distortion channel. Much better results this way.
@8Seven657 ай бұрын
Yeah, I especially noticed that with the Plumes. Sometimes it sounds better dialing down the vol and upping the gain a bit.
@ethermod3073 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the trouble Scott, but when you're running the amp that dirty there's no way we can actually hear the pedals. It does clean up at the end of the video but obviously the sound of both pedals overlap with each other. It'd be better to show their differences instead of trying to make them sound the same. My 5 cents.
@ScottBynoe3 жыл бұрын
They will sound similar because at their core they are both based on an 808 style OD. And when you are using these pedals as a boost for high gain they will sound close or identical (especially mode 2 since they are both OpAmps). And that sort of is the point. Someone looking for either one of these pedals will do well with a Plumes or a Dunes if they want a boost for high gain. The Dunes is more tweakble but they are both in the same ballpark. And if you listen on good headphones or speakers you can hear the difference as a boost. And in the low gain stuff you can most definitely hear a difference. Thanks for watching.
@threepe02 жыл бұрын
There’s no way YOU can hear the pedals. Many of us use OD pedals in this particular way and know what we’re looking for. If you’re using overdrive in a different way, this video isn’t for you.
@jonathanamodeo89012 жыл бұрын
fully agree with you. Those are low-gain OD... so better do low-gain music for a "general" demo. Else have to precise that this is a demo for deamons ;)

Thank you for not touching the volume and gain knob once until it was time to show off the last switch option. I can not begin to tell you how pissed I get when the person demoing will constantly finger them, especially the volume. We all know what that one does, quit f'n with it! Don't know what people are complaining about. People have used tube screamers for boosting dirty channels for decades! Good to see that usage stepped through properly, for once.

I know, it's funny. I have noticed some non-high gain/non-metal folks stumble on this video and get all confused and upset by me using these pedals as boosts. I get the EQD stuff has a wide audience, but it's just interesting when you get people dropping in that don't understand how a boost works and for some reason get offended by it haha

really interesting comparison. Dunes seems bit brighter and a littletouch more aggressive, less rounded. But I am surprised. How close they can sound. What I like about the Dunes is that chime switch and bandwith narrowing, for my style of playing. I will watch your video about the Dunes.

Great demo. They can make the same sounds basically 1:1. However the bright and bandwidth switch add another dimension to the pedal but if someone was looking to choose between the two basically if the plumes didn’t seem bright enough or pulled back the lows too much.
@ScottBynoe3 жыл бұрын
Yes totally, they are almost the same. The Plumes is not too expensive and still in production. And the Dunes, if I'm not mistaken is now discontinued (I think). Dunes is definitely cool if you want more tweakability (especially as an OD on the clean channel, I really like the Dunes). But if you want to Chug, Djent and whatever else you want to call it, the Plumes will get you there. Thanks for watching!
@CharlesWillisBonsai3 жыл бұрын
The Plumes is pretty bright. Even with the tone rolled all the way back its bright. I ended up trading mine off.
