I think what has happened is that all the boutique builders saw how big Cuvave and Amazon Basics pedals got, and realized that there was a huge market for quality, low-cost pedals. But most of the inexpensive pedals are clones, or the original thing that got cloned, like Rats and Big Muffs and Tube Screamers. Even boutique builders, when they had less-expensive pedals, they were always clones or way stripped down, like the EQD Plumes which is a Tube Screamer and the EQD Acapulco Gold which literally has a volume knob and nothing else. Then JHS hit the market with their 3 Series, which are high quality and unique/rare/ultra modified circuits and they exploded. Everyone talks about how the 3 Fuzz is one of the greatest fuzzes ever, and now it seems like all the boutique builders saw JHS and went, Dang. People love the 3 series. Inexpensive, exciting, USA built pedals are what everyone wants apparently. So now we have EQD coming in and meeting JHS on their own turf, with an inexpensive, new, exciting, and great sounding and fully-featured pedal.

I bought one of these two days ago and I love it. It's also amazing on bass. You're right that, on the lower-gain settings, it really retains a lot of the clean characteristics of your tone. I've tried it so far on a Strat and a P+J bass. Amazing on both.

Awesome demo! You sold it to me in the first 5 minutes. This is the type of drive pedal I've been looking for and could never find. Real talk.If you're using a good tube amp, I've found that many drives take away more critical content than they add.This was designed with the idea of making inexpensive transistor amps sound more tube like, and I think it succeeds at that, in the same way the Plumes works to make small tube combos function more efficiently . I'm picky about Drives, and before the Hudson Broadcast was released, relied on Ge Fuzz, and occasionally the BD2, or straight up boosts like the Micro Amp/250, to do the clipping. Such choices are determined by amps and speaker cabs, but this style of circuit is always a good start. Ryan's Princeton's are a fine foundation; maybe an ideal design, difficult to make sound bad because they are great by themselves.

I bought this pedal on a whim last year. The sound was surprising. If I keep it on the germanium side with the volume up and the gain down, I got a Vox like chimey sound. I’ve been wanting to get that sound without having to buy a Vox amp. The silicone side with the gain about 3 o’clock is just Raw Over-Stortion goodness.
@GoCreateSomething Жыл бұрын
That's interesting! I thought there was a problem with the more pot on my Special Cranker because it made noise when I turned it. Apparently that's just the way it works since yours does it too. :P I have no idea why it does that but apparently it is a feature and not a bug. I like that pedal for the same reason you do. You get to hear your amp and guitar. That's really nice on a guitar with coil tapping, imo. The germanium/silicon switch is good for a coil tapping guitar, too.

I bought a Lovepedal "Invisible Man" boost, which is a dirty one-knob boost. But it is LOUD. With the knob at 7 or 8 o'clock it takes the volume of a Princeton from 3 to 6-7 easily. I can't imagine how loud it would be with both cranked, unless it just compressed and got muddy after a certain decibel level. But otherwise it sounds great and is less "dirty" than this pedal. You have to dig in to get the dirt.
