Sorry man, this definitely sucks, they are everywhere these days lol, and if you refuse to bow a knee to their bs they dogpile. They have no problem with extremely degenerate bs being said and posted on the daily. I'm playing SoloQuest right now lol. I waited 10 years for EQOA to come back, i can wait another 10 months or so for EQOAemu. I didn't bust my ass pouring hundreds of hours into promoting the memory of this game, and recruiting people to work on it and play it, to have some ego tripping maniacs turn it into their own personal playground. I warned these fkheads multiple times not to get arrogant. Now their numbers are down, and it's almost guaranteed the majority will leave when emu opens up.

I didn't want to do it but i have to keep it real. Took me 3 months before i got tired of the bs. I'm planning on covering EQOAemu in detail, been talking with the lead dev and he said he will keep me in mind when the server is close to launch. I'll be covering it for sure. Stay tuned. 😀

I think the community will always have issues since about 5% of them never grew tf up, it's still staggering to see the vocal minority over there acting like children. I have hope the EQOAemu team is not going to be anything like the devs on ShitStorm. Xylof seems like a good guy, but he didn't prioritize community management and let those 5% run the show. You absolutely have to police a community. You can't let people name themselves whatever they want and say whatever they want. Global chat was always going to be toxic, and i warned them months ago to ditch it. I get the benefits, but without admins who can deal with manbabies it gets bad, fast.

Bizarre that someone on a team working to restore a niche (and well loved) console MMO is trying to make modifications to deviate from the original. Why? Who asked them to? Does this dev believe they know what the community wants better than the community itself? So many questions. If the community voted on this down the line and decided that "yeah this is broken please fix it" then sure, that would make sense. For one person to unilaterally make this decision is again, truly bizarre.

The thing that's odd is Xylof doesn't step in and stop him. He's just given free reign to do whatever tf he wants. Even Renodor uses alt accounts and flames the community when he gets pissy about them criticizing his work... i wish i kept the video of his bs, because i had him red handed lol. I dropped it after he was chill with the Lionwere quest and fixing it. But he mistook something i said to Blodreina as an insult, logged into an alt account, and said "Should i tell the devs to make you walk to oasis to check infection!?" When i wasn't complaining about infection, i was saying i got the "lame popup" meaning the tail quest popup, when i thought it was the infection pop up and he went off lol. These guys are clown shoes operation lol.

@@EQOAnostalgia What's odd is that, for me at least, playing EQOA was never about the min-maxing. It was about exploring a huge, wonderful, seamless and immersive world with friends. Sure, there were raids and epic quests to complete, but those were never the drivers for me playing. Dev nonsense aside, the server plays like an absolute dream. As someone whos missed this game dearly for many years, playing here has been an absolute treat. Much more to be added, but what's there feels so darn good. Hopefully they can sort out the egos and get us to where we all want to be, back in the real Norrath :D

I've played on the server a bit and decided there is absolutely no reason to join this server for now. If the devs have the opinion they are just rebuilding for themselves and throwing crumbs to anyone else is just 100% proof that he will always be a bad dev and the server experience is going to be negative if he is involved. Better to put your support into other EQOA projects with devs that aren't so anti-social. Nothing against Lard specifically, he's totally non-unique to any other bad dev.

Jeremiah/Alutra is working on the REAL EQOA server. The original, that many of us poured a lot of time into making a reality. These guys took a lot of his and other peoples work, and made it a closed source, open to the public server. Which has been riddled with problems from the get go. It's best to wait for that server, which might be in beta by the end of 2024. Hand in there. 😀

Sandstorm is a Shitstorm, great reference with the shit barometer. Lard is the WORST Dev I have ever seen in action. Sad to see a project like this die out but with a toxic Dev team that's the only option. They pick favorites and incite the drama that will be the downfall of Shitstorm. Ive never played Eqoa but I remember when I was a kid my moms bf at the time would play it all the time with his bros and id watch. Last month i started eq p99 thinking this is what my moms bf used to play. Recently i discovered eqoa and I thought it was dead, then i saw sandstorm, and now revival. I think ill try revival thanks to this toxicity info.

A wise move, and it pains me to say it, and it pained me to make this, but the mods do nothing to moderate the extremely loud and infantile members of the community and they have driven dozens of us off. I speak with one of the devs frequently, and he said his hands are tied, the main dev that owns the server doesn't think communities need rules. When EQOAemu comes out SS will die unless they change their stance and the attitude of a couple of the devs.

Thanks, yeah it only takes a few wokies and devs who cater to them to drive decent people away. The only solace i have is knowing that if it continues, they'll just drive more people away and into the arms of EQOAemu. EQOAemu is the OG server anyways, they're just taking their time to get it right, it won't be totally bug free, but it should be in a better state with A LOT better dialogue for quests and lore. I always planned to follow Jeremiah and co eventually anyways. I began with them around 2012, early 2013 on FB. I know how passionate those guys are for a legit server.

Yeah, it's definitely a common issue, especially with private servers. People in a legit company have to answer to higher ups, they are paid and can be fired if they compromise the integrity of the product with poor community skills. Private servers people donate their time, and when you donate your time and don't have to worry about a paycheck, this can often be the result.

As someone who runs a community of 1,000 regulars (45,000 passer bys), the server and sourcecode is his alone but the community is not his alone. I've spent 10,000 hours working on a server since 2019 (not eqoa), and I always use language like "our server", because if there were no players I would be alone and it wouldn't be any fun. He seems like an amateur dev for sure.

Toxic players are one thing, but toxic mods/admins are far worse. Even worse than woke ones. I'm not sure how much code that Lard may have contributed to the project, but either he needs to re-evaluate himself or leave the project. Preferably the first option, because as it stands now, he's not good for new players. And I get the idea he doesn't care if the server gets players at all.

Renodor is no better, i caught him using alt accounts to trash talk people for mild criticism and he even mistakenly perceived a shout i made to Blodreina about Lionwere infection as a slam on his work. I had it recorded, wish i kept it, would have been awesome to see that dude eat some humble pie lol. But esentially i shouted "INFECTED WOOT" and Bloidreina said grats. TL;DR: Renodor is easily offended when any sort of even MILD criticism is levied at his work, and he flames people on alt accounts.

Somewhere along the line they got offended with the community and began lashing out. I'll give it to Lard over Renodor though, since he'll just outright tell you he's an jerk and doesn't care. Renodor will hop on burner accounts and flame you, making you believe it's just another player lol. I suggest everyone simply wait on EQOAemu. We waited 10 or so years for Sandstorm to get to the level it is now, we can wait 5-10 months for the beta release of EQOAemu. It really soured things for both my wife and I. I wish we waited rather than have our nostalgic memories tainted by this bs. The community also has some serious edgelords that only make up a small % of us, but they are LOUD and PROUD. For 3 months several people have been put off by things like 34:25 and nothing has been done to stop it. I said a bad word once in say, and they banned me from the discord and petitioned to remove me from the game despite all the time i spent promoting their server. It's pathetic lol.

I am totally in agreeance with you on all the woke and degen garbage but as a long time EQOA player myself I would love to play a server again someday and financially support it but if it's just a 1:1 copy of live servers back then I would never play cause I've been down that road with vanilla wow and it's just abusing the same old tired meta. A server like this would need some curating and development to improve it. Take project ascension for example. Blizzard copied their idea and did a worse job which is why it failed. I love EQOA but I would never waste my time just playing the same exact abused meta where some combinations are just outright useless or busted items like klick sticks. I'm fine with those if they are toned down a little or just have reduced damage but a server like this wouldn't last long if further development was ignored. Server was around 140 average before all of this bs. Last i checked it was around 85. When you tell people "leave, don't care" as a dev, some of them might take you up on it.
