Approximately 57% of crimes reported to the police in Kenya are committed by young people. Our Ambassador Elizabeth attributes the lack of education and equal opportunities for marginalised communities to being one of the leading causes of this.
As a student, Elizabeth was asked to leave her primary school in the middle of the day because her fees were not paid, this experience led her to analyse the inequalities in her society. In 2018 she founded Wakili.sha Initiative, a non-profit organisation aimed at promoting access to justice for children in conflict with the law. Wakili.sha provides legal representation for children in conflict with the law and provides them with mentorship and skill development to help them get meaningful employment.
