For me, the fade out signals the complete loss of hope. There's this tone shift from the preceding climax of despair, where the pitch raises, making you think there may be a way out. But it is followed by a stoic, despondent response, and the fact it keeps repeating this back and forth between hope and despair while fading out shows this sense of excruciating loss is never going away. Such a tragic song that is all too relatable for anyone whoo has truly loved and lost, a group I now find myself apart of.

Jane Doe has got to be one of the most overrated albums ever created. But then one shouldn't expect much from metalcore. I mean, this was like the 6th time I tried to give this album "a chance", but fuck if this round too wasn't but a waste of time. Shit's just weak and uninteresting - this last song is the only one I might considered an acceptable effort (most of the album just bores me - although especially the vocalist makes me giggle at times, somewhat easing the ennui this album tends to impart), but it's just one of oh so many pieces in the vast, endless churning seas of mediocrity. "I guess you had to be there" is the only way I can understand the popularity of this album, perhaps coupled with the "babby's first metal[core] album"-effect in the case of some. Glad for you if you enjoy it, but I think I'm finally done trying to give Converge an opportunity to prove themselves. They haven't, and they won't, and I'm just wasting my time listening to this rather than something more interesting, rewarding, or challenging.

@@rohomaha1614 What's the actual criticism? You just basically said "they're bad cuz I don't like them". What's weak about the album specifically? I will say that when I read a sentence like "but it's just one of oh so many pieces in the vast, endless churning seas of mediocrity.", it tells me all I need to know about how you interact with music generally, and puts your little rant here into perspective. It's just an endless churning sea of mediocrity, nary a "challenging" or "interesting" band on the horizon for one so discerning. Thanks for giving us the bad news, I think me and the other people here will just go back to our pathetic ignorance in consuming all this mediocre garbage, and you can rove the internet searching forever fruitlessly for "good music". I don't like to gatekeep genres and fight about definitions but if you abhor converge, botch, or dillinger escape plan there is an issue of you labeling metalcore incorrectly. These are the grandfathers. You saying you are a huge metalcore fan but hate this is like saying you love pizza but are disgusted by cheese, sauce, and bread.
