What's your favorite song by them?
@frankmarano1118 Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasduncan5842 thats a tough question when it comes to them. Black Serotonin & Hanging Revelation. Wake might be their best album overall. But "Doing the same thing & expecting different results" has such an amazing ending. Parasitic cleanse is really good. Mental Knife is probably my least favorite album but I mean that's only because the others are just so amazing. I know there are other ones up there I'm not thinking of like Human target practice or Missed Injections

1:42 I love how that drum lick perfectly matches the guitar solo
@C.M.M.23 Жыл бұрын
Good call. That is a Hail The Sun idiosyncrasy that I zeroed in on as well- especially in their earlier work (Wake, Elephantitis). Donovan goes underappreciated with how smooth he uses that highly unconventional drumming to ride along with the guitars. Not just laying down a beat in time with the melody, but blatantly staccato-sticking out the drums to mirror the picking patterns. For a lot of those moments- it initially hit my ears in a jarring way. Like my subconsciousness going, "Wait, that was wrong..." but then upon going back, it is actually not. Similarly, Donovan has exceptional talent for firing off blast beats where you would never expect them, but making them seem like a given.

this has to be one of the best songs i’ve ever heard. I’m not even joking. The chorus, the solo, the rhythms, the structure. It’s just perfect, there’s nothing more I could want but more. I’m so excited for this album

the melody is fucking great--raw and visceral sounding. i love that. One of the most entertaining things abt this band are their switchups mid-song. the switchup at 3:13 is so emotional to me and the drum bridge into that melancholy outro. its all so complete-feeling.
@C.M.M.23 Жыл бұрын
3:35 The outro caught me so off-guard with how unreasonably comfy it is. Always something new to latch onto with this band. I am the biggest Coheed and Cambria fan that I know of. And Dance Gavin Dance is a close 2nd. But Hail The Sun might be the best band currently making music. 🤔 They have everything. Every single damn album they make is wonderful.
@moonsets-on_you Жыл бұрын
that outro gives me life dude. Like he's made his peace with the actions he takes now and in the future. Reminds me of Ow! Splidao, Will They Blame Me if You Go Disappearing, and Devastate and Recalibrate= Acoustic Outros in this band are a rare treat

3:46 i came back to say i love this outro even more than i already did. i'll spend the entire song listening just to get to that outro. only to hit replay when it ends. the guitar melody,drums, and especially the bass always takes me to a dark comfortable place i never want to leave--with a small glimmer of light i reject piercing the tunnel.

And all my life I've been so stubborn in this way I'd rather see them crash and burn or have to pay Enemies fueling my thoughts Taking up space Why do I have to be so fucking spiteful? It's sooo good!
@moonsets-on_you Жыл бұрын
nope not just you. Donovan Melero is the best lyricist ive ever heard. He clearly works hard for that portrayal and fashion of expressing himself. What comes to mind for me is Eight-Ball Coroner's Pocket where he says "I'm losing my patience" but bc drugs are discussed in the song it could be interpreted clearly as losing his "patients". Shit like that transcends music for me and keeps me coming back.
