Winter is so weird. Can't feel your legs, can't feel your feet but somehow it still feels like your being stabbed every time you get off.

Also, when you canter, it is like a blast of cold air, but your horse's body generates heat and your legs feel warm, so when you dismount, you legs feel sooooo cold

I think the best temp range for me is 60s maybe the highest being 70 degrees tho. Not too hot, not too cold. No flies, But no ice falling off the roof.

I learned my lesson riding in the hot weather when I had heat stroke last summer. I would not recommend riding if it’s above 85.

Don’t forget all the pretty colors when trail riding through a woods ❤ it’s not hot enough to wear tank tops, but not cold enough to wear winter jackets. I love long sleeve weather

I used to work as a stable hand at my local stable (Canberra, Australia) in exchange for extra lessons. Summers were the worst, because only the genuinely dedicated volunteer stable hands would show up, so some days I'd have eight stalls to muck out and one other person to help. Winters weren't as bad, but we'd have to break the ice on the water buckets in the yard and then fish out the ice shards to make sure that none of the horses got cut, so that always sucked.

Eh, our horses live outside year round (there aren't any stalls in either of the barns), so we ride year round, too, and we get some pretty brutal winters here - we're careful, but we don't stop riding in winter.

Hi Carmella! Quick question, whenever I go to give my horse her grain she gets up in my personal space and gets all pushy. How would I stop her from doing that? I try backing her up but she just decides to get in my personal space again once I release her. Also loved your video!

A lot of the time I like to stand in front of the grain and stick your hand out at there eye they will stay within hands length in my experience once they back if realest the pressure

My horse used to do that whenever I had treats, or whenever she even thought I had treats, whether I actually did or not. I taught her that in order to get the treat, she has to turn her head away - I reinforce it every time I ride her, and now she basically never tries to push for one, and even on the very rare occasions when she does try (whether I actually have one or not), it only takes a sound from me and she immediately stops. It's just basic manners around food. The youtube video I used is called "Introducing your Horse to Clicker Training Part 1 - Look Away" on the channel Georgia Bruce - it was super helpful for me because I had no idea where to start to break her habit, and that video took me step by step with tons of detailed explanation, it was perfect.

how do you know if your new horse needs tight reins or loose reins?

I feel like it just takes time, but I’d just start somewhere in the middle. If your horse starts tossing his head, throwing it down, than maybe ease up a tiny bit, but if he starts getting out of a frame, maybe a little wobbly at the trot or whatever, take more feel of the reigns.

I have a 3.5 year old filly who likes to do liberty if its walking, when I try to with her for liberty off of the lead line she tries to rear up on me.
