Unfortunately the people who need to see this video the most probably won’t be interested in learning about “rules”. Something that bothers me more than petting is when people walk up and feed my horse! 😡 One guy fed my horse a slice of pizza. But, I’ve had other “horse people”, give my horse treats or feed him grain, hay grass, it’s so rude!

No, some people are trying to pat big dogs without asking. I have big puppy now, and i so tired from random people who just try to pat him without asking. I'm right here! Puppy on a leash! But no one ask. Someone try to pat in my back on crossroads, it's so annoying.

So true! Everyone please listen to what she is saying. I had Zebras and Zorses that we had to evacuate dutting a fire in Ramona CA. We were at the Del Mar Race track stables as a shelter during this fire. I had so many people that would just not understand how dangerous it was to just not ask. And horses like she has said can respond in several different ways and it depends on their history. They could have been abused or they could be dangerous. I had Zorses and are more dangerous than normal horses. If you ask the owner then you have a guide to the history and temperament of the animal. And you do not risk a possible traumatic experience for the horse!

As someone whos not an equestrian i was always told to ask before petting/interacting with ANY pet. The type of people who do that will 100% stick their face in a dogs personal bubble and get bit.

I love your channel for educational purposes! It’s really good to be reminded that animals are dangerous. Horses are not for the average person and it is a thorough privilege to have access and the opportunity to work with them. Border protection is our responsibility. Not the general public. The average person just sees a beautiful smiling animal. They do look friendlier than dogs! It’s a shock to even have the opportunity to get close. I’m just remembering what it was like for me before I really understood anything about horses

Hello! No hate or anything but a little tip is when Tucker was pulling you with his rope that could end up being dangerous because obviously there if tension/ pulling on the rope as he is pulling you through the water and wether he knows that your pulling that for him to come to you or he’s doing that he can’t tell the difference in that situation sooo either that being said if he was to bolt or something if you tried pulling to stop him in that time he would be numb to the pressure as he was when he was pulling you if that makes since?

My last lesson I had to use a different saddle because I usually use my instructors saddle she broke the stirrup on hers and the stirrup on the new one I used kept making me like go on the side of my foot and my ankle hurt the whole time and just overall was not a great lesson because I think the saddle was a bit to big whenever I went down for posting it made a loud sound and when I did a sitting trot I could barely sit and I also think because since it rained we had to use the covered arena it was my first time in that one and I think there were some slight hills I kept going over. Anyway thanks for listening to me yap😂

I remember a while back, I was on a trail ride at the Metroparks. It was a birthday gift from my grandma because I absolutely ADORED horses and didn't do lessons at that time. My grandma hadn't been on a horse for 43 years, so I have to give her some credit, but she pretended to know what she was doing even when she didn't. I was on a beautiful mare named Happy, and she was the sweetest mare I've ever ridden. I had ridden her before a few weeks back on the same trail, so she recognized me. My grandma was riding a horse named Rocko, and you could TELL she was super freaked out because she was making a lot of weird noises. After crossing a road there was a little dip that let out to a mile-long field that eventually led to a bridge over a huge river across a main road. When we went over the dip my grandmas horse leaped ahead and started trotting and saying "God (Word I cant say) GET HIM!" I loved trotting so I just asumed it was normal so I felt completely normal. I felt so bad for the trail guide because he was really trying to get Rocko but it was to late-My grandmas horse started bolting. And of COURSE the trail horses are trained to follow the leader so my horse started galloping to. At first was TERRIFIED but something inside me felt like I was meant to do this for my whole life. The trail guide was a professional barrel racer so he started chasing after my grandma because she was actually sliding off the saddle and screaming. I was about 20 feet behind because I did the one-length rein stop and my horse slowed down to a canter. When we were about a quarter mile from the bridge I started to freak out because if we went across our horses might get hit by a car or buck. Luckily my grandma FINALLY pulled on the reins and she stopped. She ended up fracturing her knee because she was pressing so hard with her knees but she was ok.

We have a paddock that's right on the road, and at the end of that road, there's a showground, and when an event is on, people call them up to the fence to pat them

I have a farm with an on-farm shop. I cannot tell you how many times customers have let their kids do whatever they want while here. In their minds, no animal is off limits. I'm waiting for the day a kid grabs the electric fence. 😬

Years ago at the local fair there was an Eight Horse Hitch that would put on shows each day. They had their own portable tent/stall for people to walk through and see the horses. There was a sign that read:” please don’t feed fingers to horses.” You would think that people would know better than to try and pet an animal they were unfamiliar with, but you would be wrong…

Once, while walking my dog a gentleman asked if he could pet my dog. To which I said I'm sorry but no because she was in training at the time. To which he decided to pet her anyways!!! She urinates when given attention by strangers as she is a very submissive pup, too submissive. And I was trying to get her comfortable around strangers and new places. He completely ruined that outing. She peed all over the place and I was so dumb founded that he would pet someone dog after they said no!

i have a dog and a horse. my thought process is about keeping myself safe and being fair to the animal/owner. if i go up to a horse and it bites me hard, that sucks for me but also for the horse and its owners.
@EquineMetalhead20 сағат бұрын
This happens so often and it pisses me tf off. People will literally just come over to the pasture my equines (I have two mules and three horses) are in and pet them without even asking or considering, “is this animal friendly?” It really is appalling. Like, nobody’s gonna pet a strange dog they’ve never met before yet they’ll pet a strange horse. Not every horse is a kind horse.

I tried thinning shears but i am kind of a spaz, so it didn't really work for me. I can't bring myself to pull her mane, so I've scissored it. And yes, you can definitely tell I scissored it LOL Good thing horses don't laugh at each other for goofy haircuts. I hope.

Good rule of thumb I've learned, too. Don't approach a horse, or any animal for that matter. Let them approach YOU. And if or when they do approach you, let them smell you before you touch them.
@shellythom724822 сағат бұрын
Horses tend to be very skiddish when you sneak up on them or they dont see you Coming. So approaching a horse is very dangerous. If the horse don’t know you’re there with your small kid then it feels something on them or it’s now pink. Anyway I liked working.

Non-equestrians basically think in two ways: 1. "All horses are well-behaved and trustworthy" 2. "All horses are aggressive and dangerous"
