One thing that might not be done is the patting of the horse. They have a lot more nerves over their bodies, and it'll sting them. You can rub and scratch, and I feel that's the best way as she stated about giving rubs and scratch. Think about it just for a second; a horse can feel a FLY land on it, and it'll twitch the area where the fly landed to get it off of him/ her. So patting would sting unless it is so light of a pat it might not recognize that it did a really good thing .I just prefer to scratch and rub my horse. But this is only my opinion; I'm not trying to make anyone mad at me or attack me. I'm only stating what I feel is a job well done by the horse, and my horse isn't being stung like a bee, lol!!! Your videos are really informative. The one thing I had no clue about was the handling a stubborn horse. They do plant their feet much like a donkey and/ or mule lol, I just want sure how to get their feet moving again!

Thank you that was really interesting. A horse that I’m loaning is anxious and frustrated (I think)and when we were riding last she decided to start walking backwards down a narrow pathway. She reversed into a hedge and would not go forward. I had no room to circle her or attempt anything other than get off. I was wary of getting hurt. Also on the same path she once started trying to canter when it was very muddy. I told her to walk and she started to snort and toss her head. Again no space to do anything such as tight circle her. What would you suggest?

Super video mate! I've learned much straight away. I visit a horse who's owners neglect it and never ride or exercise her. It breaks my heart, she us beautiful regardless of neglect. I bring her an apple or carrot. I approach by letting myself be known, She teases me, comes to me, she wants to play with my hair, hand, she does a gentle nibble on my palm, I never allow just a finger near her mouth. She puts her head anywhere that I am, may it be lower or higher. Can you tell me, is this horse communicating pleasant or telling me to get her the bloody hell out of there. Thanks🤷🏻‍♀️

My Arab x gets anxious, frustrated and aggressive at the same time, I think it’s due to past experiences. What would you do with a mare like her? And hello from South Africa 🇿🇦 hope you reply. edit: what would you do with a horse who gets in your space when lunging and just in general as well, and throws a tantrum when you tell them to get out. (No this is not the same horse and no my horses aren’t as bad as they sound they just have their own problems like any horse)

Hey! My horse can be very stubborn, while doing groundwork it's fixable, but when I'm riding on her she can also be stubborn and just doesn't wanna move. How can I make sure she eventually starts walking again? (I kept fixing it by getting of off her and to start leading her, but I'm not sure if that's the right way). ❤ Your vids are very helpful and fun to watch! 🥰
@alseniodavis1588

It's not you're teaching your horse a bad habit By getting off... you should control her speed in a round pin or by lunging her. Once that's completed you should be able to control her speed in the saddle
@Its_Maartje
@Its_Maartje 2 жыл бұрын
@@alseniodavis1588 Thank you! 😁 I have to say though that it doesn't happen too often, and we mostly have nice "speeds" but sometimes when she's stubborn, it's very hard to get her moving again. It's not an underlying condition why she doesn't wanna move though! We already had her checked out by the vet for that. :)

Why don't you reward with food? I would just offer food 'agressive' horse something much more valuable than grain for letting me go near their bucket. This way horse knows that listening is more beneficial than protecting bucket. And you don't have to put any pressure.
@ghosttea2756

While that may be a good idea, it may not work with all horses. And giving too many treats/hand feeding too often can resort to biting issues.

@@ghosttea2756 How can it cause biting? If it did, R+ trainers wouldn't have fingers anymore
@ghosttea2756
@ghosttea2756 2 жыл бұрын
@@weronikamaecka340 It doesn’t always happen, though with some “foodie” and pushy horses it may happen- especially if that horse is prone to nipping anyhow.They expect a treat, and may harshly nudge or nip at your hand if you don’t have one. Especially if giving treats is something you do often, or after a certain thing. Say, you give your horse a treat every time after you ride, and one time you don’t. They’ll likely get upset. Me personally, I would give treats periodically, not consistently, just avoid it from happening all together. Like I said, it depends on the horse.
@weronikamaecka340
@weronikamaecka340 2 жыл бұрын
@@ghosttea2756 Firstly you have to teach the horse to take food gently. Also you don't just stop giving rewards out of nowhere, you can gradually give them rarely or for more advanced exercises. That way horse won't be frustrated
