Great job, ya’ll! I’ve been RV’ing for 4 years and every trip is an adventure and learning experience. Adding in the horses is quite the challenge! Our number 1 rule is - “Don’t arrive at camp hungry!” At a minimum eat a snack right before you pull in. Otherwise it’s too easy to make mistakes and/or get frustrated during setup. Take your time and enjoy the journey!

I always have the hay either in storage hay bags or wrapped in tarps in the trailer. Take a full first aid kit for both humans and equines. I never use to be able to sleep the first couple of nights but you'll get use to it eventually although those temporary hot wire corrals aren't as reliable as solid corrals. Alternatively you can put a bell on your horses and I have also used those camping light sticks tied on their blankets so I can see and hear them. I've been horse camping for 20+ yrs, just a few tricks I have learned.

Should you need extra storage, look at the storage pockets for horse showing that fasten to stall fronts / walls. We added 2 in our camper & used them for socks, slippers, underwear & hairbrushes, hand lotion, rolled t shirts, packable jackets, books, small games, yarn & knitting needles, etc. I second getting the Trip Wizard app. There's another similar, but I think Trip Wizard was better. Finally, if your awning has to be manually opened & shut.... be very careful about leaving it open at night or when you run to the store. We got to replace ours twice due to unexpected windstorms that literally ripped ours to shreds. You've got the horses that may not appreciate sudden scary flapping pieces of blowing canopy. Newer RVs have automatic awnings that retract when gusty winds hit, but not all RVs have that feature. My sister horsecamps with her friends. They bought zippered hay bale bags that are waterproof. If the bottom bale was bagged, it would keep liquids from wicking into all of the bales. Praying for you folks. TFS your adventures.

If you don’t know about RV Trip Wizard, I recommend checking it out (I’m not affiliated; just find it incredibly helpful!). You can use various filters to find places to stay, plan your route, see when you should plan to stop for gas, and best of all…. you can put in your trailer’s dimensions so that it will only take you on routes where your rig will fit so that you can avoid things like scary 1 lane bridges!

A little unsolicited advice, tying horses in the trailer is not safe. 1- they can balance themselves better with their head untied, 2- if you’re in wreck & they’re tied their necks snap.

You seem like nice people - you do- but really isn’t it time to grow up and assume adult responsibilities? Hate to break it to you but if you’re on “vacation” all the time that too will get old. The constant need for “adventure” and “stimulation” symbolizes something really big is missing in your lives. And without that you’ll never be truly happy. Ex. I’ll be happy if I move. I’ll be happy if I buy my own farm. I’ll be happy if I see my horses everyday. I’ll be happy if I travel the country. It’s a fool’s errand and your mother should have told you so. So since she didn’t - I’m telling you. Also why would you put your horses in harms way trailering them (which can be very stressful) just for clicks? Don’t you think they’d be much happier staying in one place?

Do you say the same to people who train and spend tons of money to climb Mount Everest? People should do as much of what brings them joy in life as they can. I totally gave up everything twice to do something others thought crazy. I have wonderful memories and zero regrets. What is right for you isn't right for everyone. Being able to travel and see the beauty of the country is a fantastic endeavor. They are young enough to pull this off and I say more power to them.

Trailering is very stressful for horses as is constantly being in a new environment. I am also objecting to this and am advocating for the welfare of the animals.

Instead of using their lives to improve the human condition, they selfishly followed their own dreams and left the grieving people that love them behind to pick up the pieces. Dreams that only satisfy you can turn into nightmares for those you love (including your animals).
