As a casual Steven Universe fan, I’m gonna explain some stuff. 1. Steven has healing spit, because his mom, Rose Quartz, had healing tears, and her ability was passed on to her son. This spit can heal both human and gem injuries. 2. Steven’s definitely has some form of PTSD from his crazy childhood of fighting extremely dangerous enemies like the Diamonds, who are basically the strongest of all gems. 3. Those ‘patients’ are definitely not human. They are gems who have been fused together into these masses of arms and anger. And that’s all. If you guys wanna add anything else, feel free to tell me in the comments.

Actually Steven went a heck of a lot in a short amount of time roughly one year in their time. He was forced into fights constantly sometimes landing on his head which his healing powers took care of. He faced the worst in the universe. He faced the four rulers of a planet of sentient gemstones and nearly died as a result but came back. He faced enemies of his mother. He went through a lot and many in the fan community believe he had a form of PTSD just trying to keep everything how he believed it should be. PTSD can manifest physically like that with spikes in blood pressure and nervousness along with an inability to comprehend a situation. The doctor here is trying her best but it’s really to Steven to work it out himself which he does eventually do but not before fully breaking down and nearly destroying the city. He drives out to find himself and just figure something out. It’s something people do and it does work.

@Fire_Crest_97 He's Fe dom and he doesn't need that. He needs a future (Ne/Ni) advice and objective logic (Te), Pearl and Saphire are his best advisers (coz Garnet stuck in some Ni-Ti loop or smth).
Fun Fact: During the montage of Steven going through numerous medical tests, theres a wipe that uses a clip board. If you pause at the right time, you can see it, and read that it's actually a medical record of Steven's! Some main takeaways ive gathered from it were- • Steven's birthday is August 15th, his height is 5ft 6in, and his weight is 145 lbs. He may look chubby, but he actually has a healthy weight by BMI standards. • Steven is noted to have "mixed" heartbeat, indicating arrhythmia. Also, if you listen closely to when Dr. Maheshwaren listened to his heart with a stethoscope, you'd hear that it isn't a healthy heartbeat. This perfectly falls in line with why he's prone to fainting, especially the clip you've covered. • His bones are noted as "irregular", perhaps referring to the numerous healed breaks and fractures.

Steven had severe PTSD alongside some identity issues and the fact his personality is one part human nurturing and one part a Gem's OS (he is a Diamond *spoiler* so feels that he must be needed), however he grew up the equivalent to a child soldier whose mother was raised on a pedestal by her "followers/friends" as this perfect individual (however she had lied to MOST of these individuals about her identity) so Steven aside from the constant battles against "monsters" and enemy soldiers against the rebel Gems his mother founded, he also had to deal with the gradual reveal that his mother was not only perfect but had started out a horrible person (a brilliant reverse character development reveal where the audience too fell into the same mental trap as Steven thinking she was really awful because we went from the most recent era where she is trying to be a better person to the distant past where she was a spoiled brat tyrant. Add that he is sort of the reincarnation of his own mother *think of a Gem as a CPU, and like a CPU it is hard to wipe all the memory. So she reformatted herself back to "factory settings* while also fusing her Gem with human DNA to make Steven. So Steven got bits of her personality along with growing and learning...and also a few left over memories that would surface under specific conditions causing Steven to wander *and despite his claims at the end of the fifth season, he clearly never got over* if he was just his mother and if over time more of her memories might have surfaced till he got them all plus his own becoming her reborn but changed...the show never went that far, but this identify issue was there and the association of the Diamonds as the big bads despite later them wanting to embrace him as family and yeah...this is just the tip of a summary, sufice it to say...Steven's got issues. So much so that even at series end he is still working through them (a nice realistic ending to the child growing up with magical battles type of series where he has on-going therapy sessions).

yup, also importantly, the gems bodies are just the product of solid vision or hard light, holograms supported by force fields projected by the gemstones. So the sword isnt necessarily sharp enough to cut through a live human in one swing, it was designed to specifically cut through hard light constructs, "but never the gem". it also has shown to be capable of deflecting energy-projectiles from a "robot shooty thing", possibly for the same reason its effective against hard light.

Just for context for the scene of Steven with the Doctor: That's the final season of the show, which is an Epilogue season. For most of the series Steven was a 13-14 year old boy (one episode is his birthday) whose daily life was dealing with world-threatening aliens often paired with emotional trauma related to his family. In that scene he's a 16 year old who is now living through peace times, yet he already spent his puberty in a constant state of alert, plus he has a few hundred cases of fish out of water aliens that can cause trouble he has to deal with. So yes, it definitely is stress, but also stress is the mother of all understatements.
@sketchnotes22463 жыл бұрын
So here's a quick lowdown on gem anatomy: Gem's bodies are made of light and can be "poofed" back into their gemstones if severely injured. This allows them to reset their bodies and re emerge fully healed (unless you put the gem in a bubble, thus making it impossible for them to re emerge) They don't have heartbeats (hence why the doctor couldn't hear it) If a gem's gem is cracked, their bodies start doing all sorts of weird stuff (like with the Rubies in the first clip) Shattering is the equivalent of death. And finally, those creatures you saw earlier were the remains of shattered gems forced to fuse together into one horrifying Frankenstein type creature. Oh, and Steven has healing spit. His mom had healing tears, he has healing spit. Go figure. Hope that helps with some of the more confusing bits.

I know a lot of people already commented about the Gem Mutants, but i wanna write one too. They're gem shards fused together (sort of tests for something called the Cluster. A massive geoweapon made of gemshards). Most of these gem shards are from the war, which is basically re-using corpses. The gem shards are from shattered gems. Shattered gems are considered dead, because they can't fully form a body (made of light which is why they don't have a pulse) anymore. However, they still have a conscience (English ain't my first language) that is very basic and scattered across the shards. Basically their only goal, their only thought, is to find their other pieces and form. That's why gem mutants are a mess of limbs and other things. It's shards that have the information for a specific limb/etc mixed together, nothing fits. My guess on why they are so aggressive, is because of their messed up mind. Again, they are conscious, they can think (as seen with the cluster) and with that they have a lot of voices in one head. Also, why they are so easily defeated by the sword (apart from it being made to poof a gem [destroy their physical form] without problem), is again, the form is made of light. When it becomes unstable, they poof and return to their gem to recharge.

It's worth to note that Gems don't have a skeleton (at 3:21 you can see a quick glimpse of the X-Ray Dr. Maheswaran took of Amethyst, you can see nothing but her actual gem and the things she ate; normally Gems don't even have any organs, their bodys are basically made out of dense light coming from their gems, but they can shapeshift and thus also create a digestive tract if they want to) This explains why the sword goes through the Gem-'patients' so easily without getting stopped by any bones

doctor er, i love your videos so much, and i'm a big fan of steven universe, it's a sad thing is that this show needs a lot of context to get most of the scenes, still you can do a awesome job teaching medical stuff about it, i know how difficult would be to you watch every show that you react to, but i really hope someday in the future you can find time to do it because it's a amazing show, really, and that's a lot of medical scenes and injuries that i can think of, but most of them aren't suitable of a video so it's difficult to indicate as well, maybe you could make a video with requested medical scenes of many shows, there some i can think of that i would love to see - total drama definitely deserves a video, lot's of medical and injuries scenes - the captain america the winter soldier scene that fury fake the own death by using a serum that supposedly would have slowed down his heartbeat so hydra would think that he was dead, i think i saw similar things in many others shows and would love to know if exists something similar in reality - the movie "lucy" have a lot of interesting things who would be interesting to know about, like the scenes that she was cut to carry the drugs inside her body, or when goes wrong and the drug case open and get in touch with her, if something like that happened with a real drug, or substance, what could happen? - some episodes of love death and robots, like "helping hand" scene, that she breaks her frozen arm, "the drowned gigant" it's pretty interesting too - cells at work! is a awesome anime to you react, it's everything about the human body and blood, veins, the immune system. - some scenes of my hero academia, like when recovery girl heal deku for the first time, and she explain that her power makes the person use more of his own energy to heal faster, or the scene that shemage creates mushrooms inside tokoyami's lungs, what would happened to a person in this case, aizawa explaining how quirks work and how they can grow with the person that owns the quirk, also in the nomu, that is a human modified and have the own brain out the skull, someone could live with the brain exposed? love your work! sorry for the long comment and sorry if i wrote something wrong, english isn't my main language..

most of the characters are called gems they are basically alien gemstones with light body but the bodys can have mass you can destroy their bodies as many times as you want but as long as the gem stone is ok like the red character in the beginning who was healed with the spit that cracked thing that is that gems real form. those thing in the hospital are shards of gems that was destroyed but then forced to fuse together is horrible ways think frankinstein without knowing what part your gonna get

Hey Dr Wagner! Love your content! I have gone to the er for a serious asthma exacerbation recently And I noted all while trying not to get lightheaded while leaning forward from breathing so hard and that the er docs were busy like crazy. I get that it was busy but I was shocked at how long it took to see patients that night...for myself it was terrifying knowing I couldn't breathe well. Dr Wagner, is that common where you work and if so, at what times does it happen? Btw Im feeling much better if u want to know.

interesting, Apparently Dr Wagner doesn't see people cut cleanly in half arriving at the hospital... i mean one would presume that if that was to happen it's not like you can just staple them back together lol

You can still check temperature though the ear like that Steven hasn’t got any of those things it more to due with his gem half and stress I remember someone saying that during the checkup it seems Steven powers react to pressure like self defence like for example when she was checking his blood pressure and his knees ( don’t know what that called checking your Reflexes? ) and yep if you passed out it not a good idea to get up that quickly

Take a look at some injuries from My Hero Academia, particularly the injuries suffered by the show's protagonist, Izuku Midoriya.

So, Stevens swelling was because of horrible trauma he experienced throughout 5 seasons for us. Most happened when he was 14, he was kidnapped, almost fell to his death, had to answer for his moms war crimes, put on trial for those war crimes and way way more. He has been through way too much trauma and does not know how to handle it. That doctor episode where he was the patient was his first time actually properly going to a hospital, my man Steven has it rough.

REAL!!! And I'd be fine with the fact that it ended if he got the help that he needed, but he never did. He just moved away to be alone which I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do at the age of 17 because you're a minor (another great parenting moment from the most neglectful dad ever, greg)
