Bump pin as presented by Dev - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGe6dJhjab2EabM

Thank you! I thought it was anti bump! Though I suspect it can also work as an anti over lift pin too as a few people have said :-)

I really get what ERA were thinking when I made this, but I also understand why it didn’t really catch on. Great fun pick though and a very well made lock all in all :-)
@forric235 жыл бұрын
Agreed its not a very popular lock with locksmiths simply because its incompatible with standard euro profile lock cases and handles. But 10 out of 10 for being a pain in the neck. Which is what I think they were going for if a rogue is walking around with a euro snapper he ain't snapping that profile lol 😂
@forric235 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why you pick it upside down as this isn't how you will find them installed in a door. IMHO picking them the right way up is a totally different experience.
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
Sure. But I’m a hobby picker and I pick locks in my study, not in the cold and rain with a locked out bunch of crying children and stressed parents looking over my shoulder, so the whole setup is unrealistic. I pick euros both ways, but I prefer pins up :-)

Fascinating. Now I finally know what those weird discs are in my gutting kit. They're segmented followers. I can see how they'd be useful if you can't remove the internal side core and cam to pass a normal follower through, but I could see myself having gaps appear between adjacent mini followers & having driver pins jumping out all over the place. Even though I doubt I'll ever use them, it's nice to have a piece of the puzzle solved. Segmented followers.

That's a a behemoth of a lock. Good job picking and gutting. Perhaps it was made to spec for new housing estates or apartment blocks, where the doors were pre-made to accommodate them. In that case, the after market sales would be guaranteed to the new homes over the years. I'm thinking of new housing in crime prone areas, hence the beefed up construction and anti-everything tech. Oh, and it might also explain why it has master wafers, too. 🤔 Anyway, I love the brushed finish on it. 👍

I like your thinking, very possibly you’re right :-)
@roysammons24455 жыл бұрын
A few people here have commented the same as I was thinking. That the unusual pin and spring could be to stop you using a comb pick. Having said that the warding looks like it might do a good job to stop a comb pick attack. Fantastically picked and gutted. I have used those segment followers a few times and its a real pain when gutting.
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
It could be anti lift, but the warding would do that job. Possibly though :-)
@MelvinTheGrate5 жыл бұрын
That pin extending up into the spring is an anti-comb feature, ensuring that the whole pin stack can't be pushed above the shear line.
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
Could be, but the warding is too tight for most overlifting techniques I feel kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGe6dJhjab2EabM

Good luck with putting that fiddley lock back together. I held my breath as you come to the end of the gutting. Definitely that profile would cost to much for the customer to change so that wouldn't really take off! Nice video..
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
It was horrible to put back together, but I did it :-)

These cylinders aren't very common as they require a non standard handle and non standard MPL (the actual locking mechanism and strip which fits inside the door). An interesting cylinder very well picked!

Quite an unusual lock, I would have bet this lock will not sell widely. Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed the picking.

It didn't. It is now obsolete. Which makes things awkward for the customer wanting a thumbturn set for his door!

Yeah, it was a poor gamble by ERA. I still like it as a collectible though :-)

Those segmented followers are ok with 5 pin locks, but they come in sets of 3, as you say, 4 would be handy for bigger euro cylinders. That lock was beaten with an ugly stick though lol. Good pick. :-)
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
I think it’s cute, lol :-)

Very cool reach back in time. Obviously made to combat snapping profile cylinders. It is also obvious that they didn't want their lock to be a replacement but a whole new purchase. But with the vast majority of locks being of the same profile there are replacement cores that take and beat the challenge of snapping. Thanks for sharing bro, great info!!!

Had to remove on of these of a holiday cottage (belonging to my employer!) today and found the only way past the hardened steel anti-drill protection (in both barrel and body) was to use a small oxy-gas torch on the barrel having drilled it out as far as the steel protection plate. Once past this I drilled out all the tumblers to release the barrel. I'd normally drill just below the barrel with a 7mm drill such that the top of the drilled hole just meets the barrel (in the usual way).

0.5 inch magnets would probably make good improvised segmented plug followers, or good extenders when you don't have enough length. Or half inch thick dowels if you cut them at a true 90 degrees. Or LOTS of washers, lol. This of course assumes a cylinder diameter of .5" or .498", unsure if this is the case with Euro locks. Where do you get your segmented followers? I've never run across the need for them, so never sought them out. Nice video, and nice job on the lock.
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, washers is a good idea, I like that :-)

That long pin is an anti comb pick /overlift measure

My new built house in UK came with those. Are they actually secure from your perspective? The way you said they seemed an old design, but I don’t know much about lockers, just wondering if I should invest in the door hardware to change it all for a standard eurocylinder

Absolutely hate these locks,they only fit into era lock mechanisms which will obviously break because the are crap. You turned up on site to failed mech and either have to strip and rebuild the mechanism with parts from standard gearbox (because nobody carries these),or change handle gearbox and cylinder.
