The gears on that cylinder are out of time. The cams should be one behind the other. This is not designed for both keys to operate at the same time. What the key fits into is called a plug. A core is an interchangeable core that pulls out in it’s entirety with a special key. I’ve been doing this for almost 40 years. What would help you understand what you’re looking at would be a locksmith correspondence course that includes materials for projects that you complete and return for grading. I can suggest one for you if you’d like. I realize you’re across the pond but in most places possession of the picking tools is a crime. If you can, contact me and maybe I can explain things better. Tont

When I interviewed at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. many years ago, those cylinders were on all the doors. They were a method of master keying, absolutely not dual custody, and either key could operate the lock. I believe this cylinder is the same way, and either tailpiece can be turned independently.

That would have been quite an expensive lock, with over 50 parts, including keys and fittings, and probably not very many sold. Nicely picked, Ash! Thanks.

Old Yale used partially compensated drivers so short key pins get long drivers and the reverse also. The sixth pin in the lower had a long key pin with a long driver. I would suspect this key was changed by somebody following out the plug and changing only the key pins. This has the effect of over-compressing the spring. (It can trap the key as the driver has no way to travel up enough but then the person doing it would have to correct the problem.) And it was redone in bad ways given that flat filed top of the plug. Only ones I saw in function were not dual custody but rather part of the master key tree. Different gear system on back. One plug was not mastered and was a controlled high level key. The other plug was and has area masters and change keys.

A crazy Yale lock with what almost looks like cheap Chinese pins. The keyway certainly doesn't look like it's a Yale. Well done on the open, two opens for the price of one.

nice lock and picking, That lock may be for a hotel room type one for renter one for housekeeping / Managment Have a great day Also can you show a good picture of the keyways on either channel? It's probably to late , but if you repin it with 0 cut pins it will be easy to disassemble, insert blank key or flat pick

Neat lock! I imagine the extra plate on the back is to stop the key, with or without the tailpiece. Strange that the sixth driver pin is longer than the other five yet not above the shortest key pin.

A wonderful lock!!!! I have that model and it has keys. The bottom lock key has PF stamped on it and the top lock has SE stamped on it. That would be the key ways. Can’t remember if mine had spools in it or not🧐 I have an older version of this with the older Yale logo as well. Same key way stamps on them. You should be able to get those keys and pin up😃 For the really rare locks fans there is a old padlock version of these . All super cool for the collection!! Have posted all mine on my channel. Can’t remember the video numbers?? But can find if there is interest. Stay safe my friend 🐾🐈🐈⬛🐾😷🇬🇧👏👏👏👏👏👏

No this isn't dual control. One of the tailpieces rotate with one of the cylinder, and the other tailpiece rotates with the other cylinder. Meaning this is a way of having 2 keys (one "apartment key" and one "master key") independently operate the lock. It usually also comes with a faceplate that is rotatable, so the renter's lock would be on the bottom and always visible, when landlord wants to come in, he would rotate the faceplate 180 degrees. HOWEVER! Such locks require the right mortise lock to work correctly. Some mortise locks DO connect the cylinder actuator to the bolt itself, then this lock will become a dual custody lock. The right type of mortise locks this is made for, is those locks that have a locking mechanism (bar, lever etc) which the actuator only moves or touches to release the lock. This means either actuator can trigger the lock, thus becoming a independently keyed lock. Also the reason one of the actuators are turned, is to prevent the renter from removing the lock without having the landlord's key, so the renter couldn't deny his landlord access. You couldn't however turn it 90 degrees, because some locks have their trigger mechanism at 90 degrees.
