Eradicating the Remaining 20% of Doubts | Analogy of photographer : photo :: awareness : perceptions

In the analogies, the latter cannot tell us anything about the former i.e., just as a photo tells us nothing about the body temperature or eye color of the photographer, so too perceptions tell us nothing and will never be able to tell us anything about awareness.
Though this dialogue begins at the conceptual level to clarify a partial versus liberating glimpse, Francis swiftly takes the questioner to the experiential level in a Socratic-style direct investigation of the nature of awareness.
0:00 What is the difference between a partial and final glimpse?
2:52 Are there still questions after a liberating glimpse?
3:03 Socratic style inquiry
5:34 Very important to investigate the remaining 20% of doubts
7:14 Analogies - photographer, photo, piano
12:20 The finger is not the moon, to use a Buddhist analogy
13:00 Don't go on a tangent!
16:12 One more analogy - table and wood

Everything in our experience- everything that could be felt, sensed, perceived, and any thought that could appear in the mind are made out of or made from awareness like the table is made out of wood. Sensation, perception, and thought are the creations of consciousness like the photo is the creation of the photographer. Who we are, consciousness, is the only thing in experience that is not created. Consciousness does not share the limits with all creation, meaning that all things are limited to their form (the table has four legs) they all have tangibility and are perceivable (like the image printed on the photograph). Consciousness has no such limits or any tangibility and is imperceivable meaning it cannot be known as we know or see something manifested in creation (the table and photo). It reminds me of the whole idea of the Holy Ghost. That which knows this experience is an imperceivable ungraspable non-objective presence.

Wow this was so experiential. I just followed along Francis’ questions and general line of inquiry within myself, and it was quite revelatory. Great metaphors too, that facilitated my understanding beyond the merely intellectual (and I do like to run circles in the mind) but to be honest, not sure I’ve eradicated all doubts… definitely less than before but still…hmm He’s a bit of a hard@ss too! Not letting mind go off in a different direction. This guy blocks all the escape routes that Ignorance likes to use. Damn (but in a good way!)

In my experience, he is pointing to this silent still looking with no knowing and no one behind it. From here you can only rest and be taken, no effort will do it here, no thought, no movement

Ya not sure why there seems to be controversy around not answering the questioner’s question. Francis does his best to use reason and various metaphors to dispel the doubt around an intellectual belief that was being stubbornly held onto. The key to me seems to be, for those watching, where does it lead you? Whether or not the questioner got it and was left in not knowing, only she can say. But more importantly, its a great convo for us to check and see if we ourselves are still holding onto any beliefs of the same kind she is. It was a useful sorta mirroring exercise for me. Just my 2 cents.

That is the question, I know I am not the content of my experience, but the experiece is perceives by the knower of it. but it seems untochble, unseeble, unreachable, nothing. Noless we disappear soon or later so who give me the certainty i am infinite counscousness????? can you help me?

everything we experience phenomenally is what awareness has said "yes" to, so it is focused on everything via individual minds but from its absolute stance is unfocused on objects

If the contents of awareness can show nothing valid about awareness itself, then how can one ever be certain awareness is not limited? How can one experience awareness itself? By musing on it as if it were a koan? Contemplating it? Keeping the desire to experience it continually cycling through the mind? Giving up the desire? By practicing doing nothing in silence? By listening to someone answering questions about it? By reading what Ramana, Nisargadatta or Krishna Menon had to say about it. Self inquiry? Looking at the I thought? Practicing Qi Gong?

by experiencing it directly. you seem to know that simply reading someone else's book or doing some activity will not exactly do the trick, so to speak, but the words or certain yogas can lead to the direct experience.

Evidence that awareness is limited?.One Evidence could be that I am not aware of the other person's thoughts.
@justbreakingballs
@justbreakingballs 2 жыл бұрын
Isnt awareness limited by the hardware it's running? Like the eye can't see very far, ears can't hear everything just what's close enough. If the head is struck the brain shuts down and awareness is lost. I'm not aware when I'm knocked out. Isnt that a limitation? It's this that makes the feeling awareness is generated by the body and will indeed die if the body dies and all biology ended with say a meteor strike. Can anyone explain this?
@bradowens5545
@bradowens5545 2 жыл бұрын
Limitations of the mind don’t imply limitations of that which perceives the mind. You don’t use your physical eyes to see subtle objects like thoughts or memories, for example, and there’s no evidence that that which sees these subtle objects will die in a meteor strike. Ultimately, you have to go to your experience of consciousness to confirm what I posit. In the meantime, you say it’s a “feeling” that awareness is generated by the body. You gotta check whatever you call a feeling out. Is it reliable? Is it even real?

He says that u need to be liberated from the belief that awareness is limited. But Francis is not liberated from the belief that awareness is unlimited. Both are beliefs, and both are unnecessary
@sevaad

Nope, it is not that. It is just when you explore boundaries of you, you find none. This reaslizations doesn't lead to new belief but just leave you without previous one. You're more clear about experience and thats it.

Total fail on his part! He did not, could not answer her question! Awareness is NOT aware of itself.

The answer is an experience or understanding the questioner has to have themselves. All teachers can only point to the experience with words, metaphors, others tools.

@@awakenotwoke7949 I thought he said that it's only consciousness that can reveal the true nature of consciousness. That objects appearing in consciousness, although they are made of consciousness, tell us nothing about the nature of consciousness. I'm not sure what's non dual pyscho babble about that. It's seems very clear to me. I trust that the participant will watch the video and it will become clear to her as well.

@@MegaUpstairs The only thing you actually "know" about your experience is your perception of it. IN the end You can never know yourself. You can only know what you are not.
