It's a weird thing to say, but seeing the movie and reading the books afterwards as a teenager, I had some weird sort of a crush on Saphira(as a grown dragon, of course). In books she is super sassy and funny at times, and her character is so much more developed! Makes you appreciate the baby Saphira even more. It's the cutest thing ever shown on screen in history of the fantasy genre.

Arya had black hair, she never knew saphira had hatched, eragon had dark hair, never gave saphira milk, wasn't in the barn with saphira, and his palm was silver not burned. All they got is that saphira is adorable as a baby.... And I just spent the last 5 days rereading all of the eragon books don't argue with me. XD

So that it worked and become popular among those who had read the books. Reading eragon then watching this movie are night and day. They didn't make it with a care for the actual book.(looks like a quick money grab) Needs a reboot so someone who enjoyed the book can also enjoy the movie.

They made Saphira's design like that for the purpose of realism(and to break stereotypes that not all dragons are all scales), plus, she's built solely for speed, that's why her wings are massive and are feathered. Basically, Saphira is the only one best appreciated in the movie, while the rest..... Yeah.

The only thing that bugs me about this particular scene is how stupid they make Eragon look. It's so painfully obvious it's a dragon, and in the book he knows right away. He doesn't try to give Saphira milk either, he knows straight away she eats meat.

This movie would’ve done so much better if it weren’t based off of a book. I know that “the books are better” but that doesn’t ignore how amazing the movie is by itself. The CGI is on point, Sapphira is one of the most realistic CGI dragons I’ve seen (and recall that this was in 2006). On top of that, the acting is pretty good. Imagine not knowing what a dragon was and being raised on a farm; what do most animals eat as babies? Milk. (Yes, there are birds that drink “milk,” and she is very bird-like in appearance.) Too bad this movie receives so much hate, because it would’ve been great if there were sequels. Also, before you tell me “oh but it’s nothing like the boooooks.” The “How to Train Your Dragon” movie is NOTHING like the books, yet it probably gained more popularity than the book series it was based on. (I love httyd, I’m just using it as an example, no hate)

The thing is HTTYD didn’t try to follow the books, it took the characters, setting, and some themes, so all the differences felt intentional. While this movie felt more the M. Night Shyamalan’s Avatar. Like someone looked at the source material and tried to follow along but kept missing. Plus Book Arya is one of the coolest most badass characters and Book Eragon is a bit naïve but works hard and pulls through exceptionally well, while Movie Arya is just a pretty damsel in distress and Movie Eragon is a whimsical, oblivious bonehead.

Tbh, as a fan of the Inheritance Cycle, I actually don't think they did a bad job with designing Saphira. I like her overall appearance and I'd have liked to have seen the rest of the dragons n this style. The only thing that threw me off was why she had feathers?? She's not a bird, she's a dragon

The movie was not accurate to the book at all. However, the casting and animation was spectacular. Everything about this movie was great except for the script. It needed to match with the books (though obviously they couldn’t copy everything from the books or the movie would’ve been hours long). The issue is that this series could have become (imo) what the Hunger Games tried to do. It could have easily been better than any other book to movie adaptation ever made (aside from Harry Potter because let’s face it... it’s HP)

Lord of the rings made it work where it didn't hurt the movie. So did Harry Potter. All which have a ton more to them than eragon. They could have not been lazy and made some great movies. You know, it's weird, I was obsessed with the book series before I saw the movie, but I still adored the movie and would rewatch it over and over as a child. When I was 10 it was the coolest thing in the world to see Eragon live action. I know it's a poor adaptation, but the performances lend it an amazing amount of charm. I never read any of the books so when I saw this film when I was 4 or 5 years old at the movie theater I absolutely loved it. I’m officially over 20 years old now and til this day I still loved this movie. Considering the cgi is absolutely phenomenal for a 2006 film and til this day still holds up is incredible. Still haven’t read any of the books and honestly I don’t see myself reading them anytime soon. Definitely will give them a chance before I die.
