My kid got a hand me down mac book from her aunt and she said she didn’t want it because she has her iPad and her school computer, so when we got the mac from my aunt they had my kids info set up already. But dads gonna use it now and I didn’t have a clue on how to reboot the system so I can just have my settings! This helped with ease! Best video I’ve seen

My friends MacBook Pro had issues after updating Ventura and he wiped out the Mac OS installed with Ubuntu and didn’t set the disk to GPT partitioning and the restore or reinstall of the Original Mac OS installed didn’t work. So I managed to reset the GPT partitioning from recovery terminal. Now I’m installing Sonoma after doing the Shift-Option-R power on.

If I did a factory reset would I lose programs like Word? Acquired another iMac from a deceased aunt. So need to get around Apple ID and iTunes and other things. What would be the best way to go about this without messing things up? Or should I just call Apple and have then advise? It's a 2008 iMac desktop 27".Thanks.

A factory reset, would delete all of the software loaded. If you have the password to get into the Mac itself, you could set up a new account for the Mac for yourself through Users & Groups in the System Preferences. The you can enter your own Apple ID when using that account. You can also delete your Aunt's account from there when you're ready.

I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation". Changed the date and time still nothing. So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
