Bless you sir you were the only person whose video I watched who specifically said not to mess with the macOS base , I almost deleted it and messed up my computer , I was having trouble redownloading macOS Catalina because there was no disk ; I did not realize I needed to completely wipe the data on the HD disk and not mess with the MacOS base . Then hold Command and R. While you’re holding Command and R don’t let go of the Power Button and Command and R until you see a different screen. You should get the Recovery Screen now. If you didn’t get the Recovery Screen then press Option and you’re good to go :)

I followed your directions and everything was going well until the 10:23 mark. When I erased Machintosh HD - Data, the Machintosh HD on top of it turned into "APPLE SSD Media" and Machintosh HD - Data turned into Container disk3. Furthermore, when I try to install the OS (the following step) I'm asked to select a disk for the install but there are none to choose from. Any idea how I can fix this?

Because when I tried to later update the software (when it says macOS Big Sur) there was no Macintosh HD disk to click. Hi. I did a factory reset on my MacBook Pro 2016, without having a password which I forgot it and mobile No. for security was a prepaid one and I do not have it any more. So after hold command and R keys , I was able to reach the Utility Recovery and I did select Macintosh HD and erase. Concerning my data I am interested but the issue that I did follow most of the instructions of Apple world but still Macintosh HD not mount. Edit: for M1, there will be an error in creating account / password in the setup. You have to factory reset twice by resetting the password via terminal on the second time. All of the references I’ve read only says delete the startup disk. The deletion of Data volume is a crucial part that they do not include on their articles. Even Apple’s support page is silent about what volumes to erase. Thanks to you man!

@@asskicker6200 steps to follow: shut down your computer remove the computer from any iCloud accounts (thanks for the edit, @abbaf33f) hold the power button until the "options" icon shows select the "options" icon when next screen loads, select menu item to launch terminal in terminal type "resetpassword" and hit enter when a reset password box appears, reveal a new menu by clicking somewhere off to the side of the reset password box (thanks for the edit, @brendan-duke!) select "Recovery Utilities" then "erase Mac"; in new pop up confirm option to erase Mac once erased, exit back to recover reinstall the operating system once installed, create the account. These are the steps that I followed when I got stuck on password error during setup after first reset. The second reset by following the steps above resulted to successful setup.

Deletting all the data that there is in the macintosh hd, which includes the personal files, programs and also the drivers i suppose, would’nt create any problem when at the beginning of the new installation of the macos the system asks for you to be connected to the internet? Wouldn’t in this case be necessary the wifi card drivers that you already deleted with all the rest, in order to connect to the internet? Same question if you would try to connect to the internet through ethernet?
